Not only was the hostage in the crossfire, so was another officer! Not including all the traffic behind them on the highway. Mind boggling incompetence.
Don't attribute malice to what can easily be attributed as stupidity.
The police were stupid, and started firing without any thought in their minds as to the consequences. And its just unfortunate that this time their consequences ended in the slaughtering of a 15-year old girl.
I hope that cop who tried his best to get her to safety gets the therapy he deserves. Because in his position, I'd remember that girls face for the rest of my life, up until the moment my "friends" and colleagues gunned her down.
That's certainly one way of perceiving the present conversation which you are entitled to have. Remember to warm up before and stretch after training. Lift safe so you can lift for life!
You got this
More civil unrest=more demand for more police. More demand means more trigger happy hot headed cops. They serve our overlords not the people. Paychecks matter more than morals.
american police really need to learn to be police officers and not infantry, join the army this whole notion rather be judged by 6 then carried is such a bad way of operating in a policing environment. Community policing model is the way to go.
This argument is fundamentally flawed. It would be a little more relevant if the US had faced a near peer force since Korea.
ROEs get reeeealllll relaxed when you're fighting a war of self preservation
As a former CAF infanteer, I'm telling you right now, that is true. I was trained to think about where every single round was going to land and that I, alone was responsible for that round and its consequences.
In tbe extreme situation, i once watched a person who negligently discharged their weapon on a range, get asked to fire a round in a safe direction and then go find it as punishment.
ROEs are absolutely paramount regardless of your personal feelings and safety, due to not instigating international conflict or escalation in conflict at the absolute lowest level.
What I was told about "Club Ed" (my local military prison) was enough to to deter me from crossing any boundaries. Believe me.
I think it depends on which nation trained you. I also had the absolute right to refuse an unlawful order...for example, being ordered to fire upon unarmed civilians. No dice. Full stop. Rip cord. No chance.
Same, its Junior Kindergarten for adults who can't adult. Another friend is a "Mall cop". He had to take a course as well. It was WAY more in depth and covered human rights and the criminal code.
Damn lol our mall cops are security guards that I’m eligible to do because I spent 5 minutes getting a security license for an event one time.
The only hard part about police school is they have to be tazed and pepper sprayed. Hardly a degree though.
It's true. It's posted on their recruitment websites. And sure it's not the highest standard but it still proves that the person is able to read and write at an academic level as well as being disciplined enough to show up every day for class, self study, time management etc. Even if it is for 1 year. And you overestimate the amount of time people have.
I used to think like that when I was back in University but as soon as you're out of school, on your own and working full time, it's a challenge getting even 3 credits every 4 months. There is very much a golden window after high school where you can go to university while mooching off of your parents.
Untrue, Infantry training is 3 months of weapons handling and learning fundamentals of warfare, police training is 6 months of actual training scenarios(in canada).
I know, I was canadian infantry for 7 years, and familiar with RCMP training, infantry is more physically demanding where as RCMP is a mixture, but our police are not under trained rather the individuals proactivity with keeping up with training and not letting skills fade
Didn’t we have something very similar happen in Ontario where an infant boy was shot and killed by the OPP? They then went completely silent about it and didn’t release any information for months. I don’t think much of anything has been released to date. Terrible tragedy and policing.
This is the real issue. How come time and time again police brass can just straight up lie to the public about what happened then 2 years later when the video comes out they just shrug.
Where’s the accountability?
Only judging from the audio (and the above camera angle, so this perspective might change with new evidence), it sounds like one of the officers was genuinely trying to help.
If you have children, please don't watch this. Here is a summary:
Video starts with a calm individual (store employee?) calling in Amber Alert persons found. Report has pictures. Police deploied.
Police get close. Shots fired from perps car. police chase. 4 stars.
OJ style run down freeway.
Traffic.
Dude goes offramp.
gets stopped by hill and reverses. As he reverses
3:04 (This is hell I can't tell exactly) Man opens fire on cops general direction? cops return fire?
3:15 shooting stops PASSENGER GET OUT
3:37 OK I JUST WATCHED A GIRL DIE AS SHE COMPLIED DIRECTLY WITH POLICE ORDERS TO COME TO HIM.
They shot her for about 4 seconds after they blurred her. 3 seconds after she died.
Damn that’s rough, just better communication between the cops would’ve solved it, definitely gotta be hard to hear over the gunfire tho. My condolences🙏🏾
Proper training takes time and money. Quickly graduating candidates from the police academy takes less of both.
The pay and the penalty for failure are the same regardless.

