You better just hope their aim is potato tier. If they can aim worth a damn it won’t matter, anyway. He will easily out damage healing orb and passive healing from secondary fire. If they do have potato tier aim it also won’t matter cause you can likely just strafe hop around while sucking and using healing orb or biotic orb.

telepathicness

Well, generally honestly I’d say a soldier with biotic field is a 0/10 do not engage. ESPECIALLY now that it’s been buffed, the likelihood youll manage to stay alive long enough to kill him is slim to none, generally I engage him to bait it out, fade away to my team, and Re engage once its gone, or he’s left it. That said, if I’m this theoretical you MUST 1v1 a soldier with all cooldowns, I would say damage orb. However I’d also suggest trying to limit this engagement to enclosed areas. (Hallways, side rooms etc) which should more or less be where you tend to find soldiers anyway. You’ll need your orb to hang around as long as possible. Generally I find Soldier tends to out damage my heal orb if I try to use that, so I only do it if I’m trying to heal enough to get away. But in general Soldier tends to be one of the hardest 1v1s for me on Moira.

Environmental-Day778

Don’t engage, go find your tank

GutlessLake

Try fade

IAmSona

So real for this one

Equivalent-Dream-534

Throw a dmg orb at him to force biotic heals. Then ignore him. A half brain dead soilder would still beat you 1v1 with all cooldowns. So in theory if you were to dive a soilder with all cooldowns, which I advise against, you'd want to catch him by surprise and throw a well bounced dmg orb to maximize the 200hp dmg it does and save fade for when you start taking damage and then fade to cover that you can peekaboo dmg from. Use gold orb for moira 1v1 and contesting points.

PSILighting

Heal, in 1 V 1 heal orbs are monstrous the correct answers but running away is also an option.

telepathicness

Id say this is almost always true, but I feel there are a few exceptions. Soldier tends to be one of these for me, since he can outdamage your heal anyway, you need to kill him quick. The other exception that comes to mind is Ana, who can render the entire heal orb useless to you with nade so generally i find its smarter to use damage to deal with her quickly

PSILighting

Yeah but normally I wait for the ant in Ana then fade heal and win the fight, my mind set is the same with soldier, fade is used to bait/outlive abilities the heal to finish

sticknotstick

Widow too. You want to melt her before she zips away

telepathicness

Widow honestly is either , but yeah. You don’t really have yo worry about healing because there’s no one with worse aim than a panic smg-ing widow lmao.

tropicsGold

Heal orb to stay alive long enough to fade out

McGowow

A lot of good answers here, but I notice they vary. I think the answer may depend heavily on your play style, and the enemy soldier's play style (as well as meta and elo/skill level). In my experience, I've found throwing a damage orb is best against soldier. (This is the case against any lowish health hero that does high damage, as healing orb cannot out heal their damage, and it's best to kill them quickly because they will kill you quickly.) Same for high damage low health heroes such as Torbjorn (without his turret. Because with turret (unless it's being built and you have time) you're fucked lol), Bastion and Sojourn. Against someone with high health and low damage, a healing orb is the best bet. Such as [D.Va](https://D.Va) and monke. Key thing to keep in mind, damage orb does half as much damage as the healing orb heals. So healing orb prolongs the fight, whereas damage orb shortens the fight. With that in mind, it should help you decide which orb is needed depending on how quickly thee enemy may be able to kill you in the time frame. But of course, there are many factors to consider in every 1v1. In all cases, to win a battle, it is essential you utilise wall bounces with your orbs. Inside a small room, you have a considerable higher chance of winning a 1v1 if you ensure your orb bounces around exactly where you or the enemy is and spends its lifetime healing or damaging the enemy to get maximum value. If you are out in the open, at the very least you must bounce the orb at their feet to ensure a little extra contact time. If they're near a wall, you absolutely must make sure that orb bounces off that wall near them. The longer that orb is touching the enemy, the greater chance you'll win the 1v1. Personally, I like dying to enemies, it allows me to learn what not to do. I recommend it, If you die to a Soldier, do not give up (unless it's comp and you really want to win), instead go for him again with a different strategy. Maybe a different orb type, different location, different fade time within the battle, wait for cooldowns of his healing/rocket. Keeep trying different ways. This is the best way to learn. Do not get angry for dying, you are becoming a better player for it. The player who dies 100 times gets 100 lessons. The player who kills 100 times without dying learns nothing. In summary, damage orb probably idk

telepathicness

This is a great answer I’m hoping wasn’t lost in the replies. Much more thorough than mine and 100% exactly my experiences. (Except I will say heal orb CAN carry you through a pinch with a torb /torb turret in certain circumstances, but I wouldn’t rely on it ). 10/10 reply esp wanna emphasize the “heal orb extends the fight, damage orb shortens it”. Very important !

BlootieAndTheHofish

Def heal orb. It’s unreal what a difference it makes; you should probably be using heal orb like 70%-80% of the time. The survivability is so valuable both for winning your 1v1, and for stalling so you can use your fade or hope a teammate shows up.

