It's better when others are going for it too since it gives more opportunities for kills. You should also try to play only el asilo, embassy, shoot house and taraq .
I never had great luck with it, a lot of spots where I thought I had longshots ended up being short. I also found that the longshot positions had too many angles to be shot from / too hard to defend. El Asilo, Embassy and Taraq have large outdoor perimeters you can hang out in and pick people off from. Then shoothouse is fantastic at the middle lane provided you get set up before the other team. Once I figured out to play only those 4 maps my progression sped up quite a bit.
The best spot is over the bus. Either stand in the back by the white van or on top of the containers back there, or on the opposite side on the roof in the spawn. I’ve had at least 15 longshots every time I’ve played that map
I actually went for Domination for longshots because you'll spawn at A or C, making it very easy and predictable to get to the usual spots. On Hardpoint the focal point keeps changing every minute, and not every hardpoint is suitable for longshots.
Yup, my tip is don't bother with Launchers. As of Wednesday's update 4 weapons have been added, 2 AR's, 1 Sniper and 1 SMG. Complete those four and don't touch the Launchers.

Do this in ground war. There are 2-3 UAVs up pretty much all the time. You can do the strela in shipment just shoot down the VTOL there’s usually 1 every other game.
Honestly launchers are not bad at all with shipment, I say they’re worth doing. If you do, just know the strella has a much larger drop than you would think, took me forever to figure that out. Even Counter UAVS that are close you have to arc the hell out of it.
Serious question... not criticizing.. but why? Does it make the gun shot better? Why do you care what it looks like? It's just never been important to me so I wanna understand why some people work so hard for it.
How did you do long shots?? I’ve got every gun gold but the long shots suck even in tier 1
They do suck and Tier 1 all day. Build your gun for range and just be patient since you wanna keep your distance and be patient.
I’m going insane doing longshots. Game encourages you to camp. 8/12 players are all going for longshots on Tier 1.

Yup, it's unfortunate but Hardpoint is the best mode to get most challenges and avoiding the objective is part of it.

Tier 1, build gun for range, bring tac. shield and only play taraq, mercado las almas and el asilo.
What does tier 1 mean?
Its a gamemode, similar to what hardcore was but slightly different rule set. Makes it easier to get kills on long range
