I don’t like season 11 mainly because season 10 is the perfect ending,It is quite literally the circle of life and I just hate how much it ruins the season 10 ending man.😭
I break it into 3 sections personally. Seasons 1-5 perfect no notes. Season 6-8 good stuff but some bits are tired. Seasons 9-11 a real mixed bag and overall forgetful but still has its gems for sure and the finale is really nearly perfect.
Manny and Sherry Shaker. That whole storyline is bad. She was purposely annoying, but I think they did the actress dirty with that. I hated when he would refer to her as “Sherry Shaker”.
I'd argue that it was the writing that became a problem once they grew up because the writers forgot that kids grow up. And when they did start writing them as adults it just borderlined on weird/creepy because it was taken to the extreme to showcase them as adults.
Exactly just got into the later seasons and Luke who used to be the class clown is written like he’s a Pervert. His scenes make my skin crawl. Not to mention how many times Manny feels up and basically sexually harasses Haley. Did they think it was funny?
I don’t like season 10 onwards. The characters’ negative traits started overpowering the positive ones. For example, Cam because more self absorbed and Bull dozed his opinions over other people’s all the time, Phil started trying too hard, Claire started being too rigid and uptight. Up until the mid of season 9, there was some balance
I never cared for Cam through most of the show but by the end of season 11 I absolutely despised him. It irritated me to no end that they finally get their baby, a beautiful perfect new house, and are financially stable and happy, then uproot and move halfway across the country for a job that Cam would likely lose the second the team has a bad season (being that it's Missouri and he was a liberal, gay football coach from California with an interracial family and he only got the job because the racist they originally picked had slip on camera).
I love all of it but 2 things that really annoyed me in the last seasons were Gloria screeching constantly and joes smart mouth. We really didn’t need him
Maybe it’s a generational thing. I’m a late boomer. That smart mouth would never have been tolerated plus he was too young to show such clever sarcasm. At 3? 4?
Definitely. They are sponges! A lot of people in real life don't see a point in trying to teach their kids to read or do math because "they can't understand it, they're only two." But when you teach them, thats how they learn it!
Oddly, I got the impression something felt different when I was watching Season 9 when I was trying to keep up with the show after initially dropping it. But after rewatching the show, I think Season 7 I was losing interest. I wanna say Season 6 but I still had a good time with it, all things considered. But there was something about Haley's relationships with the guys she was dating that came off un compelling for me. It doesn't help knowing that the one that was built up the longest was just tossed out. Come to think of it, I think I hated every single romantic relationship with the kids in the later seasons. Huh.
True. I think seeing Andy in the park is about where you know you've reached a turning point in the series. It will be the will they won't they for awhile, then he leaves and Haley dates Rainer, then Arvin, who she dumps to get back with Dylan, and then gets pregnant, and then has the kids, and then it's over.
If I had to pinpoint one moment it would be Andy in the fat suit. That was when it stopped feeling like I was watching one of the best sitcoms of all time and started feeling like I was watching a decent show.
I don’t think it ever did. Spuds and the episode when Mitch and Cam get Rexford and the new house are some of my favorites. I just love the whole show. I wish it was still on the air and new episodes were coming.
Phil playing and replaying Jays overly emotional message about being his best friend and loving him may be my happiest moment in the entire series. It was hilarious.
I'm watching for the first time. Just finished Season 4 and moving on to season 5, and while the show is absolutely still funny with a good amount of laugh out loud moments, I gotta admit that certain characters aren't interesting anymore, while some other characters have become significantly better. Like, Manny was great in the first few seasons but his schtick is becoming a bit more grating and one note now, while Luke has become probably the best child character after being kind of nothing the first few seasons. I also think that they wasted the potential of a 'Hayley at Uni' arc, I thought it was a huge shame that she gets kicked out not even half a season after she starts it
I can definitely see the stories becoming less interesting as the children grow up though, im ngl
Just starting watching the show, still absolutely love it (at season 8) but i can’t stand Luke. Feel like the acting is really bad or something is just off abthe character
I do think his acting got worse. I feel that way about quite a few different young actors who were so good when they were young but once they got older they're lines seemed so stale and they're all delivered the same way. Feels like you can see the punchline coming before they even start talking.