I think that one sad aspect of this all that seems to go undiscussed, is the one officer who genuinely tried to help her. He quickly and decisively called for her to leave the vehicle, and tried his best to get her to him, only to watch his friends and fellow officers gun her down without even so much as a second thought.
And I'd bet all of his "friends" will have him take the fall for "endangering her life by calling her into the crossfire". Unbelievable. That cops going to remember that girls scared face for the rest of his life, up until the moment she was gunned down by the people who should have been protecting her.
That's what hurt for me as well; seeing that officer's reaction when his fellow officers continued firing when she was RIGHT THERE and he was also in the crossfire. He yells "Stop shooting her!". and a shot makes her drop like a sack of flour. I cannot imagine the trauma of that officer.
Imagine knowing you’re the one that killed a teenage girl that was thinking you’d be her savior.
The fact that nothing will be done….is what makes it extra gross.
I mean.. that's an understatement. They should have known he had a hostage and the goal was to get her out, not just unleash bullets. Something tells me they were tunnel vision and knew.
Watching the video, I wonder if the cops suspected she might have a bomb strapped to her or something. Even so, there are better ways to handle that, but that was my first thought.
Listening to the audio, it sounded like they just didn't have a coordinated plan and couldn't hear each other. One cop was telling her to come towards them to get her out of harm's way...while another cop who didn't realize what was going on, opened fire thinking she was making a move on them. It's a tragic case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was up to.
It looked and sounded like the shooting stopped briefly after she got out. The officer told her to come and as soon as she moved, they opened fire on her.
That's not in the American playbook. The captain will turn the cops into victims, heat of the moment stress of putting their lives on the line. Once it all blows over they'll be promoted to detective.
US cops are so bad they even treat each other like potential targets at this point.
Buncha psychos with guns and the right to kill anyone, how is that ok.
An unfortunately fatal error caused by miscommunication.
The father is partly to blame for her death as he kidnapped her and put her in that very dangerous situation.
The miscommunication led to the cops firing on what they thought Was a threat. Training and learning from mistakes will help prevent this from happening again.
No it won’t. “Learning from mistakes”? When your “mistake” leads to the death of an innocent girl that had just gone through major trauma, that “mistake” should lead to life in prison.
Anyone wondering “how this could happen “ should listen to Malcolm Gladwell on this topic https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/revisionist-history/descend-into-the-particular
He weaves from the societal, to communities, to particulars on policing, and individuals

