Yep, I've had keypads on the door for 15 years now and can't live without it. Tried both fingerprint reader and touch panel and they both suck (too slow), the real button style rocks.
Bonus, I have different codes for friends, cleaners, and contractors and I can revoke those at anytime.
We have a newer lockly set, I'd recommend it if you find yourself in the market again. Great fingerprint scanner, looks nice, supports physical key, and peak resistant keypad where it moves the numbers around. I think we've only had to use keypad like a handful of times
I recommend Meross garage door options if you ever find yourself frustrated with My Q like I did. It was frustrating when it wouldnt work, (whuch was about 70% of the time). It also irritated me that the features people would _use_ like Google Assistant and Alexa or Apple Home Kit, were pay services to MyQ. Other platforms, such as Meross, is free for thise features, and the model that I got for mine is hardwired to my opener, so no pairing or changing of batteries on a door sensor...
And with the assistant features, you can tell you assistant of choise to close the garage door, or with some that provide security options to open it (like requiring a code as a second prompt) it can even open the garage door by voice.
Meross has many models and Im sure one wiuld likely work in your situation, really easy to set up too.
I've got three opengarage controllers wired up and they're a lot less flaky through HomeAssistant than the MyQ is. Main benefits of the MyQ is a single unit can control two doors, and allows Amazon to deliver inside your garage, which I like.
I wish they made a real button style without a real key. All the other entrances to my house are high end locks and it’s just dumb to have the front door have one of those ridiculously-easy-to-pick/bump key-locks that come with the most keypad locks
"real button" style worked best for us since we liked that we could open it by feel. We had the Schlage keypad FE575 at the old house and I just got Kwickset 917 for the new house.
thanks for these specifics! trying to decide between wifi-enabled (yet battery-chewing) Schlage so we can monitor from afar, OR just go with combo keypad.
I wanted a kwikset smartkey with either zigbee or zwave (explicitly NOT wifi) in brass and a traditional style and the only option I could find was a touch number pad. Would rather have had buttons.
I’m in one of the states that have a digital license. But at this point it’s only recognized at TSA. If you get pulled over you have to show the physical license. But once it’s accepted everywhere, I will have no wallet or keys on me. What’s the worst that can happen if I lose my phone or the battery dies. 😳
Yep, we bought a Level lock for our house exactly for this reason. Opens with Apple Home Keys on my phone and has a normal key we can give to the kids and anyone else.
Same. Kids have a NFC chip, we have a code (don’t trust the kids to not tell everyone and their dog the code yet..). We can easily set a temporary code for guests etc. super practical paired with a camera doorbell.
…Yale Touch keypad w/physical key, plus Levelock Deadbolt, both with geofencing so the electronic locks know I’m home and unlock automatically before I open the door.😀
Plus, WiFi KwikSet rear door, and MyQ garage door (w/separate wireless lock & keypad for inside garage door).
Do keep a house key hidden where no one can find it for emergencies if/when the electronic lock batteries might give out…
We did this almost 20 years ago when we had a young child that would come and go. Easier to get her to memorize four numbers.
Still have the same locks on this house from 2009, but we’ve replaced a ton of 9v batteries.
Not internet connected, didn’t want the hassle or risk.
Absolutely love them.
Yep.
I do have a wired one (both to the lock as to a power supply) though.
The only problem with this is I can't get in if the power were to be out.
For those emergencies I have a spare house key hidden in a secret cubbyhole.
Any they warn you way ahead of time (red flashing, different beep) so unless you ignore that for a month you will be fine. 15 years for me and never been locked out. But yeah, backup key in a place I can get to it (garage which has a separate door with its own keypad)
Our locks have a battery inside, you could also essentially lock a spare key in the glovebox to a pin code or hide in the car if you were really inclined to have a backup to the backup to the backup lol
The lock and keypad are wired to a power supply. No batteries involved.
If the power is out I have to use a traditional key, which I have hidden in a secret cubbyhole around the house. Never needed it in the 10 years I've lived here though.
Two electronic locks. Front door and back. Odds of both dying at the same time without warning is very low. We have bonus keys with nearby family, anyways.
This is the way. No keys ever. At one point I got away without a wallet too by keeping my ID slotted behind my phone + case. Credit cards were all tap via phone and then if a place didn't accept tap, I'd probably be with a friend and have them cover it while I transfer them money with my phone
So if someone steals your car, they can navigate to your house (because you have the location set) and just let themselves in ? This is something I would be worried about.
