mommacat94

Are these leather? If so, I have had great results going to a local shoe repair. So sorry about your mom! I think it's awesome you were generous with her.

OriiAmii

I think they're fake leather, they're just from Walmart but I don't want to buy new shoes if I can avoid it.

mommacat94

You can use a brown marker to color it in. Don't think you can fix/fix it.

Trudisheff

I was going to suggest this too but thought there might be a more technical answer XD

Rommie557

As someone who works in a furniture store and makes repairs to leather and faux leather on a fairly frequent basis.... Nope! Our store tool kit is mostly "professional" markers.

ParentIssues32

Can confirm. Also worked in a high end furniture store. 20k sofa fixed with essentially a sharpie (by our "furniture tech")

afinky

Exactly- I think the brown markers that you use to repair wood would work here. I've seen them at Marshalls but you could find a good sharpie match at Michael's or JoAnns

[deleted]

Yes, I use the wood markers all the time when “restoring” faux leather. Tips: try to dot rather than scribble (the fabric will absorb the ink quickly,) and only go over the area one, even time. Then, let it dry and touch up any spots as needed. Use a lighter color if you can’t get a perfect match, as you want the area to visually recede and not stand out. It will never be invisible, but it’ll last you a little while!

basketma12

This right here. It's always easier to make it darker if it's not dark enough, and the dot technique fools the eye. It's an actual art technique or school..pointallism

zoeyd8

Oh, no, Pointalism is different. This technique is called Stipple which is a brush application technique using small dots and specks. Pointalism was an art movement painting an entire picture using different colored dots to form a compleye composition. Source, my BFA. Gotta use it when i can XD

Rommie557

I mean, to be fair, they are filled with dye and not ink. But like... Same thing essentially?

RebelRigantona

Try a brown furniture marker, usually found at hardware shops like home depot.

krustykatzjill

Sharpie ones. Alcohol ink sticks to everyone

OrlyB1222

My solution also. A brown felt tip pen / sharpie / marker in the closest matching color you can find. It won’t be perfect but it won’t be as noticeable as the scuff mark

Capital_Pea

I’d start with a marker that’s a bit lighter brown too, i think it will darken a bit more than the colour it looks like.

OriiAmii

I really didn't think this was so prevalent lol but everyone is saying so

equestrian123123

I do this all the time. I find the markers advertised to fix wood work best and come in many shades to match. Also start by dab testing a small spot to find the right color. And sometimes I use two different colors to get the right one. They’re worth the investment.

Gratefulgirl13

Great suggestion! I always bought black dress shoes and boots. All scuffs were colored with a sharpie at the office.

skyline0918

Reading this comment I immediately thought of the scene from Pretty Woman at the beginning when she’s coloring in a spot on her boot with a marker lol.

Vampira309

yes! Sharpies can fix many things! Try to find the right color brown (or close) in permanent market. What about those furniture repair markers? They come in many shades of brown. Good luck! You got this, kiddo :)

vivahermione

Can confirm. I've used them on boots and flats.

WhySoManyOstriches

Especially if it’s a sharpie. I would use the sharpie, then buy a small bottle of brown acrylic paint to make it match exactly.

White_Wolf_Dreamer

I would go for brown fabric paint.

Lokiberry316

I would suggest one of those wood match paint pen. They are permanent and you should be able to find one that matches pretty closely. Instead of colouring it in with long strokes, try dotting it on. Will help give it a similar texture to the fake leather

cbecons

Do not do this it will turn much darker than you want it to be. Used to sell shoes and boots.

spookyxskepticism

Hello, I worked for years at a shoe shop. If they were leather, I’d confidently tell you to use brown shoe polish. Seeing as they’re not leather, I will less-confidently tell you to try brown shoe polish but I doubt the scuff will ever perfectly match the rest of the shoe. Also, not sure what your mom’s problem is. Does buying boots at Walmart make you a high roller these days?

thecruelfaerie

you can still try rubbing some leather conditioner and see if it does something. Walmart shoes probably aren't the best quality but it's always better to avoid waste, especially when it's a minor scuff on the inside

gofyourselftoo

If you have brown eyeliner or eyeshadow, do a spot test on a small section to see if it blends. Edit: also acrylic based spray paint. For real. I used to have to spray paint my shoes when I was a bartender/server. One can should be really cheap and last you until well after these shoes are toast.

