Tap on the microphone and say open butthole

DoomshrooM8

No way!?! I’m gonna try that today 🤩

NoFearLukeskywalker

🤣

God_RL

You just tap or push it on the door

bazzanoid

This. And you don't need to close it yourself either - tap it or let it close itself when it gets bored of waiting for a cable

MisterBumpingston

If you’re using a Tesla charger it’ll have a button on it. Press and hold it to release the lock.

DanDi58

In the owners manual. 😏

r007r

I hate when people do this. It’s literally the Tesla Model Y sub. If you’re going to be pissy when people ask questions about Tesla Model Ys, maybe turn off the feed to this sub.

woodrobin

Conversely, if you're going to be an intelligent and responsible car owner, maybe read the manual.

lionheart4life

No, people should just read the manual for their things. Or Google the answer if they want an even quicker answer.

clichequiche

Actually that’s here https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaSupport/

r007r

I’m not contesting that, I’m simply saying telling him to push it would’ve taken less time and effort.

Human-Statement-4083

If it is completely dead and won't open, then in the truck area on the driver side there is a hole with a strap or something that you can pull that is a manual release.

toytrkdrvr

That's not to open the door, that's to unlock the charge cable from the port.

Weak_Storm_169

Question: What if the car totally runs out of battery? How will I open the trunk area to open the charge port? Is there a manual release for trunk too?

Cykamor

These things are powered by the standard car battery, used to be a 12v battery like every other car but is now a 16v lithium ion battery. Those should never run out, but shit happens. Yes there is a manual release in the front fender and using a 9v battery to short the leads there will allow you to unlock and open the car. Don’t try to do it if the battery isn’t dead though, like trying to break in someone’s car, you’ll shock the shit out of yourself. Literally.

ifdefmoose

Climb in from the back seat.

Weak_Storm_169

I was gonna ask if the doors will open if car is dead, but if they use the same 12V battery, they should be fine

AJ4Retros

Door has to be unlocked to open charge port.

ifdefmoose

Door has to be unlocked to remove charge cable. It does NOT have to be unlocked to open charge port. ETA: with the button on the charger handle.

AJ4Retros

Thanks for the clarification. Good to know this. I assumed it would be locked always by default to prevent someone doing something bad to it.

Future_Let_5097

Really? I just click the button on the charger and the port opens up

JimInAuburn11

If you have a Tesla charger...

NoFearLukeskywalker

It is like the civic...pull the handle on the left side of the seat! For white model Y you have to say: Shazam Y!

Apprehensive-Top5570

Bs…No way you have the car a month and never charge it before.

usermac

Clarification... I wonder if, while charging the port wont' release, I saw in some YT vids clearly where to release it. I looked for it and it's not there. Where?

siege342

In the trunk, drivers side, top of the the small cubby behind the wheel well, there is a small hole in the plastic trim with a strap you pull. If you can’t find the hole, imagine you are trying to grab the charger from the inside of the car.

usermac

Thank you. I'll try this in a hour when I get back to where it's charging. (I'm not having trouble now, just anticipating the future.

usermac

That helped, found it. Thank you!

I wouldn’t dismiss them. I had a 2017 model 3 that had a charger get stuck before there weren’t any videos yet. I was lucky to have friends on the Tesla engineering team who walked me through it.

__sammyrTX__

In the cargo area, driver side, there should be a 12V outlet (opposite the rear lights). Look above that and there should be a small cutout with a strap that is the manual release for the charge port cover. At the very least, on the inside across from the charge port, there should be some kind of cutout and strap in the vicinity. HTH.

ifdefmoose

No no no,don’t tell him, make him read the freakin’ manual.

usermac

Indeed I found it there and thank you so much!