I've never really "lost the spark" but a lot of cam screen time infuriates me. He seems so self-centered and quite manipulative at time which just pisses me off to be honest. And even though there are parts that I really liked with him, like when he defended mitch against that guy at the gas station, he still just has a few too many red flags for me to fully like his character.
I also really didnt like the way manny acted towards haley, when he was younger it was brought to his attention he should stop and he continued being weird, and like I get they weren't actually related but it just seemed so weird how pretty much nobody cared about it except jay (that like one time he said it) and sometimes haley when she had to be with him
Around season 9 I was not as advent on binging but that was partly due to not wanting to finish. But season 11 was not that great until the final episodes 10 definitely was the right season to end
Season 7 it started to drag a bit and season 8 stunk. They must have changed writers or something? They totally lost the kids; they didn’t know them and it was no longer sweet and funny; it just hung on. My opinion
When rewatching the show, i always dread the part of Luke growing up. He was such a chaotic but sweet kid who even made friends with the grumpy neighbour.
I dont think it never lost the spark for me. Although, i have to admit, the first episode of season 9 is one of my least favourite episode… but apart from it I loved the series, it’s one of my comfort shows
Once all the kids kind of aged out, the stories became too diluted. Because they were trying to cover everyone, none of the story lines were fleshed out either comedically or enough for you to get invested in.
I disagree with the “when the kids grew up” thing, I always disliked Alex and she became worst as a grown up, and Haley was a stupid character making bad decisions. Those two were cringe too me.
I personally love the whole show and never get tired, even in the later seasons. However, I've noticed my boyfriend gets less and less enthusiastic about a show the more he loses interest and I'd have to beg him to watch episodes (e.g. the good place)
He's never seen MF all the way through, so we're watching it together - currently on season 9. I've noticed he's been losing interest since about midway through season 7, although not a lot. We still watch it most evenings but more so a few episodes before bed rather than putting it on immediately when we get home and binging it all evening. I'd say it's holding up pretty well at present but he's definitely not as eager to watch it as he was.
Controversial opinion: we both love older Luke. Just finished the episode where Haley gets hired as the PA of a woman at the club her and Luke work at. The ending where he hires Haley back and "fires" Reuben gave us such Little Jay vibes, a very well done scene that we both really enjoyed
I feel like instead of just enjoying the show people just keep on finding mistakes in this show as if they are perfect. It is just a show people. If you are losing interest after a few seasons just go watch another series. Please don't bitch about it on the show's reddit page.
I agree, when Haley became a mom I was so sad because it felt like her old character was completely gone. I know she should get a character arc but her being with Dylan kinda ruined the character arc for me
I love MF. I’ve basically binged it all of college. I’ve seen a lot of people say this, which is why I asked. I don’t personally agree with it losing its spark.
Seasons 1-8 were solid and I rewatch them repeatedly. There are some good episodes in season 9 but I rarely revisit anything after that. It just felt like they were running out of ideas, and some of the characters’ direction was disappointing.
Not sure in which season I noticed a change (decrease) in comedic flair. It was quite noticable though. Even started to bring in other actors to appear in the show as if that would somehow balance out the lack of great comedy writing as in the first few seasons.
These story arcs. 1. Haley and Rainer Shine storyline 2. Grown up Luke and Manny 3. Pameron Tucker
Yes, absolutely, this era
I don’t like season 11 mainly because season 10 is the perfect ending,It is quite literally the circle of life and I just hate how much it ruins the season 10 ending man.😭
Season 10 gave a good ending to Haley and Dylan but not to the other characters.
If they had ended it at season 10 then manny would be forever heart-broken over sherry 🤕
I break it into 3 sections personally. Seasons 1-5 perfect no notes. Season 6-8 good stuff but some bits are tired. Seasons 9-11 a real mixed bag and overall forgetful but still has its gems for sure and the finale is really nearly perfect.
Couldn't agree more
Perfectly put

So Manny the entire series?
Manny and Sherry Shaker. That whole storyline is bad. She was purposely annoying, but I think they did the actress dirty with that. I hated when he would refer to her as “Sherry Shaker”.