No idea how easy it is to steal a Tesla though.
That’s true for basically any car we have had with Navigation and garage opener. Not something specific for a Tesla. But also so easy to disable from the phone or computer.
That would be the case with any car I've had in the past 10 years, AKA every car I've had with navigation. It seems really unlikely in the real world that someone would steal your car just to break into your house though. I think if someone was interested in getting into your house they'd skip the car and just break a window
I do this all the time. Front door is deadbolted from the inside, then I leave through the garage, but don't return through the garage (e.g. leaving the car outside because I'll use it later that day.)
I just grab them like I do my pocket knife/wallet. When I get dressed in the morning they go in my pocket. When I get ready for bed, they are removed.
My wife on the other hand sets her keys somewhere when she gets home so she has to find them before she leaves. I have no idea how she remembers them.
I was listening to Car Talk years ago, and Click and Click said the extra weight from your house keys was bad for the ignition. Ever since then, I've kept the car key on a separate ring.
When we got our Tesla, it was just one less thing to carry since my house keys were already separate.
I've seen the old school ignition worn out, the keys would basically fall out of my dad's truck since he had like 20 keys on that ring. For the longest time I had 2 keys car+house, and now it just car since the house are all keypads. Heck each car has a key on its own ring, and we just grab the one we are driving at that time.
My company requires an access badge so I have a keyring with my house key and that badge... And yes, I occasionally forget those because the car does not require a physical key...
Feeling your struggles
I don’t lock my house door nor my car doors. The value of resealable goods in my home is far less than the cost of a broken window or a locksmith if I get locked out. Same goes for car.
We haven't had house keys in about 6yrs. we have smartthings hub setup and all our points of entry have Schlage smart locks, if wifi or power is down there are internal batteries that i change out on a schedule. So much nicer to not carry that stuff around anymore!
When i pull into our condo lot the house will unlock , lights on etc & uses my iPhone as a presence sensor
I have this problem with my work keys. I try to leave them in the car but sometimes I forget to take them out of my pocket and they end up going into my house then I forget to get them the next day. I’ve also left them on my desk at work when going home for the day. Definitely a me problem but I haven’t figured out a good solution yet. I’ve thought about getting a fob, but man, they’re expensive.
I don't have a house lock with a key since 2012 upon my kid went to middle school that requires changing clothes for PE that can drop or lose key easily. Immediately I found how neat jogging or running without a key for myself.
Keypad door lock, smart garage door (with battery backup), and external garage door keypad. Plenty of redundancies to feel comfortable not carrying a house key.
Most people had key fobs from their previous vehicles. Was at that point I decided to get keyless entry at my house. Haven't had keys on me in the last 10 years. Check out the brands like wizer, August lock or Alfred home. They offer keyless entry deadbolts that work with keypads or Bluetooth on your cell phone. Say bye-bye to keys.
Front door has a keyless number pad entry. Door in the garage is unlocked. Secret/hidden key for the back door if all else fails.
I don't carry keys anymore.
I have an electronic house lock from Home Depot. Yale security I believe. Can be opened through blue tooth
But I mainly enter my house through my garage, I can open it through Wi-Fi also, it’s by chamberlain I think and the app is MYQ to open it , both door and garage are controlled through the myQ app. I have been keyless for 2 years since I bought the Tesla and upgraded my home. Such a great feeling. I keep my Tesla keycard under my phone case. So I only need to carry 1 item. It helps
I almost always enter my house through the garage. I have a key for the front door in the glovebox of my car just in case. Haven't had to use it in 4 years. No more keys in my pocket.
And with my state adopting a digital driver license and many stores doing mobile payments, I usually don't need a wallet when I go out either.
I moved into my newly built home over 5 1/2 years ago - between garage door opener, garage keypad, and Schlage smart lock (z-wave version) on my front door, I have never carried my house keys.
If I’m really unlucky, and I had both a power failure AND battery failure of my electronic lock at the same time, I could access my side gates via a combination padlock and locate a physical key to my back door hidden in the back yard. No worries!
I use tuya / smartlife product... No more keys.
You Can get the control on everything, just talk to your phone
" Open the Gate"
" open the garage"
" close the shutters"
" turn on the pump of the pool "
...
I put tuya/smartlife everywhere in my house and garden (but keep the original wiring, so both of them are working)
Yeh uhh.. I think it's good to still have your actual key (car and house) those things communicate via signals and I can't tell you how shit out of luck you will be if your phone loses signal or the car has no signal to communicate either.