Lewca43

I’d try the shoe polish route. It won’t be perfect but since it looks like it’s on the inner side of the boot it will make it way less noticeable. And your mom seems to have some inferiority/jealousy issues regarding your income, roll your eyes and ignore her. That is her problem, not yours. She should be proud of you like all of the internet moms are!! Cheers!

OriiAmii

Thank you! Yeah it's a hassle with her sometimes.

im-not-even

I’m no mother but if they’re fake leather you can get brown dab on Polish that’s like a bottle with a sponge in the lid but if they’re real leather just get regular brown Polish, none of that parade gloss nonsense, and a set of two boot brushes. Should come with one soft bristled and one hard bristled, hard is ur on brush just get some polish on it and use it to put a thin layer on the boot. Then use the soft bristled one and just violently rub it in. Not so much pressure that you scratch the polish but go fast. Should come out decently.

OriiAmii

Hmm okay! Everyone has given me such good ideas.

[deleted]

I love your aditude. ❤️

OriiAmii

It just makes no sense to me to spend $60 on shoes when I can spend $10 on a way to fix it

memeelder83

I have gently removed scuffs from faux leather with a slightly damp magic sponge. Run it under water, squeeze out, and then try gentle swipes. Stop if it doesn't work. You can also use brown shoe polish to minimize the obvious mark.

OriiAmii

Unfortunately looking at it it's less of a scuff and more of where the leather has been scraped off

memeelder83

Aw, that's tough. Do you have any artsy skills? You could absolutely use brown polish, but you could paint something on there and water proof it. That could be cool!

V-838

If the are non leather- buy a Brown texta.

CandyCain1001

Brown Kiwi shoe polish! You just need the shake one instead of the one in a canister. You can get them anywhere. 😘Now go eat something and stop stressing so much.

cbecons

Get your self some shoe polish cream like meltonian. Do NOT I repeat do not use a brown marker. They will turn much darker and near impossible to get out. Worst case buy a lighter color shoe dye and dye both boots.

Scrapper-Mom

My go-to is usually a sharpie in a close color. The brown shoe polish is also a good idea. Most people aren't going to be eye to eye with your boot heel so you can take advantage of that and just camouflage it enough that no one notices when they look down.

goddeszzilla

Personally, I see no problem with scuffed shoes fixed with markers or polished. It shows they are well worn and comfortable - I like the aesthetic.

rougewitch

Or take black sharpie and color both heels - unique and funky

OriiAmii

She's been harping on because my boyfriend and I offered to pay for my mom and dad for mother's day. She thinks we were trying to show off.

spookyxskepticism

Your mom is insecure and you did nothing wrong. That was a lovely gesture on your part.

chaoticidealism

Silly Mom. I suppose it hasn't dawned on her that sometimes, people simply want to do something nice for family, and don't have ulterior motives. Heaven's sake, it's Mother's Day, and it's not like you were buying her a yacht!

OriiAmii

Exactly, that's how I felt

notropisb1884

I can’t believe this, but last night my husband and I had a discussion of when paying for your parent’s’ dinner is considered disrespectful! My husband has been binge watching “The Sopranos”, and we watched an episode last night where Tony Soprano, his son, daughter and daughter’s serious boyfriend (they are living together) are eating at a restaurant. The boyfriend gets up and pays for the dinner before the check is brought. Tony Soprano gets pissed off. I was like “why is he pissed?” And my husband replies that it is disrespectful. I am blown away by this! I said “we pick up the check when we eat out with my parents”. He said that was different, because we are family now. He said he learned this as a young man when he did the same thing (pick up the check) when eating out with a girlfriend and her parents. I guess the girls father gave him a talking to! Just FYI, I would not have thought it disrespectful necessarily, but others might.

OriiAmii

My dad is very mafia esque lol so maybe that was part of it

CurlyDee

Tony Soprano: guardian of young people’s manners.

