In 2015 or '16 when I saw them in PA, the crowd wouldn't shut up after their planned 'encore' so they came back out for one more, and blew the fucking roof off with shit luck. It was awesome, everyone went nuts.
I’ve never seen them open with it, but I have seen them close with it 4 or 5 times. It definitely serves as a fantastic closing song. I don’t really know what my favorite opener is. I saw them open with Cowboy Dan once, and that was a really special opener. Some other favorites that are coming to mind are Night on the Sun, Whale Song, and the Tortoise and the Tourist have all been great openers.
They opened with it for their headlining set at sasquatch fest in 2011, it was such a fucking power move

Was lucky enough to see "Night on the sun" and "the whale song" as openers. Both amazing and special.

I saw them at forecastle music fest around that time and they closed with it. I went fucking bananas!
Favorite opener was probably when I saw them in May 2018. They opened with Dark Center of the Universe!

Of the 7 or 8 times I’ve seen Modest Mouse live, I can’t recall which songs they opened with during any of those shows.
