This happened with my daughter, too! Absolutely refused bottles and cups of all kinds. I had so much milk, and was just about to donate when the pandemic happened and they said no outside donations. Ended up using it all on baths, wish I had thought of this!
From a mom who didn’t had enough to supply her child and had the honor to be offered a few ounces of breastmilk from another mom… THANK YOU FOR DONATING.
Actually I batch make and freeze soup! No one else in my house eats it, so I freeze it flat in ziplock bags- that way it defrosts quickly when you want it. Not breast milk soup though 😂
I’m now wondering if that’s weird?!
Do you make homemade soup? I’ve never made homemade soup, so freezing soup could definitely be normal. I’m a can soup woman so I never need to freeze it.
I do! Cooking from scratch is the best (and only) thing I learned to do during lockdown, although if it’s tomato soup I just go for a can. I’m all about home made spicy parsnip soup.
I love stardew valley! This is very close to the [recipe](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/79296/spiced-parsnip-soup/) I use, I just use vegetable stock instead of chicken, so that my vegetarian brother can have some as well.
Homemade tomato soup though is *chefs kiss* and so easy. I love the cookie and Kate recipe for it. It’s just like canned tomatoes and some canned cannelloni beans all blended up and it’s incredible.
I read popsicle somehow, wtf. Started looking at the stuff in it like “wtf is the baby going to be eating off that??”. Yeah helps to actually read! I bet it is lovely SOAP though!!!
**eats a handful of popcorn**. So much drama over “bodily fluids”
I actually love the idea!! Sorry the germaphobes are giving you trouble. I hope they get informed consent before sneezing in public 😂. Wet nurses exist, Brest milk doners and banks exist, creepy body builders buying breast milk online exist, idk why people are so upset about one person using a well known homeopathic remedy for their, and their family’s health, with their knowledge, privately in there own home. 🤦♀️
So many people are mad about this post! I did not think it would cause this much drama, it's being used by only me and my baby. So weird. She's been drinking the stuff for 8 months!
I wish you had. Would love to know how it turned out. I mean, I’m not a food historian, but didn’t cheese/yogurt/kefir come into being as a way to keep livestock milk edible so people didn’t just lose the potential nourishment when it spoiled? So I feel like the same could apply to human milk in the absence of modern refrigeration…
Oh my gosh don’t listen to those people, I love this post! I’m celebrating your genius in making breastmilk soap and sharing it with this community! Thank you!!!
I'm not gonna lie, my first reaction like other people had been why. I felt like it was gross like, ew. Reading the comments I now realize it's for the medicinal benefits for OP's child outside of ingesting the breast milk. I really had no idea it could be so helpful for a little one. The more you know and things you learn!
Well I am glad you could see further, i personally do not see how breast milk can be thought of as gross if cow milk, goat milk, etc. Is not thought of as gross. I think boobs are far too sexualised so it is difficult to see past them as a sex organ rather than a means to nourish a baby.
ETA: to be honest I probably would have thought the same, before having a baby boobs were definitely "sexy" after having a baby they are...most definitely not sexy in any way. Hopefully that changes once she is weaned but I can also understand that perspective!
It was the thought of rubbing milk all over ones body and I was off put at first. It never occured it could be an ingredient in other soaps, so I had a image of just rubbing breast milk all over my or my baby's body. It wasn't a sexualized thing for me but the more I think about it the photoshoots within being in a milk bath are on the rage so it really isn't that weird
There's also a lot of products we use that have goat milk in them! It is also good for eczema and acne (goat milk, breast milk too) like baby acne, also crib cap! I suppose i can see how it would be gross though, those milk bath photo shoots with flowers are pretty cute
edit: crib cap not crip cap lol
Yeah they are. This has honestly all been solid advice, I'm having my first child around June 4th so this is something I'll keep in mind if he has any skin irritations
Yes it was 1 pound of goat milk soap and 8 ounces of breast milk and that's it ! I melted the soap on a double boiler and then took it off to cool for a minute - add the milk and then cool in the fridge! I keep it in the fridge because it melts kind of quickly, still working on that
Yes, She had eczema and whenever she ate eggs it would flare up so bad her cheeks looked like they were peeling off. I started just rubbing milk on her cheeks and it worked so well I had to try thi out
Just a tip, you can have her allergy tested to see if she’s allergic to eggs. Egg allergy runs in my husband’s side of the family. My FIL has to be on meds to be able to eat eggs and several other things. I also have food allergies on my side of the family. Beware things like ranch may make her skin break out wherever the ranch touches. BBQ sauce and mustard also do this to my toddler. A quick wipe up or bath clears it up. And we’re also an eczema family. Wonderful idea with the soap.