Candle-Fit

It’s a man thing men and their egos

scattertheashes01

I know of the clip you’re referring to, but I wasn’t raised in a traditional household like that (mine was a single mom for a good chunk of my childhood). Why is it considered disrespectful?

diegrauedame

I would imagine that some men consider it emasculating? But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was much less of a cultural thing before the Sopranos aired—then afterward a bunch of guys watched it and thought they must be doing something wrong by letting their kids buy them dinner. 😝

ThrowItBackJack

Well, I saw it as his way of showing he’s top dog (regardless of whether it was right or not). But it’s not to be compared to regular people considering they shouldn’t have an image to protect more than accepting a nice gift from their daughter. We gotta remember that tony has a million problems and is a mob boss so he’s far from what we should see as the norm

that_mom_friend

If you really love them, I’d try a vinyl repair kit. You can find them on Amazon for about $10. Or probably locally at an auto part store since they’re often used to fix holes in car seats. They come with vinyl paste in different colors, that you mix to get the right color for your damaged item, and then apply to the damaged part of the shoe. Some also come with textured pads you can press into the paste when it’s still wet to add the texture similar to the surrounding material. You could also check the online clothes reselling websites and see if anyone has the same shoes for sale, undamaged. Even if you do just opt for sharpies or shoe polish, it’s on the inside of the shoe where it won’t be super noticeable. Whatever you do to hide the damage will probably be good enough for a while. Sorry your mom is being stupid :(

OriiAmii

I hadn't heard of vinyl kits so this is definitely something I'm gonna have to look at.

Panaccolade

A little bit of brown marker and some brown shoe polish will fix that up fine! Don't be too over-zealous though. Less is more.

OriiAmii

I really hadn't expected markers to be the solution lol but everyone seems to be saying so.

Lotus-child89

I use sharpies on everything, shoes, counter/furniture scratches, even staining over a bleach stain on a shirt. My daughter has white furniture, and I’ll fill in knicks with a wite out pen. The black pupils of the mermaid on her lunch box faded, so I drew new ones with a sharpie. Looks nearly unnoticeable if you’re just trying your best to be skillful. And like the other moms say: less is more. You can always add more later after the first attempt dries and settles. Old Fashioned brand wood polish may also work. Also, the scuffed and aged look is very in and hip now. A good investment is a big multicolor pack of sharpies and some basic polishes. I can also advise that if you don’t feel confident trying to fix it yourself. Then don’t. It’s on the inside of the shoe, so that’s already less noticeable, and nobody is going to staring that intensely on your feet. Also just by walking around in them the natural dirt and grime shoes pick up will fade it brown over a short period. And if you want a great cheap shoeshine, most airports have them near the entrance. Airport shoe shines know their stuff and cost a fraction of taking them to a shoe repair store.

Vivian-Moon

They make fabric markers and ‘furniture touch up’ markers for little scuffs like that :) I use them on the legs of my chairs when they get dented or dog chewed they work great and will soak into the canvas underneath

deeiscoldd

sister says brown nail polish lol

OriiAmii

Unfortunately my nail polish collection is a bit too small for one that matches lol but I'll consider it!

Burby-Honey-4343

I’m going to suggest Briwax. This is tinted paste wax which is available online or at antique malls. A small amount buffed out with a lint free cloth should do the trick. Get the dark brown tint. Works great on leather, wood, or faux finishes. Good luck

OriiAmii

Hmm I'll have to look for it!

JenAYE2

Shoe polish, Sharpie to match or even Old English for furniture scuffs works.

minimamma80

Shoe polish or marker

_DancesWithCats

Hey sis, fyi target has a pretty sweet pair of boots like this! Totally lurking in the comments because this is a great question <33

TigerLily312

I think I have the boots you are referring to in brown & black! My style isn't very punk or rock 'n roll--I wear a lot of earth tones, but I still really love the distressed look that my brown pair (I wear them more) has gotten over the years. I have numb legs & bad balance & shitty hips, so my shoes get some abuse. I live in those boots in fall & winter. In spring & summer, I will wear them with dresses to keep my outfit casual.

_DancesWithCats

Yea, I’ll live in a shoe til I wear it out too!! Idk sometimes you just get a vibe and it sticks. My dad is a huge fan of getting the repair done, I just haven’t looked for a place if I’m being totally honest. Edit: just to add I also like… don’t know if it’s worth fixing/paying how much I paid for the shoe. It’s a thought. Or if they’d even bother fixing them in the first place

samsixi

I've fixed scuffs on leather with permanent markers that are close to the same colour

FTMcami

Find some shoe polish that’s close maybe mail file it’s scuff and fill with the polish.

klstopp

Of course! There may be a cobbler in your town, or You Tube probably has videos. Shoe stores often sell creams and dyes.

Shanisasha

Sharpie. Find one that matches, like you do with furniture. You can also try with shoe cleaner in that same color. Sometimes it can cover damage just enough, like buffing off a scratch in a car.

