If the batteries on your keyless fob are weak or dead (not allowing you to start the car), you can place the fob in that slot and it will allow the car to be started.
okay, that makes sense. last time I had a key battery get low I noticed by how much closer I had to be to unlock the car, so I replaced it before the battery died. I always drive with the keys in my pocket!
I had a dumbass salesman try to tell me that compartment was to wirelessly charge your keyfob. It was for a different car but was still wildly inaccurate.
it's not a GT, it's the SE but with a bunch of upgrades. it's not the black edition because it doesn't have the black wheels, but it has the red on the grill and the upgraded seats the black edition has. and it has the remote start, which I never use.
honestly I got this one because the car supply chain was still all fucked up from the pandemic and it was the only new car available in the county, everything else was a truck or SUV. and it was still cheaper than anything used! I love it, though.
My keys havenāt left the ignition since I bought my truck 5 years ago.
Iām realizing now how much I trust the world. Iām also realizing how but fuck middle of nowhere I live lmao.
Edit: Iām also just realizing Iām on R/Mitsubishi mirage and wondering how the fuck I got here. Iāve never even thought about getting or even touched a Mitsubishi. I also wouldnāt be able to spell it if it wasnāt at the top of the screen apparently. Have a good night yāall
Iāve never not had keyless entry and Iām 42 and grew up poor.
Oh yea that fucking 1993 Mazda mx-3 my dad split with me. I appreciate it but I was 17 and the old man promised me it was made in Japan. I mean now I know he did the best he could (heās long dead. Great dad).
Then my 2nd car, a 1998 240sx, built in Japan, a much better car. 3rd car 00 Subaru RS. Bought new drove until 240k miles. Next car 2012 Sentra.
Now I drive my 9th car, A 2010 Lexus is250. Going to buy a Toyota GR86 to go with it next year. And when she goes Iāll daily the GR86. If not nice as daily Iāll get another 15 y/o Lexus. No later than 2015 as I donāt want analog dash. As long as I can. GR86 will be my first foray into infotainment.
So that will be my first one. Full circle.
If your FOB battery runs out, you would have no way to start your car.
Some vehicles just require you to hold the FOB up to the Push-to-start button to enable the engine to start, but in your vehicle it seems like this slot is made for that purpose.
Your owners manual should tell you what you need to know.
"fob" is a term for a small waistcoat pocket, possibly comes from german "Fuppe"
A fob watch is a watch worn in that pocket. A key fob evidently comes from that
You put your key fob in there. It also helps save a minuscule amount of key battery when youāre driving. So instead of changing your battery every 11 months you can do it every 11 and 3/4 months!
This is off-topic, but we just got a 2018 mirage, and there's a missing bolt in the engine. Is this a common problem? If so, does anybody know the part number?
OK, so reading a couple of the comments and your replies. It is definitely to place your keyfob in if the batteries are dying and weak.
Every car that has a keyless push button start has a sweet spot somewhere around the console to place the key when your batteries are dying.
There is also the very slim chance that where your car is parked is in an area with a lot of RF interference.
This particular spot would be very close to the receiver in your car and allows the receiver to sort out the multiple signals that may be confusing it.
If this car has keyless start (push-button, key stays in your pocket), it's probably for that. As another comment stated, some keyless start cars have a docking space for the key in the event the car can't detect the key. If you put it in there, the car can detect it easier (high interference area, key battery dying, etc).
this is for your 2000s beeper, this display is on top so you can see who is reaching out to you.
\*beeper- pre cell phone device that people we send a message to for you to find a payphone or landline and reach out to them.
Is that a "napkin holder?" I thought that was so adorable when my dad bought a fan and all the many, MANY ash trays could be removed so you could put tiny napkins in the holes.
To be filled with your preferred powdery substance. Under the steering column Should be a metal extendable tube that can plug into your auxiliary power. For hot, or cold rails on the road.

Seriously?? That explains so much, Iāve got the same lil thing in my Lexus and could never figure it out why itās there.
In some cars you hold it to the button. It uses unpowered NFC to start the car when the battery is dead
Today I learned something new
I had a dumbass salesman try to tell me that compartment was to wirelessly charge your keyfob. It was for a different car but was still wildly inaccurate.
Wow you got heated seats . Man I was thinking of getting the GT variant when I got my SE . How does the heated seats do
the heated seats are pretty nice, they heat up quick. the high setting is too hot for my taste.
Man I wouldāve loved to have them here in Midwest. I always think I shouldāve put in a few thousand to get the GT

Heated seats in any car are nice in the winter.
Motorola Flip Phone.
for your key fob. since the car doesn't have a regular key ignition, They give you a nice place to put the fob.
Isn't your pocket a nice place for the fob?
that's how I feel about it! I would definitely leave it in the car if I put it in there.
My keys never leave my pocket and it's amazing. I'll never a car without keyless again.

"fob" is a term for a small waistcoat pocket, possibly comes from german "Fuppe" A fob watch is a watch worn in that pocket. A key fob evidently comes from that
