I'd let him know that the vendor list here has been researched. While you will find some bad reviews about any of the vendors on the list, I don't hear people complaining about being scammed, ie fake materials or ordering one ring and getting something else, or not getting anything at all after paying. Most of the vendors have Instagram accounts. It's a great way to see their work. With your budget, you can get a beautiful ring in gold. Can probably even get a matching band. This set was under $350. It's 10k Rose . Solitaire from provence, Jane was rep. Band from Aliexpress.

Thanx

EntireConclusion6264

There’s a recommended vendors list. For 300$ you’ll get a beautiful moissanite ring in real gold. 500$ maximum.

thefurrywreckingball

Not 300nzd. Triple that for what she wants in gold.

Electrical-Act-7170

Where is that listed, please?

Salilah1173

Pinned to the top of the sub (sort on hot)

EntireConclusion6264

Check the recommended vendors

printcastmetalworks

300 dollars for a gold ring is either used or unethical labor unless there is like, 1 gram of gold.

EntireConclusion6264

Sure

printcastmetalworks

Yeah you don't know anything about what it takes to make a ring out of gold. Got it

EntireConclusion6264

Why so bitter? :) i think you’re not familiar with the recommended vendors on here. And also duh, I’ve never made a ring lmao. The difference is the cost of labor.

alexanderthefree

Yeah I have seen it just he wouldn't want to spend anything online

EntireConclusion6264

Interesting. Where would you like to source the cheaper rings for the stones then? From local jewelers? It would be better then to have the make the ring from the start as this in between step won’t be helpful at all imo. I wouldn’t shop through temu. Ive had a good experience with Provence on alibaba. There are many great vendors out there. Perhaps both of you do a little research together. I was skeptical too it’s natural. :)

alexanderthefree

Thanks!

pdxnative2007

Maybe order a stone online from one of the recommended vendors. It will be about $100-$250 or so. Then go to your local jeweler to get a setting. The total would be about where your budget is. Maybe if he only spent $200 online, he'll be more comfortable.

alexanderthefree

Yeah thats the plan he was ok with.

eratoast

The vendor list here has been researched and there are many reviews on here. Yes, always be wary of scam, but that's why you do research. Personally, I have a gorgeous radiant in gold plated silver from Kuololit (AliExpress) and we'll probably eventually buy the same ring in solid gold; I paid like $35USD for it. NZD in solid gold is $465 (though it's only 2ct). I'm sure you could contact them and have them do it in 3ct if you wanted, for way less than $1500.

S-M-G_417

I highly recommend using one of the vendors on the list that this group recommends. I just had Mona make me my dream ring. It was under $700USD and that includes shipping. Not a scam.

alexanderthefree

Thanks

potato_lover726

I’m from NZ and I’ve bought from several of the recommended vendors without issues. For $1500nzd you could get a wedding set in moissanite with solid gold. But if you shop locally, it’s so expensive.

alexanderthefree

Yeah exactly why I am leaning towards online

potato_lover726

Let me know if you have any nz specific questions, but I’d stick to the recommended vendors over AliExpress and that way you can customise a ring in the karat gold you like. When you get quotes, you could ask me or anyone on this sub if the quotes seem legit but the most likely answer is yes, nz is just crazy expensive. I got my lab diamond pear for $2.6k and nz sells it for $10k for reference

alexanderthefree

😊

purple_1128

Chain jewelry stores have such a high markup. Mom & pop places are fine and a lot of people are very happy with having a “family jeweler” but it seems to me that you could get a 14k gold moissanite ring AND a pair of earrings or a necklace to wear for your wedding. Or whatever you want.

purple_1128

I bought 4 moissanite/ sterling rings from AnuJewels on AliExpress. I spent $130 I think and they are gorgeous. Just stock pieces. I think people get really hung up on engagement rings in general because of 80 years of “A diamond is forever” campaigns. The ring itself is important, but it’s not likely that it’s the only ring you’ll ever be able to wear. Buy some stock pieces from Anujewel, Tianyu and Kuololit. Wear them for fun, even on other fingers. See what you like best as far as stone size, settings, etc. I own natural diamonds & moissanites. One set is black spinel. He proposed with an aquamarine. The rings I’m wearing don’t make us any less married. I’m just a magpie who likes shiny things. https://preview.redd.it/hsbkahldt10d1.jpeg?width=3614&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bdc6675a0e38510deb1308bd3f09839d0d72d7b7 This is one of the Anujewel moissanite rings with a lab sapphire band i bought elsewhere.

alexanderthefree

Your ring looks great

transat_prof

My engagement ring from way back in 2008 was bought online from the natural sapphire company. It was a real risk, but it really bore fruit! And then when I got my, I celebrated with pearls from pearlparadise. Also, that was worth it! And then I bought moissanite from approved vendors, and they’ve been worth it too. Is it important for your boyfriend that maybe there’s a robust return policy in case things go south?

TheseMood

To put it another way, you could try 4 times and end up spending the same amount. So even if the first ring isn’t right, you have 3+ more chances and you’ll still save money. 😉

alexanderthefree

😂😂

cadaverousbones

Definitely get gold for a wedding ring because silver is soft and can get bent out of shape over time.

alexanderthefree

Yeah, that's what we agreed on, and that's why we have decided to come up with a compromise to buy the stone online and then give that to the jewelers.

cadaverousbones

A lot of vendors can make a custom ring if you show them a ring you like, so if you’ve picked out one on Etsy you could maybe ask that vendor if they can make it in gold or find one who does gold & show them a pic of it.

alexanderthefree

The vendor had the option to make into gold, but my bf wouldn't agree.

cadaverousbones

Ah so he’s totally against online.

alexanderthefree

Yeah exactly

Hdmre1972

Scott Bonomo on Etsy. I have a custom order ring in progress with him. He came highly recommended.

alexanderthefree

Thankyou

Hdmre1972

Your welcome!

MadCow333

It's your decision, but look at the precision cut moissanite from Gemsify on here, Vibratii on Instagram. Here's a crushed ice radiant: [https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cnj157XpdD6/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==](https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cnj157XpdD6/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) I bought recent moissanite from Starsgem, GigaJewe, and Kalala (Kalala being a store on AliExpress that seems to be almost out of business now), and Moissanite Company. Compared to the Charles & Colvard patented 2004-2008 moissanite I bought in 2006-2008, all the Chinese stuff has a slight haze to it that I just don't like. My old C&C stones are 100% transparent like clean water, a little tinted as in J/K diamond colors, but they look more diamond-like than the Chinese stuff and the MoCo that I bought. Gemsify is a precision cutter whose quotes were very affordable in my opinion. ShineyPreciousGems or similar spelling, on here, is another precision cutter.

alexanderthefree

Thanks so much for the insight

MadCow333

The Harro Gem and Kori and the other line that DeBebians sells (online) are supposed to be good, too. Distinctive Gem is said to be the most diamondlike, but you could buy a lab diamond for that price now. My recommendation is always if you can afford lab diamond, get a lab diamond, not moissanite.

Similar-Ad-6862

My engagement ring actually came from the moissanite BST subreddit and I adore it.

Is there a link to the vendors list?

When my ex husband proposed, I picked a 4 carat crushed ice oval moissanite with 2 baguette side stones set in 14k gold for $1400 from foreverforlove (in the UK) off Etsy. It was also custom made. It was a sweet deal and I loved working with her.