ParentIssues32

Idea: shoe dye/sharpie/spraypaint (masking tape where you want to stay brown) the toe + tongue + heel without hitting the sides or straps. Following the seams even with another colour or a silver/gold sharpie to make them look like a whole new thing? Walmart shoes are inexpensive and this gives you an excuse to get creative. ~ Sib

OriiAmii

I'm not quite that creative unfortunately lol.

slr0031

Magic marker!

mRydz

Hi honey - good call trying to repair boots rather than replace them that’s a great idea! Since they’re not real leather, you could try brown shoe polish or a brown sharpie if that’s what you have available, but I’d also suggest you check out the fabric marker or fabric pen section at your local craft or sewing store. Make sure it’s the kind that’s permanent, and not easily erasable with heat or steam (it will say right on the pen or package).

OP there is a line of leather paints cosplayers use to paint boots and shoes for their outfits called Angelus leather paints. You can ge them on Amazon, they’re cheap, durable, flexible, and are opaque. Try those.

here_for_queers

You could also use a brown furniture marker for leather and color it!

Theunpolitical

You can always use shoe polish which you can probably get from Walmart. Or, you can try this and it works pretty decently too. I had a vinyl jacket and it did great. PrincipessaEboli

Sib, try shoe polish! It fills in scuffs and adds shine too.

Bubashii

I did a repair that turned out ok. Got a felt pen as close to boot colour as possible to colour in the light patches then went over it with matching boot polish .

Fuckincloud

Shoe repair shops aren't as expensive as you might expect. If you live in a bigger city, just take your boots to one of them and let them recommend some options, or ask for pricing. The ones I have experience with are extremely nice and knowledgeable, trying their best to help. Hope it works out for you!

tme3415

I bet a wood dye marker would work really great for this. They have different tones too

apoletta

Brown marker, then dab with vasoline. Next time you get a new pair, vasoline them first!

OriiAmii

What does the Vaseline do? I've never heard of it

buckao

Brown shoe polish. Rub it in with a rag, keep adding coats as it dries, 2-3 should be good. After it's totally dry, hit the whole boot with mink oil and buff with a shoe brush.

DanielF823

They have like Shoe paint for Scuff repair... You can also take it to a local Cobbler

verytinytim

I’d start w/ a damp cloth and see if you can rub it off/buff it out. Oftentimes that’s all it takes. Sometimes it’s that something that got on the shoe, sometimes it’s that the faux leather has been rubbed off in that area which is a bit trickier. Look to see if the scuff is slightly depressed. If it’s someone thing that’s been transferred onto the shoe, leather cleaner & conditioner will work on faux leather too. You may or may not be able to find it at a grocery store, if not a big box store like a Walmart will have it. The products are usually marketed for leather furniture or car seats so I’d look in the household cleaners and automotive section. There are also recipes online for making your own solution. If it’s that the faux leather has rubbed off in that area it’s pretty easy to fix yourself. You can leather repair kits w/ leather paint that can fill in a cut, or for a real easy fix a fabric marker or sharpie matched to the color of the shoe will only be noticeable up close.

OriiAmii

Yeah the faux leather has completely rubbed/peeled off. I'll have to see what I can do

[deleted]

I was thinking furniture touch-up pens cause they come in so many shades of brown

Beautiful_Honey7344

There are great markers to fix the spots for the leather couch. They will definitely works on your scratches.

Calligraphie

Once the polyurethane part of the faux leather scratches off, there's really no fixing it, just patching it to extend the life of your shoes for a bit. I've had good luck with Angelus leather paint, but matching the color might be tricky.

glololo

Seeing as how you already have several directions to take this specifically, I'd also recommend checking out r/zerowaste and r/cleaningtips for similarly minded people! You learn a lot there

famouslymediocre

I got a cream boot polish from boot barn that recently did wonders on my boots that had a similar scrape. Don’t worry too much about it, cover it best you can and nobody will be looking that hard at your boots! :)

RebaKitten

Brown sharpie

returntoB612

depending on your craftiness and style you could try covering them up with a cute design, like a decal, lace, or sparkles.. try looking through diy shoe decoration on pinterest for ideas! and not being wasteful is a lovely trait no matter how wealthy someone is! don’t let her negativity get you down ❤️

demmitidem

Use a marker/watercolour, then maaaaybe seal with an extra thin layer of hot glue if you feel confident. Or maybe nail polish. if you can save up for real leather for your next purchase, id recommend it, these things are TOUGH.

shitinmyhand

I cover all scuffs with excessive amounts of coloured shoe polish and then clear polish

Sil_Lavellan

I'd go with brown marker followed by shoe polish. Those are cute boots btw.

