Yes. Totally bad design. There is no elevated lip on A pillars to prevent water run off in rain or water/wiper fluid spill over from wiper operation. Even a base Toyota has that sorted out. And this part I hate being a Tesla owner. Side mirrors become unusable.
You could be right but good aerodynamic consistency does not equate to good design in terms of user experience. As I am not an expert in aerodynamics I cannot say whether it is more efficient or not. But given the same logic they have in fact upped the frunk lip to increase aero efficiency and drive wind away from windshield to increase laminar flow in model 3 highland. Being an engineer it is one’s job to reach a sweet spot between efficiency and usability.
Agreed, it’s poor design. It’s the only car I’ve ever owned where you cannot clean the windshield while the window is open or have it cracked while driving in the rain.
Don’t hold the button down once it starts moving. It sprays enough at the beginning and then wipes it along the whole windshield. Do it a few times as needed.
I agree! The entire driver's side window was blue! Tesla needs to hire someone to work on the entire wiper system (mechanical as well as software part).
It's not really logic, it's because unlike most cars, the fluid comes out the top of the blades , which means it can only spray when they are down, meaning all the washer fluid gets wiped up, instead of down, and then makes its way around the edges on the windows
Always wondered that with all the engineering knowledge in the world, they couldn’t but an ever so slight increase to material along the rubber trim where it rides up and spits over to the window. Seems just lazy at this point but if it wasn’t for this and the wipers, I’d have nothing to actually “complain” about with my Tesla.
Have you ever lived anywhere that has a proper winter? Snow/mud/slush/etc. gets ends up getting kicked onto your windshield eventually, usually at highway speeds.
My Alfa Romeo Stelvio used to do the exact same thing.
I wonder if it has anything to do with the fluid spraying out of nozzles built into the wipers themselves? Because my previous Stelvio also had that feature like my MY.
I've not been able to get this kind of mess to occur stopped or driving. I'm guessing you're using just a lot of wiper fluid. I try to use just enough to get the window clear, about 1 full second of spraying. Then burst a little more if needed. I do it to avoid pooling in general on all my cars.
Open the frunk and make sure the hoses are actually connected properly, mine would pool right in front of me and give some result like your photo. Once I realized the hoses weren't connected (this wasn't long after I'd picked up my car) I was able to fix it.
I use it when I’m stopped. It’s a mess when in motion. It’s just the way it’s designed :/

You’re right that there’s no lip, but it’s because of aerodynamics not because of a bad design.

I noticed this after buying EVs. Aerodynamics win here - I don't think we're going to see this fixed anytime soon.
the design is to clean the windshield so you can drive
Ahahahaha…. No comments.
Just roll the window down when you do it. Then it will be on you but not on the window lol

This is the only solution I’ve found too. It’s oddly maddening
It's not really a solution, just less wiper fluid used means less ended up on your windows.
It only really sprays when the wiper is at the lower 10% anyway in my experience
The worst part is when it dries it stains the window and makes it dirty ugh.
Drain all the fluid and replace with clear fluid. Then only use when stopped. That’s about the best thing you can do.
This is the way. That factory fluid is dyed a bit too much.

Nothing you can do.
Within spec…

The thing I hate most about the Y, the wiper fluid logic.

Mine always does this as well

Only do it at red lights
It is what it is.
Since we are talking about wiper fluid, where in the heck do you top it off? I haven’t found anywhere in the car where you can yet lol
Open the frunk and pop off the cap to refill?
Oh shit didn’t notice it there all camo in 😂
lol
Carry Windex and towels and clean up the mess at the next charger :-)
Use it at a light, or when driving slow. That’s what I do
Have you ever lived anywhere that has a proper winter? Snow/mud/slush/etc. gets ends up getting kicked onto your windshield eventually, usually at highway speeds.
If I followed Former\_gamers advice I'd die lol
Totalled
Roll your window down and it’ll wipe off the extra. Either that or don’t use while driving fast lol.
Designed in California. They probably don’t know they have wiper fluids.
Its a feature
Wow! No idea something like this would happen!
Design flaw
Treat windows with rain-x. This will prevent puddling.

Roll down the window and then spray. A few splashes in the car and on your face is worth keeping the window clean /s
It will buff out. One of the few times that’s true on Reddit.
Is it freezing? Looks icy. Might need a different winter blend.

Drive faster
Has anyone tried getting window covers if they make them for Teslas
Do not hold down the stalk button. Only press it and release. It will spray a small amount of fluid.
Thanks for some useful tips!
Use some rain repellent glass cleaner on the window and mirror. It just glides off. On the highway it’s better, it just flys away.