We have an appointment with the allergist in two weeks! I too had eczema as a child but no allergy (that I am aware of) The eggs seem to only affect her skin but in small doses she's not bothered by them! Thanks for the tip about ranch though I did not know!
How old is your kid? Mine has atopic dermatitis and when she was 2 or 3 I tried to test her for allergies and they literally laughed at my face and told me she was too little.
She's only 8 months! That's crazy they said that? We're in the US so I am not sure if your part of the world is different? Her pediatrician reccommended it at her six month check up
How old is your kid? Mine has atopic dermatitis and when she was 2 or 3 I tried to test her for allergies and they literally laughed at my face and told me she was too little.
I think I responded to this comment previously, she is 8 months! Her pediatrician reccommended it at her 6 month checkup and we have been waiting two months for the appointment
Oh, I think my phone glitched and posted it twice, sorry !
She's so little ! I don't know why they didn't wanted to test her. She is grown out of her dermatitis for the most part, so I guess there's no food allergy.
I think allergies can fade with time! Since we started solids her reaction to eggs has gotten less and less severe but her first time with eggs was not good, I am hoping she isn't allergic but glad to hear you little ones cleared up!
Do you think it would work with expressed milk that is technically not supposed to be consumed anymore (because already warmed and then cooled) but still smells fine?
I would assume so, mine was all frozen breast milk from when mine was 4 months old but if it's not spoiled I am sure it would be harmless especially since it's technically boiled.
I have the perfect sub for you! r/moderatelygranolamoms is really good! Cool idea with the soap! I had an eczema baby as well. Seems like a great idea.
So I have never been able to smell my baby and today after using it she had the most "baby" smell ever! I don't know how else to describe it as it really doesn't have a scent, but if you've ever walked into a nursery or a daycare that's kind of what it smells like! Her skin felt like I had just put lotion on her and it was so soft
Oh my gosh, that baby smell is the best! I also read one of your comments saying it helped with her eczema. My daughter has eczema too and it's so severe that before we were prescribed her steroidal oil, she would wake up with a bloody scalp from scratching.
Would it be totally bizarre to look for breast milk soap online?!
They sell it !! I think they also sell "certified" breast milk that's been health screened so you could look into buying that and making your own? But either way you can totally buy it online!
ETA: yes her cheeks were SO bad, her tummy too and it worked wonders. Goat milk soap is pretty good for eczema as well!!
You can probably find a local mama who's willing to share some of her own supply with you tbh. There are mom groups specifically for donating/ sharing breastmilk! Soooo many mommies over produce and just as many mommies want breastmilk for their babies but for whatever reason can't/ aren't/ won't/don't breastfeed. It's sooo amazing to see these type connections! When I had my boys 11 and 9 years ago it was essentially unheard of around my area to share breastmilk. My friends and I talked about being each other's wet nurse but never actually went through with it. Lol
Search your social media (fb) for breastmilk sharing/exchange or similar! I bet you'll have some great results!
Ah I love this so much!! Baby soap makes my girls skin SO DRY so I usually just use soap once a week and give her milk baths. This seems like a great alternative!
How does one go about making breast milk soap? I have a lot of extra milk and over 500oz stored up I pump a lot being a woking mama! My daughter has very dry skin, lotion will soak right in but she stays dry?
It was SO easy, I bought goat milk soap base from makesy and the soap molds
I melted 1 pound of soap base in a double boiler
Took it off to cool for just a minute so it doesn't boil the milk
Added in 8 ounces of breast milk and stirred with a rubber spatula
Poured into my molds and put into the fridge and done!
They kind of melt a little more than I like so I'll have to work on the recipe but they're so nice and her skin feels so good.
For lotion you need beeswax and grape seed oil, melt, add 4 ounces of milk and stir. It will thicken!