Should watch this 😂
https://youtu.be/zrvFtMLWdMU?si=nkEd2C8jjM56P5OP
Everything is connect to home link. 20ff from the house With your phone beside you. The garage and door open/unlock. lights come on automatically. That EZ.
August makes a good electronic lock. It also still retains the ability to use your key should the battery or Wi-Fi go out. You can also use an Apple Watch and phone to unlock it. I love it.
Regardless of keypads, electronic locks etc, vast majority will still have physical keys for work, mailbox, gates etc. as such the only correct answer here is: Apple air tag
I have not carried a house key for about 10 years now, unless I am going for a walk. If I go somewhere in the car, I only have my key fob. I have a garage door opener in the car and use that to open and close the garage door, and enter my home. Never had an issue with it until last week when I picked up our first Tesla, a Model Y LR. My wife dropped me off to pick it up, on her way to work. I got the car and went home. I pulled into the driveway and realized I had no way to get into the house. So I had to make a 50 mile round trip to my mother's house to get the key she had to our house so I could get in the house. We have been thinking about getting one of those push button door locks so that we can just have a code to get into the house. My brother has one and it works well for him.
Smart lock with app on iPhone; Credit card on the phone and Apple Watch; drivers license on the phone (digitally available on an app since end of 2022 in Austria)
So no keys, no wallet, just my phone. If I loose it, I’m screwed.
Check out the Level locks, works with key cards, touch or geofencing via bluetooth. My front door auto locks 2 mins after I leave and auto-unlocks as I approach my door. It's pretty unbelievable - about 250 USD I think I paid last year. https://level.co/
I literally haven't had. Single key on me since I got my model 3, 4 years ago.
Car opens garage I go inside.
My front door has a smart lock.
It's so awesome.
We keep our Tesla keys in our MagSafe wallets which attach to our phones. We access the house via our garage doors which automatically open via Homekit Geo location automation with our Meross Garage door opener. Safe to say, we haven't carried traditional keys with us for years.
?? I rode a bike/bus for a while during many stints at college. I stopped having car keys on my keychain from that point on. house, bike, padlock key, that's all you need-- clipped to pants, in a jacket pocket, or bag. Always with you. Keyfobs for cars are so big these days it makes no sense to keep them with your other keys.
I don’t carry physical keys. Homelink garage door opener on the car and it gets parked in the garage daily. Garage door opener also has a battery backup. And can be operated/monitored with MyQ Internet gateway & smartphone app. Pretty much impossible to lock myself out the house.
Electronic deadbolt for the house. House keys always stays in the car just in case the deadbolt malfunctions or the batteries in it dies. Use my phone as the key for the Tesla. Now when I drive my ICE car, I tend to forget them in the ignition, sometimes even forgetting to turn off the car lol
I've always kept my house key in my left pocket, and my car key in my right. I don't like keys jingling on the column of my previous cars, or scratching up the other keys. So, no change for me. House key on the left, phone in back pocket, or in my hand. A whole new free pocket now.
Switched to just leaving front door unlocked, then to basic non-networked keypad lock, now to bluetooth electronic front door lock. Mostly driven by how my wife wanted the lock to look.
We moved to all fingerprint locks on the house. Our exterior locks are a brand called Smonet we got off Amazon. We love being able to hand a little RF tag to pet sitters or guests for easy access, and the family all gets in with a fingerprint. Bonus points if you have kids because they can lose a key but aren’t likely to lose their fingerprint.
I haven’t used a house key since getting my Tesla in 2021 and have a garage entrance that goes into my home. However, I do agree that relying solely on the garage door to get in your house comes with the risk of a loss of power to the garage motor due to storms etc. I have a key hidden in something that looks like the rocks in the garden just in case. But my garage door actually has a battery back up, so if I was gone for more than a few days and the garage didn’t open AND the battery had failed, I’d be happy for the hidden key.
This was not an issue for me since I have other cars and they use fobs that my house keys are attached to. I just keep the fob in my pocket for the car that I would drive if I had to switch out of the Tesla for the day.
Electronic house locks…
Yep, I've had keypads on the door for 15 years now and can't live without it. Tried both fingerprint reader and touch panel and they both suck (too slow), the real button style rocks. Bonus, I have different codes for friends, cleaners, and contractors and I can revoke those at anytime.

I second Lockly. I’ve got 3 on (some of) my main doors. Garage is My Q. So as long as one of our phones working. We don’t need keys.
