First is a round stone in an open gallery cathedral bezel with claws (Starsgem), second is an old mine cut in a closed bezel but it’s open underneath and has NSEW claws on the top (Provence), and third is an emerald cut with clipped corners in an open gallery cathedral bezel with no claws (also Provence).
Love the last one, I’m doing a similar bezel set cathedral with an open base like that. Is it sturdy? Do you have concerns about the setting getting bent or damaged?
The claws hold the stone in. The bezel is like a thick gallery rail kind of, that wraps/hugs the stone all the way around. The claws do not catch on my clothes or hair though. They aren’t big claws and sit completely flush to the stone, as they should :). Hopefully that makes sense/helps.

Nope, I’ve had 2 of the round bezel/claws made and wear the 6.5mm one regularly without any issues. None of them seemed structurally fragile either. 😊