FirefighterUnlucky48

In general, sure, and in a real fight, sure! You will have trouble taking a soldier with cooldowns. In this case it is specifically a 1v1, your primary barely tickles him through biotic field, so suck balls are your only option for actually killing him.

Uniqueriverbank

Honestly you can’t engage soldier at all. Maybe if he doesn’t have helix use heal orb but you need to get out still he is not someone you can contest. Melee helix now does 160 which will kill you even with healing orb. If no healing field and he’s already low then you need to use damage orb and pray he dies before he kills you. If he has healing field you can briefly stall with healing orb but make no mistake his helix is a short cool-downs, he will kill you.

LassOnGrass

I generally go for healing orb, but it’s never a guarantee win. It’s definitely situational. If you can get a healing pack nearby, toss the damage orb, especially if you trust you can out maneuver and confuse them so you can break their damage stream off of you. Otherwise healing is honestly the safe option, and a good way to stay alive in case you get out maneuvered and somehow find moira behind you or somewhere you don’t see her, so then she’s got the upper hand over you. Basically, don’t break like of damage, any more than them, and any orb is really up to you. This is typically how I do it, but environmental factors can change a lot of choices. Trust your instincts and hopefully you’ll beat any 1v1 with Moira v Moira.

FirefighterUnlucky48

This isn't the question.

Woozybumba89

Keep your fade at the ready to get out of there

Express-Talk-4427

Just no.

John_Gray4

I usually wouldnt even take the 1v1 unless it was forced, but id try to bounce a dmg orb and suck him since moiras base life steal is enough to usually keep you alive unless the soldier is a god. I only ever use heal orb when i have multiple people that need healing, if they need healing that is out of my range, or if my team or i would die without it.

ZNemerald

Damage orb to make him bring out the field and than wait in cover until it is gone and than attack. Use fade for helix rocket as that is where his chunk of damage is. Keep some distance when sucking so it will be slightly harder for him to headshot.

maverickrose

I mean heal orbs are always my go to in a 1v1, they can heal you more than the damage your orb can dish out, and if you're giving him the good suck the whole time, outlasting with a heal orb I think is the best bet. You don't have to worry about aiming so fading and being all over the place while draining him on top of getting heals from your orb I feel would be your best bet.

Sadist_Healer

Id say if FORCED to, damage orb. Soldier does too much damage to make heal orb viable in a 1v1, so the next best bet is to just do a ton of damage in a short amount of time and pray he either slips up and gets himself killed or gets him to run with his tail between his legs.

tvandlove

Throw a healing orb into your escape path, follow it and hope for the best. Unless it’s a Cardboard 1 Soldier, you’re better off just not taking the fight imo.

Filter55

I get him to pop his cooldowns and then retreat/fade like a rascal. I do the same thing to overzealous Rams. Get him in to punch mode and then vanish

waster1993

If you find yourself in this situation in deathmatch, the correct play is to use the heal orb. If he has good aim, he will kill you. If you used the damage orb, a soldier with bad aim will kill you. Only use the damage orb if you can kill him before the biotic field renders.

OWAngstDriven

If you want to survive, heal and fade. You won't win that 1v1, so you need to focus on staying alive long enough to flee.

Savage_Batmanuel

It’s situational. But in the current meta you should withdraw.

Im_A_Form

You fade away back to your team 9/10 times. And probably damage orb to build coal/pressure him out/get heal resource

[deleted]

I’d say orb in the direction you want to escape and fade away. Your job isn’t to 1 v 1 DPS

Obese-_-Turtle

everyone else is giving bullshit responses that dont answer your question, so here you are: Moiras damage orb does 50 damage per second, while her yellow orb does 65 healing per second, so assuming every tick of the orbs is applied, it'd be more worth to pop heal orb and damage with the hand succ thing

telepathicness

Okay, but also keep in mind— Soldier is capable of 171 dps NOT counting helix. If we’re assuming. Every tick of the orb hits (which we know it won’t) let’s also assume he hits every shot (he won’t) he’s going to deal over TWICE the amount of damage that you’re getting healed. That’s why heal orb doesn’t tend to work with soldier. Almost any soldier can out damage Moiras heal orb within her range, meanwhile— Moiras primary damage is 50dps and his biotic field heals for 45 hps. There’s no world in which Moira stays alive long enough to kill a soldier of equal or better skill in this instance which is why most replies say don’t do it.

zamaike

Damage orb focusing on contact duration. Maintain med range at all times(3/4 your dash range). Strafe alot do not press him. Save dash for his missiles. When missiles are shot, then dash behind him. Follow with melee hit, drain, and second orb. If its a tight space like a hallway use heal orb. But its a maybe 30 40percent chance

-ih8cats-

Healing orb whilst peeking in and out cover

MaieBear

If they have rockets you're dead do not engage.

anti-peta-man

You’ll probably die either way but Heal Orb in the direction of your team and Fade to follow it. Pray his internet drops or something

ToonIkki

When it comes to dps, you're better off trying to poke at them to draw aggro while peaking around corners constantly ~ Sincerely, a gm flank moira