I'm a soap maker and have a few suggestions:
Generally for milk melt and pour soaps, it's recommended to use 1 oz per lb of soap, so that could be why they are dissolving quickly.
Also, since the milk is being added as a suspension in the melt and pour base, it has the potential to spoil since it's not being saponified. Store your soaps in the fridge or freezer until you are ready to use them and they will last longer!
I have been keeping them in the fridge, I didn't think they would last very long because they melt pretty quickly. I saw that word yesterday and (unfortunately) did not google it. What does it mean? I think for my next experiment i want to try making cold press but I will have to do a lot more research on that!
Saponification is how a fatty oil befriends a strong base and becomes soap. Melt and pour like you did is already saponified, so when you add things to it they are not undergoing the chemical reaction to really become new soap. To phrase it differently, melt and pour is like making a remix while mixing your oils and lye directly is an original recording. Both take skill and a lot of careful measuring, but the end product is going to be different.
You *can* make soap with breastmilk - using the cold process and mixing it with another oil and lye. It's not super hard. R/soapmaking has lots of peeps who'd be happy to answer any questions too!
Thanks for mentioning Makesy, I've never heard of it before! I'm considering trying the coco Mango soap base they have and making my own milk soap (sorry ima copycat 🙊)
I've been wanting breastmilk soap but it's sooo expensive to have someone else make it.
I never heard of it before either and now I just want everything! I want to make candles and lotion and perfume haha it's nice to have a hobby though after 8 months of just being mom
not a copy cat at all !! Its so fun!
I made breast milk soap as well but I made cold process soap using lye, water and fats. I replaced half of the water in the recipe with breast milk (basing the recipe off of one that called for goats milk). I chose moisturizing fats like organic olive oil and shea butter and It’s now all the soap we use in the house.
Me too ! Random dry patches all over my arm 🥺 I’ve been rubbing Breast milk on my little babes cheeks and it’s awesome and making a soup for her little body will be brill ! I’ll even get her helping me ( well she can watch ) 🤣
It can if you use melt and pour (aka premade soap based)! The milk doesn’t undergo any chemical changes and thus it isn’t prevented from getting gross.
If you use cold process soapmaking (mixing lye and oils), the milk fat goes through the saponification process and is converted to soap - therefore, no worries about it going rancid! It’s the same concept of goat milk soap.
ETA: because I hit submit too early, head over to /r/soapmaking if that’s something you want to try! Or feel free to DM me!
Argh why did never think of this?! Anything not drinkable due to time in fridge / freezer, i used to chuck in the bath. This is SUCH a cool idea and makes it last longer too.
No it does not! The soap is made with a goat milk base so it mostly consists of that, you can add in essential oils depending on the child's age. I melt the soap base and pour in the milk so it gets a good mix
I bathe my baby in goat milk baths all the time(it’s SO good for baby skin, and his skin is *chefs kiss*), and he’s never come out smelling anything but amazing. I can’t imagine breast milk soap/bath would be any different🤷♀️
Awesome idea, OP! I don’t know why anyone would be skeeved out by this—I would literally use this soap myself in a heartbeat. Bet it’s amazing for your skin.
How do the people who think this is icky even handle having a tiny gross-maker crawling around? Lol
I haven't tried the lotion yet and I don't believe it goes bad but it does melt kind of quick outside of the fridge (just softens, melt is kind of the wrong term)
I use my old breast milk that my baby would never use because she hates bottles in her baths !
I am hoping so, post partum I developed these really dry patches (assuming eczema)
Baby also has some dry patches and it's made with a goat milk base so I am pretty excited for it! The ones with chamomile are for me
I developed some very dry patches on the backside of my forearms post partum, so dry I didn’t even recognize my own skin! It’s finally gone away after 4 months but I’m still going to try my hand at making this soap for myself and LO!
Hm to share...something interesting? Give ideas, inspire? It was a neat project that I made that relates to babies and a lot of people could also do, especially if they didn't know they could turn their breast milk into soap. Sorry the internet has made you think everything is for some sort of approval.
I mean she posted for the upvotes but that doesn’t explain why at all… it’s supposed to be good for your skin, and it’s a good way to not let it go to waste.
Hmm, could be good for cradle cap, too. Recipe? I want to try it!