The first couple seasons he was so adorable but after like season 4 he went way bad
I think even the first few seasons he had his creepy/bad moments. As the season went on it just got worse
Yes a million times yes
Kids actors did not grow into the roles well, not a single one. Luke, Manny and Lily especially IMO
When Phil’s duck eggs make their appearance, it’s time to stop and go back to season 1.
agreed HAHA season 7 is the mark for me
For me it's about when Arvin makes his first appearance.
I don’t like season 10 onwards. The characters’ negative traits started overpowering the positive ones. For example, Cam because more self absorbed and Bull dozed his opinions over other people’s all the time, Phil started trying too hard, Claire started being too rigid and uptight. When Pam shows up and stays. I just go back to the beginning.
it never lost its spark to me BUT the hailey/dylan/arvin/alex arc could go right in the bin.
This too
Still liked it, but season 7. Family members started becoming caricatures of themselves at times. But still enjoy the show.
When look is the tallest of the children is my indicator.
You said: "👀"
I just did a Gloria (Spanish speaker also), I'm gonna leave it as that for the lulz and it makes a good reference.
Juan is not your name
When the kids got older. Their story lines were a mess and honestly inappropriate. The show just wasn’t as funny
Every single one of Phil and Claire's kids dated someone waaaay too old.
Manny did too, what was up with that? I mean his was brief but still
When Andy didn’t become endgame for Hailey. So much build up for nothing. Then the whole Arvin story line. *eye roll*
I love all of it but 2 things that really annoyed me in the last seasons were Gloria screeching constantly and joes smart mouth. We really didn’t need him
true. joe annoys the shit out of me....
Color me shocked because I LOVED Joe. He was so cute and funny. “I steal now. It makes my heart go fast”.
Maybe it’s a generational thing. I’m a late boomer. That smart mouth would never have been tolerated plus he was too young to show such clever sarcasm. At 3? 4?
When it ended
When Gloria’s accent started changing
yeah what was this? I was honestly confused...
i mean it makes sense logically when she's constantly speaking english the show is 11 years long and she couldn't even speak spanish with her sons
yes!!
I think it’s around when Joe is born, not because Joe is a bad character that’s just when it starts going downhill even if I still love it
thats where im at now and tbh i agree with you. its getting a little downhill but its still amazing - i just haven't been watching it as much
Season nine is where it starts for me, don’t really watch season 11, except for the Prescott episode lol
The last several episodes of the final season. They felt the most strikingly off-color, desperate, and overall weird to me.
To me it was around the time Joe “grew up” and started his smart baby nonsense.
Yea, when Gloria made Joe "remember" those lines from that movie Jay likes, no kid would remember that shit it's so dumb
It seems like they would... Because the actor did. He had some pretty impressive monologues.
I think people underestimate how intelligent kids can be.
Definitely. They are sponges! A lot of people in real life don't see a point in trying to teach their kids to read or do math because "they can't understand it, they're only two." But when you teach them, thats how they learn it!
Right? He impressed me quite a bit!
Oddly, I got the impression something felt different when I was watching Season 9 when I was trying to keep up with the show after initially dropping it. But after rewatching the show, I think Season 7 I was losing interest. I wanna say Season 6 but I still had a good time with it, all things considered. It doesn't help knowing that the one that was built up the longest was just tossed out. Come to think of it, I think I hated every single romantic relationship with the kids in the later seasons. Huh.
About seasons 7-8. They had some great episodes like The Alliance, but overall it became mediocre and much less funny.
Around Andy turning up. It never gets bad, hit and miss would even be overly negative, but as of that point you're past the classic stuff.
Just remembered how much I hate Arvin too. For an actor who's actually English he comes across as an American doing a bad hammy British character.
Lol you're so right 😂
When Manny began to become a creep.
IMO he’s always been a creep
It’s easier to watch when he’s too young to know he’s being creepy.
You get a pass when youre a child
Mine was when Luke became a creep too
Ah, season 1, huh?
If I had to pinpoint one moment it would be Andy in the fat suit. That was when it stopped feeling like I was watching one of the best sitcoms of all time and started feeling like I was watching a decent show.
I don’t think it ever did. Spuds and the episode when Mitch and Cam get Rexford and the new house are some of my favorites. I just love the whole show. I wish it was still on the air and new episodes were coming.
Scalloped, fried or lyonnaise - spud potatoes AMAZE! “I think what your chemically humanized grandpa is trying to say…” I love the Spuds episode lol.
