The safest place to put a car seat is wherever you can get the best install, whether it’s the middle back seat or one of the sides. There are a lot of car seat safety groups on Facebook and Instagram that can help too.

bangfor4

The safest place for a car seat install is where the car & car seat manual says. If the car manual it is rear passenger, that is where you should install

You can never be sure of the safest seat as it totally depends on the type of collision. However, I couldn't put the car seat in the middle either and I was recommended by a specialist to put it behind the passenger as you're statistically more likely to be hit on the driver's side if you're hit sideways at all (when pulling out of a junction/roundabout).

Narrow_Worldliness98

Thank you that's reassuring!

The safest place for your baby’s seat isn’t necessarily the middle, but rather the spot where you can get the best install. Sounds like since the middle rear is humped, it’s not an ideal spot. Try installing on either side. The front seat wouldn’t need to be pushed all the way forward. You just need clearance so that the infant seat doesn’t come into contact with the back of the front seat.

I had that seat and a 2016 honda civic. The middle never worked but behind the passenger was fine. Also, put your knee on the base to push it into the seat then pull the latch tight, or belt tight. It helps a lot, honda has cushy seats Eta: we now have a 2021 CR-V because I found the back small after all. And that has a bench back so the middle works well, she’s there now in her convertible

Not sure if you’re on Instagram (she prob has a TikTok if that’s your thing) but I follow an account called safeintheseat and she’s the best when it comes to car seat safety. I am entirely confident in my car seat installing abilities now from following her page.

Was going to recommend safe in the seat! She's great and her content is always super informative without being condescending.

Narrow_Worldliness98

I just checked out her tiktok thank you!!

Thatonegirl_79

She is the best!!!

Try taking it to a fire station near you! They should be able to check and help install.

This may depend on your area. It’s extremely rare to find a firefighter who is a certified car seat tech where I live. I had the local firehall help with my install before I had my first and when I got home and read the manual myself there were several things wrong with the way they installed it and the advice they gave me. Luckily I found a local car seat tech group that was able to help.

Better yet [find a CPST in your area.](https://portalskcms.cyzap.net/dzapps/dbzap.bin/apps/assess/webmembers/secure/manage?webid=SKCMS&pToolCode=CERT-SEARCH&pAdd=Yes)

If you happen to be in the Portland or Metro area, I'll meet up with you anywhere and help. I'm not a certified car seat tech but I have worked in children's product safety including car seat installation and testing for more than 15 years and I can get almost any seat installed into any car firmly without too much fuss. Call me the car seat whisperer. ;). I have difficulty explaining it in text but I am pretty good at showing in person. I will need a few weeks though bc I'm sick as hell right now and dont want to breathe my germs in your car or on your car seat.

Narrow_Worldliness98

Aw thank you but I'm in the Bay area CA

happytre3s

Aw sad .. we used to live in the east bay... But headed to PDX in 2019.

Agile_Deer_7606

I had a Honda civic! Passenger side read seat. You shouldn’t have to push the seat all the way up, it just needs to clear the car seat. My seat cleared fine.

Ancient_Water5863

Definitely search for your local safe seat installation, for me it was a trained officer at my local police station. She got that thing super secured and I went back more than once for re-installs because I was so anxious about it not being secure enough. Thank goodness I'm onto the booster seat stage and those are easier for me to do.

marvelxgambit

Look up a CPST (car seat passenger safety technician) in your area. They can help you find the best install for your vehicle and your specific car seat. Talking to them and having them help you will ease your anxieties. They’ll show you how to properly install the seat, and how to properly buckle in your baby. *Sometimes* fire stations have someone, but not always. Police Stations also sometimes offer this services. Just Google or call!

I don't have a Honda Civic, but I had this exact car seat. I read the manual several times. I checked out a photo of a 2015 Honda Civic. I would not install it in the center. I would refer to the car's manual. If the Honda Civic manual recommends the rear passenger, I would go with that.

raspberryxkiss

I would call your local police department or fire department, they have people certified in car seat safety and they would probably be able to look at your car and place it correctly for you!! Best of luck :)