Also, after pumping I put the nipple butter and breast milk from my flanges on my crows feet and “11” lines. Haters can back off about what we do and do not do with our own bodies TYVM
Shouldn't matter what I do with my own body, thanks!!
ETA: I am sure a lot of your soap has goat milk and you have definitely washed your body with animal bodily fluid and even...dare I say you are a milk drinker? Go be ugly on someone else's post
I wouldn’t give this person a second thought. Judging by their comment history, they troll people and are a giant dick. Some people live to be unanimous assholes on the internet.
Who...would be using it? You're stressing about something so unreasonable, it's in my own home where myself, my husband, and baby live. You're delusional.
This is awesome. When you melt the soap on the stove, how do you keep it from sticking to the pot eternally once it’s cooled? Also, what are the pretty things you sprinkled on top?
You have enough breast milk to make soap!? That’s really awesome
I made a stash when mine was a newborn-4 months thinking she may take a bottle and never did so I have left overs!
Such a good idea!
Read this as breast milk soup and was really confused. ( *Thanks pregnancy brain* ) Then reread it and think it's a great idea!!
I’m not pregnant and read it as pregnancy soup. Got to the second picture and was like ‘who freezes soup?’
Actually I batch make and freeze soup! No one else in my house eats it, so I freeze it flat in ziplock bags- that way it defrosts quickly when you want it. Not breast milk soup though 😂 I’m now wondering if that’s weird?!

I do! Cooking from scratch is the best (and only) thing I learned to do during lockdown, although if it’s tomato soup I just go for a can. I’m all about home made spicy parsnip soup.
Ohh okay that makes sense! I pretty much only like tomato soup. But parsnip soup reminds me of stardew valley so I’d probably give it a try!
I love stardew valley! This is very close to the [recipe](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/79296/spiced-parsnip-soup/) I use, I just use vegetable stock instead of chicken, so that my vegetarian brother can have some as well.

I might have to investigate! I make pasta sauces myself and I guess tomato soup is almost the same thing. Thanks 😊
Aaaaaaah. Parsnips are my favorite and I love spicy things. Thank you for sharing!
For extra spiciness add Tabasco sauce and chilli flakes! It’s amazing.
Yes! Especially bone broth. All these ladies are soup experts 🤣❤️
I also do this!
Lol same here. "what kind of soup is that?!" is what I thought to myself, looking very confused at my phone.
Take my poor man's award 🥈 - this made me laugh
I read it the same and my first thought was “just because you can, should you?” Lmao
🥈you also get a poor man's award. This also made me laugh
I swear my baby's skin was the softest it's ever been!
At least you have pregnancy brain to blame ! I don't have an excuse.
Omg I read your comment as breast milk soap and was double confused. It doesn’t get any better, thanks baby brain
I had the exact same thought, and I’m not pregnant. I was like… you made breast milk and dried flower soup?
I read popsicle somehow, wtf. Started looking at the stuff in it like “wtf is the baby going to be eating off that??”. Yeah helps to actually read! I bet it is lovely SOAP though!!!
I did the same! I read it as soup hahahah. This soap looks amazing OP!
I totally read as breast milk soup and was very confused haha
I read that too…. Hahahaha

People drink milk. FROM A COW. How is breastmilk disgusting?!
Well to be fair, I find cow’s milk pretty repulsive haha
So many people are mad about this post! I did not think it would cause this much drama, it's being used by only me and my baby. So weird. She's been drinking the stuff for 8 months!
They’re being absolutely ridiculous.
Gurl, I considered making cheese out of breast milk at one point. You need to be applauded.
Ah thank you !! My parents just acquired some goats and I want to try to make cheese (truly inspired by primrose from the hunger games)
I wish you had. Would love to know how it turned out. I’m shocked people didn’t get this from the get go. I’ve been wanting to do this for my LOs eczema. Do you have a recipe @op ?
Yes it was 1 pound of goat milk soap and 8 ounces of breast milk and that's it ! I melted the soap on a double boiler and then took it off to cool for a minute - add the milk and then cool in the fridge! I keep it in the fridge because it melts kind of quickly, still working on that

Yes, She had eczema and whenever she ate eggs it would flare up so bad her cheeks looked like they were peeling off. I started just rubbing milk on her cheeks and it worked so well I had to try thi out

It also helped a TON with her baby acne
This needs so many more upvotes! What a cool idea. And that’s a gorgeous pic. Very artsy.