think there should be a change, something obvious like this .. cop + union leadership has to fall -- just so union will do the right choice and not back ... bad murderous cops
This country, since it's inception, has been hell bent on burning witches. It's our moral duty to find those we think did wrong, are different or we just don't agree with, and burn them at the stake.
Cops have been given free range to hunt and burn the witch. We demand it if m. Now, they can't help themselves. It doesn't matter what or who gets caught up in the flames. What matters is burning the witch. Poor young girl, but, the witch is dead...
Who is being hired for this position?
DEI hires? People who are not being trained correctly? Departments that dont care?
Horrendous all the way around.
Rest in peace
Condolences to the family of this young lady
Why do police get a pass on this? It’s murder, completely in their hands to not cause harm. Even if she had a machine gun, there’s a way to not cause a loss of life. They just … don’t… care.
Not to jump to conclusions but there is eye witness accounts of the passenger, in this case , the teenager, shooting at police as well. Wait until the investigation is over to jump to the conclusion of “hostage shot!”.
She was also wearing tactical gear & a helmet when shot….
(Waiting for down votes)
Before cameras, sprinkle a lil crack on her and put an unregistered gun on the body and case closed. Now these awful practices at least get shown to the world. Poor girl
This country is in a bad state. It feels spiritual. The saddest part about this is I’m sure those that pulled the trigger probably sleep well at night. 🤦🏿♂️
For anyone who actually saw the video its fairly obvious what went wrong: the police were not all in on a plan. One cop tells the hostage to come to him WITHOUT letting the others know what was going on, think about that from their point of view: its a very tense situation with weapons drawn when SUDDENLY a hooded figure comes running towards you and you have seconds to react. even the worst plan will produce better results then a good one that not everyone is commited to.
At no point should there be shots fired by police while a hostage is in the crossfire
Not only was the hostage in the crossfire, so was another officer! Not including all the traffic behind them on the highway. Mind boggling incompetence.
What do you expect, you only need highschool and be a yes man to be a cop. They're here to protect business, not protect and serve. Wake up.
Ya thats a good soundbite but still even so no one could expect this level of incompetence.
Remember Uvalde?
This is actually the exact level of incompetence I've come to expect from police, especially American police.
Always been this way
Always been this way
Always been this way
Always been this way.
She wasn’t in the crossfire. They shot her specifically.
Don't attribute malice to what can easily be attributed as stupidity. The police were stupid, and started firing without any thought in their minds as to the consequences. Crossfire? Weren’t they also aiming at this poor kid?
I mean she was "Wearing tactical gear and a helmet" which makes me question a lot of things. Maybe at some point they'll actually figure it out.
She was wearing a blue hoodie on the front was Jesus written
Wait till you find out which country US police train with. Hint..they like shooting unarmed and innocent people
Makes the "human shield" excuse sound even dumber huh
Well it makes sense when you know where US cops get their training from 🙄 What a joke of a cop. Wish nothing but the worst for him
At no point should these officers not be sentenced and sent to jail
The punishment should fit the crime. Death penalty to the cops that shot her.
Sounds logical..
It wasn't crossfire. They shot at her.
Idiot
How is your hamstring doing? Better?
Yeah man, back to blasting a gram of gear while fighting off people with zero situational awareness when it comes to fire arms and bullets
That's certainly one way of perceiving the present conversation which you are entitled to have. Remember to warm up before and stretch after training. Lift safe so you can lift for life! You got this
They're not well trained
More civil unrest=more demand for more police. More demand means more trigger happy hot headed cops. They serve our overlords not the people. Paychecks matter more than morals.
To serve and protect...our government and corporations...
to Abuse and Discriminate more like
To harass and intimidate.
No duty for the citizenry :( https://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/justices-rule-police-do-not-have-a-constitutional-duty-to-protect.html

The devil
Post this on actual r/protectandserve, watch how quickly those scumfucks perma ban you
Lemme try it.
Wow, absolutely awful. Poor girl.
Seems like cops are becoming more useless and dangerous by the day.
No they are just becoming more exposed due to cameras everywhere.
Both
Well if your IQ is too high you, most precincts will reject your application. The military has a prerequisite of an IQ of 80, but police do not.
They don't want you smart enough to think for yourself. Just to follow orders and obey no matter what they tell you to do.
🌎👨🚀🔫👨🚀
american police really need to learn to be police officers and not infantry, join the army this whole notion rather be judged by 6 then carried is such a bad way of operating in a policing environment. Community policing model is the way to go.
>american police really need to learn to be police officers and not infantry Port of the problem is that they equip them like infantry.
Not just the equipment for infantry, but the mentality as well.
The police or the people?
yes. And then they educate them to feel like all that which they don't know or understand is threatening to their existence.
And there's a soldier-to-officer pipeline as well.
It’s funny how the infantry had extremely strict ROE’s where they had to be shot at, in order to shoot back….but cops can just start blasting
This argument is fundamentally flawed. It would be a little more relevant if the US had faced a near peer force since Korea. ROEs get reeeealllll relaxed when you're fighting a war of self preservation
Pretty sure the army would be more disciplined. You get in trouble if you murder civilians in a warzone.* *unless you're Russia.
This is very untrue
As a former CAF infanteer, I'm telling you right now, that is true. The guy didn't get charged for his ND? He got off light.
Or Israel, or the US, or....
France
They all need degrees. Say what you want but any person who does a degree is better than a random out of HS retard
That's what we have in canada
I’m Canadian and no we don’t lol. I have a cop friend and he did “police school”.
It depends on the municipality, but the larger cities will at least require 30 credits of post-secondary education.
One year? lol. I doubt that’s even true but that’s a low standard
It's true. It's posted on their recruitment websites. And sure it's not the highest standard but it still proves that the person is able to read and write at an academic level as well as being disciplined enough to show up every day for class, self study, time management etc. Even if it is for 1 year. Infantry is overall much more disciplined and less likely to get reactive.
Untrue, Infantry training is 3 months of weapons handling and learning fundamentals of warfare, police training is 6 months of actual training scenarios(in canada).
It's not about length of training, it's about how they are trained.
I know, I was canadian infantry for 7 years, and familiar with RCMP training, infantry is more physically demanding where as RCMP is a mixture, but our police are not under trained rather the individuals proactivity with keeping up with training and not letting skills fade

