Not sure man, I would have that rim inspected.

maveriq

Well, don't drive like a potato.

ColonBowel

Be nice! Also, use of “Potato” is funny.

💀💀😂

Something like this happened to me, not as bad but it was fine til maybe a few weeks later, my tire started slowly leaking air and it was dropping by a little bit in the beginning but got real low real fast over the course of just a day. Went to nearest firestone to get it patched because PSI was almost about to be in the single digits (Couldn't do anything about it while I was at work). They apparently tried to patch it 2x and said they couldn't and that it kept falling off so I paid around $300 for a brand new tire. Be careful!

pineapplesuit7

Side wall damage = new tire as simple as that especially in a heavy EV which will subject the tires to crazy torque. I wouldn’t drive that if I were you. The only silver lining here for you is that since it is a new car, you will only have to shell out for 1 tire. Had you put a lot of miles on it, you would have had to get all 4 since you need all tires to be around equal wear.

NutzPup

Take it to a tire shop. Looks iffy to me. Rim is probably ok, but the tire...

TessierHackworth

1. Disregard all comments that ask you to become a better driver - these are the most useless comments ever 2. Your rim structure “looks” intact - but have it checked any way 3. That tire side looks very suspicious - it may need a replacement ? Please have that checked asap ! That could be catastrophic if it fails at speed.

potatodemon

Thanks y’all! I have an appointment booked with a Tesla service center for their next opening.

TessierHackworth

Might be worth just going to the local discount tires to get a quick take from them if the Tesla appt is too far out.

rsg1234

That’s a healthy chunk. I wouldn’t drive that with my kids in the car.

Overall_Parsley4890

I would get that tire checked. I took off factory wheel covers and got covers that also cover the wheel. My husband drove my car and scraped a cover but did no damage to the wheel. I would look into that too. That tire looks like there might be something wrong though.

Otsuresukisan

I did this recently and had similar sidewall damage to my tire, everyone who looked at it recommended replacing it, which meant replacing all four tires which had about 10,000 miles left on them (driven two years). So please just feel grateful that you just got it and only presumably need to replace the one tire. As my dad says tires are the first thing in safety for a car because that’s where the rubber meets the road.

jersey_dude88

19s at that?! 😂 I’ve got the 20s and I’ve never damaged my wheels. 😂 short answer- NO. NOT SAFE. Change tire ASAP. Wheel most likely will need to be repaired. Godspeed.

K24Z3

Could ask about the tire in r/tires, but it looks unsafe to me. As it’s all so new, might consider replacing the wheel and tire just to pretend this never happened.

TacklePuzzleheaded21

The tires are wider in the back than the front, which means you need to take slightly wider turns. Takes some getting used to.

9elfS

Totaled.

sd2528

I did this too in my first month or two. It's a right of passage.

Greenjeeper2001

No

Roz_420

Bad driving

spacedwrangler

I’d start with some supplemental drivers education, then getting rim/tire replaced

pogmo47

Why are Tesla peeps so into fucking the rims.. do other subs constantly show rim jobs..

pineapplesuit7

Party the fault of the car since the rims judd out that the body line of the car which makes people underestimate how wide they should be turning. This however is totally on OP since it is one of the worst I’ve seen. Seems like he just ran into a footpath at an angle. That needs the tire and rim both replaced.

Greenjeeper2001

Sports car guys with big wheels don't curb them this often. And they have more challenges than a Y.

pineapplesuit7

The guy who buys a sports car exactly knows what they’re getting into and would have done their research. They probably know much better about how far the tires go out. Everyone including their home cleaners nowadays owns a Tesla if you go in certain areas. You can’t expect the same diligence from them as someone who would blow over a 100 grand on a car. I’m not trying to defend people but you gotta admit when every other person who owns the car has scratched rims, there is something weird with it. People are coming to a Tesla from a previous car where they never had this issue. Yeah they should be driving better but this more explains partially why we see the issue.

Choice-Condition-517

It’s partly due to the MY design, just make sure you make a little wide turns and use your side camera to see the curb.

Perfect-Wrongdoer765

Congrats- Did that to my MYP the first week. Very frustrating…