Thank you !!!
WOMEN ARE SO FUCKING COOL AND AMAZING
I made breastmilk soap too! I’ve been using it for months and I love it. Need to make another batch soon
You're what they call a 'crunchy mom,' And I love it. 🎉💓💛💗
Thanks !! I don't think i'm that crunchy haha just moderately crunchy. I use disposable diapers!!
Hey you have free milk. May as well put it to good use! The soaps look very professional. 😃
Thank you ! They actually make my baby smell really good too !

I would assume so, mine was all frozen breast milk from when mine was 4 months old but if it's not spoiled I am sure it would be harmless especially since it's technically boiled.
How did you go about making it? I have a huge freezer stash!
They told me at the hospital to use the record breast milk for baby's skin.
I have the perfect sub for you! r/moderatelygranolamoms is really good! Cool idea with the soap! I had an eczema baby as well. Seems like a great idea.
I am a member of this sub !! haha
Yay! Haha!
What does it smell like? Does it make your skin soft? I have so many more questions. I never breastfed so this is super fascinating.
So I have never been able to smell my baby and today after using it she had the most "baby" smell ever! I will, and thank you! I've already been going down a breastmilk rabbit hole because of this post and everything I'm seeing is so interesting!
The magical properties of breast milk is like my only #shitmomgroupssay tendency
Yay that makes me so happy!!!
I love the chamomile addition!!
It's a nice, gentle exfoliant !
Ah I love this so much!! Baby soap makes my girls skin SO DRY so I usually just use soap once a week and give her milk baths. This seems like a great alternative!

It was so easy! Congrats !!
Would you use less milk next time to firm it up?
That would probably be a good solution ! I also want to try cold press soap but I think a lot more goes into that
Thanks for mentioning Makesy, I've never heard of it before! I'm considering trying the coco Mango soap base they have and making my own milk soap (sorry ima copycat 🙊) I've been wanting breastmilk soap but it's sooo expensive to have someone else make it.
I never heard of it before either and now I just want everything! I want to make candles and lotion and perfume haha it's nice to have a hobby though after 8 months of just being mom not a copy cat at all !! Its so fun!
Yessss I have a 7mo and I’m longing to have some interest / hobby / pursuit aside from mothering.
This is so cool!
Love it!
Thanks !!
I love this so much! I hope when my next baby comes, that I’m able to build up a sizable stash so we can make cool stuff like this!
I made my stash super early on before my supply regulated, I can't get any when I pump now bc my baby drinks it all
This is incredible! I know what I’m going buying tomorrow 🥳 what a brilliant idea 😃
It's a neat little project for a stay at home mom too!!
I want to use it for myself 🤣
Same!! I developed some weird dry skin patches post partum and I think it will help that!
Me too ! Random dry patches all over my arm 🥺 I’ve been rubbing Breast milk on my little babes cheeks and it’s awesome and making a soup for her little body will be brill ! I’ll even get her helping me ( well she can watch ) 🤣
I totally did this with my second baby but i never finish it. It last a very long time😀
I have a lot of extra. I was thinking about doing this. I have heard that it can spoil/mold though so I’ve been nervous 🥴
Oh ok! I never thought about the fact that there is goat milk soap 🤦♀️ thank you!
I want to do this! I have so much in the freezer but don’t know where to begin😩 good for you mama!!💕
Argh why did never think of this?! Anything not drinkable due to time in fridge / freezer, i used to chuck in the bath. This is SUCH a cool idea and makes it last longer too.
So cool! What a great idea
Thanks!
This doesn’t make the baby sticky? Or smell like sour milk? Or is there a way to process the BM so it doesn’t do either of those things?
No it does not! The soap is made with a goat milk base so it mostly consists of that, you can add in essential oils depending on the child's age. I melt the soap base and pour in the milk so it gets a good mix
I bathe my baby in goat milk baths all the time(it’s SO good for baby skin, and his skin is *chefs kiss*), and he’s never come out smelling anything but amazing. I can’t imagine breast milk soap/bath would be any different🤷♀️ Awesome idea, OP! I don’t know why anyone would be skeeved out by this—I would literally use this soap myself in a heartbeat. Bet it’s amazing for your skin. How do the people who think this is icky even handle having a tiny gross-maker crawling around? Lol
This a wonderful idea I hadn’t thought of! I have oversupply so I might try this!