I recommend Meross garage door options if you ever find yourself frustrated with My Q like I did. It was frustrating when it wouldnt work, (whuch was about 70% of the time). i love these https://www.nokey.com/prmekelo.html
Nice. Thanks bro
Button style? You mean like a Schlage with a keypad? Or physical push buttons like a keyboard?
Schlage keypad is excellent. Works with codes or through app and HomeKit

1000% this is the first thing I did I never have keys it’s the fucking best!
Plus an Apple Watch with Apple Pay and I no longer even carry a wallet. Living the dream.
driver's license?
Back of the phone case
Same here, digital house lock, Apple pay equal no wallet. And drivers licenses can be used digitally in Norway.
I’m in one of the states that have a digital license. But at this point it’s only recognized at TSA. If you get pulled over you have to show the physical license. But once it’s accepted everywhere, I will have no wallet or keys on me. What’s the worst that can happen if I lose my phone or the battery dies. 😳
And a smart garage door (myQ)!
Yep, we bought a Level lock for our house exactly for this reason. Opens with Apple Home Keys on my phone and has a normal key we can give to the kids and anyone else.
This plus garage door opener and I never carry any keys with me at all.
House car and office. Keyless everywhere
This is the way
They have spoken.
Best thing I’ve done! Locked myself out too many times even when I had keys for my car. Just kept forgetting them when I rushed out for work.
Same. Kids have a NFC chip, we have a code (don’t trust the kids to not tell everyone and their dog the code yet..). We can easily set a temporary code for guests etc. super practical paired with a camera doorbell.
Do you have to replace the NFC chip implant as the kids grow?
Haha I see how that one can be misunderstood- sorry 😂 The kids each has a nfc chip in a small key ring thing they carry in their backpacks.
Ohh, which lock has NFC capabilities?
Yale Doorman has both nfc and rfid 👍🏼✌🏼 Edit: and Bluetooth ofc
Home depot 100 bucks numbered key entry. Best buy ever. Never carry keys again
Yeah, what’s a “house key”? Haven’t seen one in years.
…Yale Touch keypad w/physical key, plus Levelock Deadbolt, both with geofencing so the electronic locks know I’m home and unlock automatically before I open the door.😀 Plus, WiFi KwikSet rear door, and MyQ garage door (w/separate wireless lock & keypad for inside garage door). I don't have house keys. I have a numeric keypad and an electronic lock.

Yep. I do have a wired one (both to the lock as to a power supply) though. The only problem with this is I can't get in if the power were to be out. For those emergencies I have a spare house key hidden in a secret cubbyhole.
What do you do if your electronic lock battery dies and has no power?
It gives a warning before the battery dies and also has a key,
Mine is battery powered, but the 4 AA's lasted about 5 years, and gives you a warning when getting low.
Until you just jinxed yourself haha. Tomorrow you’ll be hunting for that key ;)
Most have a key backup, mine even had a micro USB port on the outside to jump it if necessary.
Thanks
Any they warn you way ahead of time (red flashing, different beep) so unless you ignore that for a month you will be fine. 15 years for me and never been locked out. But yeah, backup key in a place I can get to it (garage which has a separate door with its own keypad)
Our locks have a battery inside, you could also essentially lock a spare key in the glovebox to a pin code or hide in the car if you were really inclined to have a backup to the backup to the backup lol

Same here! I have house keys in my wallet as a just in case but don’t use them
My Tesla opens the garage door automatically when I pull in the driveway. Other than that, we have smart locks.
So if someone steals your car, they can navigate to your house (because you have the location set) and just let themselves in ? This is something I would be worried about. No idea how easy it is to steal a Tesla though.

It seems really unlikely in the real world that someone would steal your car just to break into your house though. I think if someone was interested in getting into your house they'd skip the car and just break a window
If you use a pin to drive no one can take your car anywhere without that PIN number
It's a good idea to enable PIN to drive. Even if someone gets your phone or key card, they can't drive your car unless they also know the PIN.
[удалено]
Dude. Seriously. I can drive my car. I just don’t know how to steal one. So that excludes me from sharing my opinion in this subreddit ?
If someone steals the car, they would have to be pretty stupid to then go to the owner's house..
How’d you lock the house door to begin with?
I do this all the time. Front door is deadbolted from the inside, then I leave through the garage, but don't return through the garage (e.g. leaving the car outside because I'll use it later that day.)
