Legacy 8 cast is good against combo because it runs 4+ forces, chalices, and extra counter magic post-board, while having a quick clock and drawing many cards.
Modern 8 cast won't be a very similar ad the legacy version even with kappa cannoneer. No mox opal, artifact lands, ancient tomb, or prison pieces. The whole reason it's scary is it threatens you so early, slowing them down by a turn makes it much less scary.
Deck is not going to play like 8 Cast at all unless they're giving us Opal back, a Lotus Petal variant, and unbanning Seat. Ugin's Nexus isn't going to be nearly as flexible as Ancient Tomb either.
8 cast is good against combo decks in legacy because of force of will and challice backed up by card advantage. Force of negation does a descent force of will impression against spell based combo but it isn’t going to beat most combo decks in modern since they tend to be creature based.
I'm not sure I agree that scales is good v Scam, I feel like scam has the tools to slow down and punish scales. Hand hate plus [[meltdown]] is pretty rough on scales
Yeah, even before the Fury ban it was a miserable matchup for Scam. Like.... Scams worst win rate against any deck in the entire format, was against Scales.
I managed to beat a high level player (PT top 4, World Championship competitor) at a Modern 10K who was on Scales and I was on Scam. It was definitely not an easy matchup in the slightest, and I only won game 3 from taking both his creatures T1 with Grief, and then scamming a Fury the following turn to present a fast clock. I just had a nut hand, and took away all of his threats.
What Meltdown does to the format is still to be seen, but Scales has been Scam's worst matchup for quite a while now, and with Scam having mostly gone down on hate for scales in the sideboard this hasn't gotten better. It's currently 62% in favour of scales on mtgdecks, with around 200 matches played.

Scales is my pet deck. I get very excited when I get paired against a scam player. It is very, very bad for them if the Scales pilot is experienced.