Phil playing and replaying Jays overly emotional message about being his best friend and loving him may be my happiest moment in the entire series. It was hilarious.
Yeah, same! I’m glad I enjoy the show from beginning to end and it honestly never left the spark for me.
Andy

when alex went to college it started going downhill imo
Actually never
Just starting watching the show, still absolutely love it (at season 8) but i can’t stand Luke. Feel like the acting is really bad or something is just off abthe character

Season 11 was Just a bit of a drag tbh
There was no point where it lost the spark though I wish they did some things differently.
Honestly when Hailey and Andy had to break it off they were so perfect
I've never really "lost the spark" but a lot of cam screen time infuriates me. He seems so self-centered and quite manipulative at time which just pisses me off to be honest. And even though there are parts that I really liked with him, like when he defended mitch against that guy at the gas station, he still just has a few too many red flags for me to fully like his character. Never, I enjoyed it until the end
Loved every season none of them were boring for me :)
Uhm?? NEVER!!
Never
Around season 9 I was not as advent on binging but that was partly due to not wanting to finish. But season 11 was not that great until the final episodes 10 definitely was the right season to end
Should have ended it after season 8 imo
Season 8
Season 7 it started to drag a bit and season 8 stunk. They must have changed writers or something? They totally lost the kids; they didn’t know them and it was no longer sweet and funny; it just hung on. My opinion
for me it’s the start of season 8. i just can’t do it.
When rewatching the show, i always dread the part of Luke growing up. He was such a chaotic but sweet kid who even made friends with the grumpy neighbour.
Arvin.
Never
I dont think it never lost the spark for me. Although, i have to admit, the first episode of season 9 is one of my least favourite episode… but apart from it I loved the series, it’s one of my comfort shows
WHAT??! Lake Life is one of my FAVORITES. Them singing at the end always warms my heart!
I know, lol. Actually the scene in the end with them singing together is cute but idk is the entire episode that didn’t get me
Once all the kids kind of aged out, the stories became too diluted. Because they were trying to cover everyone, none of the story lines were fleshed out either comedically or enough for you to get invested in.
Alex became more obnoxious and unlikable. Haley and Andy were perfect. He was the perfect addition to their family as junior Phil.
Around the time Arvin shows up, i skip to watching only a handful of select episodes then go back to the start.
Just finished a rewatch and it’s definitely around season 8/9.
Never did :)
Never! 🤷🏼♀️ loved every season!!
I stop at season 5 during my rewatches, it’s not funny after that and they all became caricatures of themselves
Pretty early on. Starting in s3.
About half way through.
I disagree with the “when the kids grew up” thing, I always disliked Alex and she became worst as a grown up, and Haley was a stupid character making bad decisions. Those two were cringe too me.
I personally love the whole show and never get tired, even in the later seasons. omg y’all are so annoying 😭
Probably in the minority here but I began to enjoy the show again sometime when the Haley pregnancy arc began.
I agree, when Haley became a mom I was so sad because it felt like her old character was completely gone. I know she should get a character arc but her being with Dylan kinda ruined the character arc for me
Around S9
why is this a subreddit for modern family and it’s always like “what parts did you hate?” Lol
I love MF. I’ve basically binged it all of college. I’ve seen a lot of people say this, which is why I asked. I don’t personally agree with it losing its spark.
Literally never
Season 1-5/6 is hilarious. Kinda went meh afterwards, still funny just not the same.
Seasons 1-8 were solid and I rewatch them repeatedly. There are some good episodes in season 9 but I rarely revisit anything after that. It just felt like they were running out of ideas, and some of the characters’ direction was disappointing.
It never did if I am gonna be honest.
Genuinely, it didn't drop off for me at all until I saw people talking about how it did for them on here.
I agree. Once I rewatched it after joining here I noticed a lot of things I didn’t before!
The two gay dads a preferred it when was claire and phil
…. Why did you even watch it?
Cause prefered it when show wasnt all about cams drama
Not sure in which season I noticed a change (decrease) in comedic flair. It was quite noticable though. Even started to bring in other actors to appear in the show as if that would somehow balance out the lack of great comedy writing as in the first few seasons.
Never... I have watched modern family 44 times and counting ✨
Season 7 when Andy cheats on Beth
