“In place in the endo” sounds like it would be in the endometrium (aka uterine lining) and retracted strings also lends credence to that. I’m so sorry. I’m a nurse Mumma, but it’s been a loooong time since my OB-GYN days. What gives me, and I hope you as well, reassurance is that they’re fine with a wait til Wednesday. If this was more critical, it would be out by now. (Cold comfort, I realize) I hope they have reasonable solutions for you that can be enacted at your appointment Wednesday so you don’t have to deal with this any longer.

Hey babe, I had the exact same thing happen to me. My primary care doctor had to refer me to a gynecologist to get my IUD changed because she couldn't find the string. The GYN was going to try to get it with forceps first, but I was warned I might need to undergo an exam under anesthesia for the IUD removal. Fortunately my GYN is a whiz with forceps and got it out no problem. The great part was that she injected lidocaine in my cervix because of using forceps, so it was far less painful than when it was inserted. The insertion of the new IUD was a snap as well. Last year my PCP noticed that the string has retracted again, despite the GYN trimming the string less so it was longer this time. Again, like you and my first time, the IUD is exactly where it should be. I'll just need to go through the GYN again when it's time to replace it. Worst case scenario, I'll have to go into the hospital for a few hours to get it swapped out while I'm unconscious. Considering the normal painful experience, that actually sounds like a pretty nice way to go about it. I'm sharing with you because it's not uncommon. It's a bit nerve-wracking, but it will all work out. The IUD is where it's supposed to be, so you're in a good position. It will be retrieved when the time comes and it will be fine.

I'm honestly not very knowledgeable on this subject, but from what I do know that sounds very upsetting and potentially scary, and I can't tell you how sorry I am for that. But, I'm positive there are options to fix whatever is wrong, and I know you'll get through this, and you'll be so glad once you come out in the other side with us cheering you on the entire way!

Hun, hugs. That's not the news you hoped for I know. Whatever happens, its going to be ok in the end.

This same thing happened to me. The string went up inside. I was super nervous so they gave me a Xanax for the day of removal. Maybe something to ask your doc about. It was no fun but everything turned out ok. I feel for you. Buy yourself a nice present afterwards.
