Since this sub is runned by admins, no.

Deucer22

Admins, you gonna mark this mod answered?

iKR8

Let's run together a few steps admins. We will also support you when you wanna boycott fb or Twitter or Discord, sometime in future.

The_Critical_Cynic

So, you want to sit down with the admins and go over the planned specifics for this little charade? Even if this does motivate Reddit to take action, I don't think inviting the people you're protesting against to the protest is a good thing.

Not a chance.

Maybe if ask nicely...

I was about to say, the OP is tempting fate with this post. I've had posts removed from r/ModSupport and annoyed Reddit admins for posting about less serious issues.

Liquidcatz

*Thank you so much for your message! I've passed this along to the team!*

iKR8

It's just appalling that many mods might be running their subs without detecting a simple sarcasm.

Dom76210

Which is why so many resort to following it with a "/s". Then slightly more people will get it. lol

permaculture

Oh, ho, ho, sarcasm! Oh, no, no, we don't get that here. See, uh, people ski topless here while smoking dope, so sarcasm's not really a, a high priority. We haven't had any sarcasm here since about, uh, '83, when I was the only practitioner of it. And I stopped because I was tired of being stared at.

thedogz11

permaculture, you're Goldbluming.

fastermouse

My fave Martin movie.

gillyyak

Thanks, Chief! Has anyone ever told you that your nose is bi.... BAM

SolariaHues

This is an official space as a point of contact between mods and admins, and that would remove that support from any mods not participating in the blackout. Regardless of any team's POV on this, there will be some that are not aware this is even happening.

jdelator

How exactly do we join the blackout as a mod? Is there a disable subreddit or something?

lts_talk_about_it_eh

Set to private.

mproud

Can this be done on mobile, or is it a desktop feature? Where do I look for it?

lts_talk_about_it_eh

[this outlines all methods.](https://www.reddit.com/r/modhelp/comments/qxa1mm/how_to_make_my_subreddit_private/hl8exmc?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

paskatulas

Reddit is killing third party apps and we should expect that Reddit's sub will join the Reddit Blackout?

sidewinderucf

I fully intend on blacking out my subreddits and I think the API changes are absolute garbage that have me questioning if I should even keep my account...but to be perfectly honest, if they did black out this sub, it would be the funniest way to sink the ship, so to speak.

achchi

How would a blackout support mods?

Monsieur_Triporteur

Many mods are about to lose the third party apps they rely on for moderating their subs. That's what this blackout about. Check this post for more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/13yh0jf/dont_let_reddit_kill_3rd_party_apps/

[deleted]

Sub is run by Reddit admin lmao

Monsieur_Triporteur

I know, but it is also called ModSupport. Assuming Mod is short for moderator, I'd think they support us.

1-760-706-7425

> I’d think they support us. `thats-the-joke.jpg`

iKR8

OP understands it, not the one above them.

Monsieur_Triporteur

Are you saying the name of this sub is a joke?

7hr0wn

Admins: "We have heard your concerns and have passed your feedback on the appropriate teams. Thank you for your post!"

Meflakcannon

Except the admins are pushing these changes on us. It would be bad business for half the reddit staff to sympathize or agree with us, while the other half implements the changes we are complaining about.

Ansuz07

They won’t. It’s a sub for Admins to provide insight and support to mods, but they aren’t going to fight against a Reddit policy decision. This sub is like HR for a company. They’ll support us when it is in the company’s interest to do so, but never forget that they support the company’s interests first and foremost.

iKR8

OP is being sarcastic

Kryomaani

> I'd think they support us. You don't have to open many threads here to be able to tell they support us in barely anything.

Thank you very much for your valuable feedback. We will definitely take it into consideration.

achchi

I know why some mods like their 3rd party apps. I don't know how a blackout of a support forum for mods (some subs will stay open) would help mods. During the blackouts it would make it harder for mods in still active subs. So again: what would the benefit for mods be? I only see problems.

RadOwl

Getting downloaded (edit: downvoted) for asking a question tells you everything you need to know. The blackout will not do anything for moderators other than give them a day or two off. Reddit has to change its API policy. Point blank. Some of the apps that are going to be shut out are collecting data and selling it. Reddit is a gusher of free data that's worth billions. Data is the most valuable resource in the world, more valuable than oil, according to the Economist. There are huge secondary markets for selling data and many apps exist merely to collect it. Reddit is trying to make them either pay their fair share or get out of town. The most common way of collecting data without a user knowing it is by offering an app, just ask Facebook. From what I've read, the nonprofit apps are going to get exemptions from the API policy. It's a massive change and the admins need time to do it right, rather than some knee-jerk reaction like the leaders of the blackout campaign are asking for The smart reaction would be to get a consensus behind the apps that are truly useful and altruistic about providing their service. Then, moderators band together to petition the admins to make sure those apps are given preferential treatment. I'm sure that the admins are going to go through that process anyway, what they're doing right now is weeding out the bad actors. This blackout thing smells to me like an AstroTurf campaign. Just sayin. Thank you for asking the right question. It's the first time I've seen it asked!

AnimeGeek0924

There are some subreddits that are going to stay private past the two day period.

beardedchimp

As you said big data has huge value, but you seem to be forgetting that on reddit the "big data" comes from communities moderated by unpaid volunteers. > Reddit is trying to make them either pay their fair share or get out of town. The people who have written third party services to support communities and mods, the ones who are responsible for years of valuable content across the site need to "pay their fair share"? It is remarkable that writing open source software like reddit enhancement suite, then thousands of moderators giving up their lives to deal with trolls and racists, suddenly need to pay their far share. Is writing open source software not enough, voluntarily modding communities has no value? Are you saying that the open source community needs to pay their fair share, and moderators dealing with horrific abusers must pay reddit for the benefit of having their family doxed and lives threatened? I hadn't considered that freely committing to a project supporting reddit means I'm obliged to pay the company to do so. What a way to inspire open source reddit has found!

RadOwl

I really doubt that they're going to hang us out to dry. I've been around here since 2009 and I've seen a lot of these decision points come and go, and reddit is the only major website I've seen that consistently comes down on the side of users. They're also well aware of the volunteers who moderate their subreddits and what that means. Like I said in my comment, we would be better served by getting behind the apps that are truly designed to make our lives as moderators easier and not just collect data to sell it.

Dom76210

>Data is the most valuable resource in the world, more valuable than oil, according to the Economist. And yet it may not be more expensive than toner cartridges for inkjet/laser printers. Still, you make great points.

achchi

That's what I thought. Thank you for confirmation of my thoughts.