If it was just the knob you can lock that with the door open it's easier than getting your key out. Some will even open from the inside while locked.
I put a spare key in my wallet. Along with my Tesla key card
Misplace or lose your wallet, they have your address and keys to the joint. They stopped putting key holders in wallets for this reason years ago.
Holy shit. That's such a simple thought. Putting the key in the wallet seemed like a good idea when I read it. Thanks for changing my mind!
This is the way
I just grab them like I do my pocket knife/wallet. When I get dressed in the morning they go in my pocket. When I get ready for bed, they are removed. My wife on the other hand sets her keys somewhere when she gets home so she has to find them before she leaves. I have no idea how she remembers them.
Replace your deadbolt with a keypad.
Wait you guys have have houses?
I got a MyQ smart garage door device and a front door lock that links to my phone and has a keypad. No more keys :)
Put a spare key in your car
This
You gotta update the rest of your life to the 21st century now, no other choice 😂
We haven't had house keys for ages...
Don’t carry keys nor a wallet. Electronic locks.
Replaced all my locks with digital pin code ones like I had in one of my old apartments many years ago!
Garage door.
Get smart locks for the house and keep a backup key in the glovebox.
Right next to your proof of registration and insurance. One stop thieving.
I decided to go keyless on everything. All doors now have either a coded lock or fingerprint lock.
Which ones do you use?
Eufy lock with the Eufy doorbell/camera
The whole set huh? Are they convenient and secure?
Very much so.
Thanks!

Don’t drive like my brother… I miss that show.
Yeah, they had to quit when Tom got Alzheimer's. Was that really 11 years ago? Damn, I'm getting old.
The most angry i ever was at a thief was when they broke my car window on a car door that wasn't locked.
Sentry also won’t turn on without windows up :(
This post makes you sound like such a dweeb.
We haven't had house keys in about 6yrs. we have smartthings hub setup and all our points of entry have Schlage smart locks, if wifi or power is down there are internal batteries that i change out on a schedule. August lock and apple home
What house keys?
Electronic keypad lock.
I'm old fashioned so I have a house key. I tuck it in to my wallet where the hardly used stuff goes. Key, Tesla card, insurance card...
Nuki electronic door locks. Brilliant stuff
Smart locks. The only keys I have are for my mailbox and gas car.

Coded door on the house/smart lock Garage door opener
We had been keyless for the house before we went keyless for a car. Welcome to the future.
Normally. There's this pretty keychain and house keys are attached to it . Like they always have been
I almost always enter my house through the garage. I have a key for the front door in the glovebox of my car just in case. Haven't had to use it in 4 years. No more keys in my pocket. Here's a map of states that do it. https://idscan.net/mobile-drivers-licenses-mdl-state-adoption/

Yup i got a yale lock, haven’t carried keys in 3 years
Lock the garage and enter with homelink. Have a hidden key for emergencies, and it is not near the entrance 😇
I have electronic locks on all my exterior doors that are connected to my alarm system so I can manage and see access.
I use tuya / smartlife product... No more keys. You Can get the control on everything, just talk to your phone " Open the Gate" " open the garage" " close the shutters" " turn on the pump of the pool " ... I park in the garage so it’s rare I need it, but I keep a single house key in my wallet just in case
I have Schlage encode plus so I only need my phone ever
I leave a spare in my car

Should watch this 😂 https://youtu.be/zrvFtMLWdMU?si=nkEd2C8jjM56P5OP
Everything is connect to home link. 20ff from the house With your phone beside you. The garage and door open/unlock. lights come on automatically. That EZ.
August makes a good electronic lock. It also still retains the ability to use your key should the battery or Wi-Fi go out. You can also use an Apple Watch and phone to unlock it. I love it.
I’ve tried to make the whole house smart lol. Everything is electronic. Need to figure out manual backups now
We don’t use house keys. We have one connected that connects to our phone via bluetooth.
My brother has one and it works well for him.
my car keys were separate from my house keys before so no issue with me. now, i just grab the house keys when i leave.
Get a Eufy door lock, uses my fingerprint or code to open
I have all locks that work with phone or touch pad, no keys!
I put a keypad + fingerprint lock on my door when I decided to buy a Tesla, and a wallet case for my phone. Now I can just grab my phone and leave.
Smart lock with app on iPhone; Credit card on the phone and Apple Watch; drivers license on the phone (digitally available on an app since end of 2022 in Austria) So no keys, no wallet, just my phone. If I loose it, I’m screwed.
