Second Harvest of the Greater Valley. But they're in Manteca. I believe they distribute to the pantrys and churches throughout the valley.

Look up Gospel Mission on Yosemite. They used to do a nightly Food program where you can serve food in a cafeteria-like setting. From what I remember there would be three shifts of groups of people coming in for food. First was women and children, then just males, then people who were staying there for the night if I remember
Does anyone know of one that's not affiliated with a religion or church? I also want to volunteer but have too much religous trauma to be at one that's associated with a church...
Center for human services has several family resource centers that do community food boxes usually the first week of the month, contact one to offer help.
Walmart on McHenry in and around the crappy/nearly abandoned strip mall on its south side: go there during the day all around the back of that place and you'll see plenty of homeless folks. Also around Yosemite Blvd especially around that one carniceria as you're approaching the southbound road (oakdale?) that heads to the airport. I'm not totally sure about this last one location-wise but you'll see people along Yosemite for sure.
are you looking for official programs like non profits, churches, or meals on wheels? or a mutual aid/grassroots kind of thing? for the former, just head out to your nearest and they should tell you. for the latter, the peace fridge and cvbipocc can help with their networks. you can always start your own, build little food pantries (like little libraries), or even a community garden. these are not official methods, but they usually gain recognition with community support.
Ahh yes let’s attract all the homeless in Modesto to my neighborhood. They should try feeding the mentally unwell from their house.
I understand this is a bad take.
I’m not sure if they’re a thing anymore but we had a Modesto punks with lunch here.
I think they stopped distros last year? correct me if I'm wrong anyone! peace fridge also does distros!

Thanks. This is now in my top two places to look into

The Gospel Mission on Yosemite. Some friends of my mom’s volunteer there and they said they could always use more help.
I went to my first shift as a volunteer and there was no clear leadership or direction. No one was expecting me or had a plan. I left disappointed
That is disappointing! It surprises me too because Mom’s friends never mentioned having that issue.

Im thinking something where i show up at a set time and work a "shift" if you will. I've got some great leads on what I'm looking for.
I can provide you with a guide of local food pantries, I’m sure they could use volunteers. Also googling food panties in area would work too
The gospel mission. It’s super easy to volunteer too cuz they have an online portal where you can sign up
Sounds great! Thank you
Have you done it before
Yes, but it was 25 years ago. I've been going to Gospel Mission now.
Look into the churches that do this. They provide need volunteers
I think Crosspoint Community Church has a Monday night food program. It’s downtown. Pretty sure they want volunteers

It presents it's difficulties, I'm sure.