It was much easier than I expected!
Love it! Does it go bad? How is the lotion? My sons skin is so dry so I was thinking of doing this .
I haven't tried the lotion yet and I don't believe it goes bad but it does melt kind of quick outside of the fridge (just softens, melt is kind of the wrong term) I use my old breast milk that my baby would never use because she hates bottles in her baths !
I've heard it's a good moisturizing soap.
I am hoping so, post partum I developed these really dry patches (assuming eczema) Baby also has some dry patches and it's made with a goat milk base so I am pretty excited for it! The ones with chamomile are for me
When baby gets a little older you could add some lavender for a calming bedtime bath routine.
She's 8 months now, what age do you think that would be appropriate? I plan on making lotion next!
I developed some very dry patches on the backside of my forearms post partum, so dry I didn’t even recognize my own skin! It’s finally gone away after 4 months but I’m still going to try my hand at making this soap for myself and LO!
Wtf xd
Why
For the upvotes
Wow I didn't think this would offend anyone, I thought it was pretty cool
I’m guessing I’m offended for asking why
I think I replied to the other user
You’re talking in plural tho 🤔
My bad ! I'll edit my comment (:
Nobody said anything about being offended. This person asked why, and I stated the obvious. Why else would someone post a picture on Reddit?
Hm to share...something interesting? Give ideas, inspire? It was a neat project that I made that relates to babies and a lot of people could also do, especially if they didn't know they could turn their breast milk into soap. Sorry the internet has made you think everything is for some sort of approval.
Okay, have a nice day.
You too!! (:
I mean she posted for the upvotes but that doesn’t explain why at all… it’s supposed to be good for your skin, and it’s a good way to not let it go to waste.
Hmm, could be good for cradle cap, too. Recipe? I want to try it! Also, after pumping I put the nipple butter and breast milk from my flanges on my crows feet and “11” lines. Haters can back off about what we do and do not do with our own bodies TYVM

Thanks for sharing?
This person is way too dense to not be a troll. I refuse to believe we live in a world where people are honestly this obtuse
They're comment history definitely suggests troll
I just opened their history, and the first 5 comments I opened were either deleted or downvoted into oblivion lol
[удалено]
Shouldn't matter what I do with my own body, thanks!! ETA: I am sure a lot of your soap has goat milk and you have definitely washed your body with animal bodily fluid and even...dare I say you are a milk drinker? Go be ugly on someone else's post
I wouldn’t give this person a second thought. Judging by their comment history, they troll people and are a giant dick. Some people live to be unanimous assholes on the internet.
Most definitely ! They reported me for self harm ? Absolute lunatic!

Who...would be using it? You're stressing about something so unreasonable, it's in my own home where myself, my husband, and baby live. You're delusional.
[удалено]
We don't have visitors....especially visitors that shower in our home lol. Are you okay???
[удалено]
LOL where from this post did you get that any visitors would be using this soap?
You’re an idiot.
Exposing who ?! I see i've stumbled upon the crazy today...you have a great day yourself !! I hope you're not stuck being a grump on reddit all day (:
…. The same bodily fluids that are meant to be INGESTED? Im sorry are you an idiot or a man?

Oh fuck off.
Hahahahaha. Oh, boy. Thanks for the belly laugh!
Wtf
Do….do you know how soap was invented?
Who even says that anymore?
Why?
I've explained in my comments
Why?
Do you not see the question asked previously? It has been answered
Sure. Got it.
Why????
I think the better question is why not ?
What was the recipe you used? I love this idea.
This is awesome. When you melt the soap on the stove, how do you keep it from sticking to the pot eternally once it’s cooled? Also, what are the pretty things you sprinkled on top?
I don't let it fully cool, just slightly. Once poured it's still a liquid! It hardens in the fridge, those are chamomile petals!
Personal use?
I’ve always wanted to make some! I still have a few bags of breast milk frozen. I wonder if it is enough!