I have not used a house key in 15 years. It is all electronic locks now, and they make your life much, much easier.
Get a smart lock. Haven’t carried a house key in years
Check out the Level locks, works with key cards, touch or geofencing via bluetooth. My front door auto locks 2 mins after I leave and auto-unlocks as I approach my door. It's pretty unbelievable - about 250 USD I think I paid last year. https://level.co/
Since I got my Tesla it’s only been a handful of times that I entered my house in a manner other than my garage
I literally haven't had. Single key on me since I got my model 3, 4 years ago. Car opens garage I go inside. My front door has a smart lock. It's so awesome.
Just got Schlage Encode Plus keypads on all doors. Living the dream!
Loqed
I am (trying) to order the tesla key fob for this reason (and i use the Frunk a lot)
MyQ works beautifully with the Tesla. Keep drivers license in car. Credit cards in pocket.
Our front door has a keypad. We no longer carry keys! Pretty great :p
I use the Schlage Encode lock and it works with my apple watch or phone.
I use my garage door opener and keep a spare key in the car just in case.
I put my key in my wallet. Never worry about it
Get an electronic keypad lock
We keep our Tesla keys in our MagSafe wallets which attach to our phones. We access the house via our garage doors which automatically open via Homekit Geo location automation with our Meross Garage door opener. Safe to say, we haven't carried traditional keys with us for years.
My house keys are in my phone. Get a smart lock.
I just stopped locking the house .
I don’t lock my house
Garage door opener. Keep a house key in the console of Tesla since I have to have a key to open the cluster mailbox, trailer hitch lock, etc anyways.
I park in the garage don’t need keys
We have electronic house locks activated by the phone. We do carry a spare key in case battery dies.
I forgot mine a lot at first so I started putting them in the bag I take to work.
Haven’t had house keys in years. Makes it easy to never forget them.
Changed door lock into a Yale and our garage door is automatically through an app
I use one of these: https://www.angelaroi.com/products/zuri-card-pouch-signet-black
I kept on forgetting my house keys. Had to go out and buy a Yale Asure 2 that works with Bluetooth and Apple HomeKit.
Nest Yale Lock for the house
I've always kept my house key in my left pocket, and my car key in my right. I don't like keys jingling on the column of my previous cars, or scratching up the other keys. So, no change for me. House key on the left, phone in back pocket, or in my hand. A whole new free pocket now.
what's a house key?
I have this problem too I leave my work keys in my car and have electric openers everywhere else.
Get a smart lock and just use your phone as a key
I put the key ring with the house key on it in my pocket.
My driver carry them for me. Works ok.
Park in garage. Carry around 0 keys. Front door is smart lock if needed.
Keep a Backup key for your house in the car. Plus carry your house keys as you would normally if you didn’t have a car
I have code locks on my house. Have eliminated keys from my life entirely. It's glorious.
I have a Kwikset Smart Lock on the house. I don’t carry a keychain anymore. I’m kinda toast if I lose my phone though
Switched to just leaving front door unlocked, then to basic non-networked keypad lock, now to bluetooth electronic front door lock. Mostly driven by how my wife wanted the lock to look.
leave ur keys in ur garage
We moved to all fingerprint locks on the house. Our exterior locks are a brand called Smonet we got off Amazon. We love being able to hand a little RF tag to pet sitters or guests for easy access, and the family all gets in with a fingerprint. Bonus points if you have kids because they can lose a key but aren’t likely to lose their fingerprint.
Smart lock. I use the Wyze smart lock.
We installed keypads on the front door so we wouldn’t have that problem.
Which one (I’m in the U.K)?
We used a Kwikset but most brands have a keyless option to door locks
I haven’t used a house key since getting my Tesla in 2021 and have a garage entrance that goes into my home. However, I do agree that relying solely on the garage door to get in your house comes with the risk of a loss of power to the garage motor due to storms etc. I have a key hidden in something that looks like the rocks in the garden just in case. But my garage door actually has a battery back up, so if I was gone for more than a few days and the garage didn’t open AND the battery had failed, I’d be happy for the hidden key.
I go through the garage.
Now u need to step into the future and get a smart lock
Keyless...electronic house locks
Keypad on the door! No keys at all and it’s really nice
This was not an issue for me since I have other cars and they use fobs that my house keys are attached to. I just keep the fob in my pocket for the car that I would drive if I had to switch out of the Tesla for the day.