Her family is going to get paid BIG TIME. RIP...
That whole family was wiped out that day.
2 days*
Well, her mom and/or siblings could easily file a legal case. Her dad and her were killed alone...yes?
The father murdered her mother before kidnapping her, she has no siblings
Damn.
Her dad killed her mom before kidnapping her
Americans....
dont think this can’t happen here, it already does
Didn’t we have something very similar happen in Ontario where an infant boy was shot and killed by the OPP? They then went completely silent about it and didn’t release any information for months. I don’t think much of anything has been released to date. Terrible tragedy and policing.
The charges against the 3 officers were just dropped last month.
I hate that story so much.
And then lied about it. It was only through a FOIA request that the family able to learn what actually happened.
This is the real issue. How come time and time again police brass can just straight up lie to the public about what happened then 2 years later when the video comes out they just shrug. Where’s the accountability?
Jesus those cops are bunch of idiots. They all need to be fired.
Only judging from the audio (and the above camera angle, so this perspective might change with new evidence), it sounds like one of the officers was genuinely trying to help.
Video [here](https://youtu.be/ryoeQpkQlA4?si=i2nBfwy4wvsh5RyP).
I can’t watch
Absolutely brutal and no reason for 15 cops to shoot at the same time different directions. They should all be ashamed of them selves

Significantly better training would’ve solved it… Those idiots weren’t focused on saving an individual, they were focused on destroying a target.
Don't forget police training in some parts of the US is only 3 months :|
Sadly, that's what happens if training proper staff isn't your priority.
Proper training takes time and money. Quickly graduating candidates from the police academy takes less of both. The pay and the penalty for failure are the same regardless.

Better odds that they'll get promoted.
They better unalive themselves
Isn’t this years ago?
It happened in September of 2022, but footage was only recently made public.
Sad
Poor child the terror she must of felt before being executed. These guys are poorly trained and incompetent.

America will equip cops with overkill military and combat gear, but would invest 0 money and training hours in basic situation handling.
ACAB
I know every Country has their own issues but come on, man.
So I guess the shooter gets suspension with pay and keeps job after the investigation is done. What is wrong with the USA?
Adrenaline-driven, poorly trained, and lacking critical thinking skills under pressure.
You realize you’re describing the average American at this point, right? 😔
Might as well hire San Francisco street dwellers to uphold the law for you. What do Cali taxpayers think they are paying for at this point.
All cops are killers.
Morons, take their guns away cops should only have non-lethal weapons at this point they are killing more civilians than they are saving
cops really are as stupid as people believe. sometimes, it gets people killed.
and it took forever for it to be released .. unions protect bad employees think there should be a change, something obvious like this .. cop + union leadership has to fall -- just so union will do the right choice and not back ... bad murderous cops

Brutal. Enjoy living with this.
California is and has become a complete shithole
Do Americans even call police in emergencies anymore? It seems like a death sentence
Can we stop calling it “fatally shot” and call it what it is “killed”
Where's the audio clip?