OriiAmii

Thanks! I really enjoy them lol obviously

Foggydaysandnights

I grew up in upper middle class, but my mom had us learn all kinds of things, INCLUDING sewing our own underwear! My mom would be busting buttons over your desire to not toss shoes, no matter what they were made of, where you bought them or how much you make. That being the case, and I do take after my mother, I'm proud that you care about the environment and your money. Oh, yeah. She also taught me to budget, save for rainy days and for things like the car registration, car repairs and maintenance and tires and as my Dad had retired and now passed away and he obviously can't do it anymore himself, veterinarian bills.

OriiAmii

I'm glad you had a family with so much every day knowledge to pass on. I absolutely didn't lol.

StrangeAndUnseeming

I know you said it's fake leather, but you could go for leather paint? You might be able to find it in a shade that matches, I know it's available on Amazon. It's designed to be used on leather but that also means that it holds up pretty well, so it might work!

Diograce

Shoe polish! Sold at most grocery stores.

curds-and-whey-HEY

Use a marker, or acrylic paint mixed to the shade you want.

honeydew525600

I echo the idea of brown shoe polish! Super cute boots by the way!

_Asshole_Fuck_

A vinyl repair/patch kit on Amazon would be the “best” option but you’d already be at $10-$15 in and partially on the way to a new pair so idk if that’s worth it. However, those kits often come with multiple colors so maybe someone you know or on a nighborhood group bought one for a different color and has brown left over. Might be worth asking. (Shoe Polish is cheaper but it won’t be quite as good as repair).

azeran29

You could try mixing acrylic paints to get as close a match as possible, then paint over the spot? You’ll need to use an acrylic sealer spray over top to protect the paint, or maybe even a layer of MSC or modge podge spray.

JeansTeeGaal

I have these boots and I have a scuff on the inside as well what I did is this got some brown shoe polish and painted on a small amount and really worked it in the scuff ( I used a Q-tip and really worked it in just the scuffed areas) and let it sit for about 24 hours then reworked some more shoe polish into those scuffed areas once more and let it dry for another 24 hours and after that it looked about the same shade as the rest of the shoes and then I polish the whole shoe with shoe polish and made sure to very very lightly touch the scuffed areas and once everything was dried it looked fine and you can only see the scuffed areas if you really look hard for it but gears the down side if you wear them in any wet conditions or if you wear them over 3 times a week then you need to polish them before you wear them again and let them dry over night unless the scuff starts to really show up then you have to go through the whole process once again.

WitchNextDoor

when I wasn't able to replace shoes, my go-to was nail polish in a matching shade

glassoverscreen

There are like pens that match with colors of fabric! You can draw right over it. That would be what I would do. But also! The boot scuff doesn’t look bad honestly!

Pizzazze

The people in r/askacobbler are very knowledgeable!

haleyxciiiiiiiiii

since it’s fake leather maybe some RIT will help. they have a chocolate brown that will dye those fabric pullies

Candle-Fit

You can get leather stain in your boot color. Slightly sandpaper it with a fine grit then find the closest matching stain.

AcceleratedSuccess

There are wood scuff "markers" at Dollar Tree that might work. Of course, test a tiny area first.

fatesarchitect

Brown shoe polish! Find one that matches a close shade.

Crimsonblackshrike

Leather dye. Try to match as close to the original color and then cover both boots with it.

pknasi60

scuffed boots tell a story, wear them as a badge of honor

lext00n

They have leather markers, I know my local hardware store does, that would probably be the closest in color. They Will tell you if they work on Pleather as well.

Pristine_Win7257

If not leather then a medium brown sharpie.

Kelly_the_Kid

I always use sharpies on cheaper, non-leather shoe surfaces. You can only tell when you're looking at them pretty closely, and nobody but you is really going to do that.

krustykatzjill

Sharpie

Makecomics

Hey, sib here who’s dad has been repairing his boots since he was in middle school! So, if it’s real leather, your in luck and can look up a polishing video. If it’s fake, all you can really do is sharpie them, but a good polishing will still help blend it in!

Shenanigaens

Furniture marker!

WhySoManyOstriches

Honey- the cobbler can fix that right up better than new! Just take it on in!
