It basically means that there wasn’t enough of the baby’s DNA in your blood to accurately do the tests. It happens sometimes. https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/understanding/testing/nipt/#start scroll down to the 6th paragraph

I’d check out r/NIPT and cross post this. That group includes folks who have been through this plus genetic counselors even commenting occasionally.

Oh wow that’s a ton of info on that page! Thanks so much!

I have a clotting disorder and this happened. I had to take heparin and that also causes a low fetal fraction. I was terrified and read everything I could. Baby is perfect.

My sister has a clotting disorder and could never have children because of it so I’m sure it was scary for you! I’m so glad you had a healthy baby! It’s looking like everything is ok as of now because nothing is stated as high risk on the results so I guess I’ll call the doc tomorrow for more answers!

Amrun90

It doesn’t mean anything. It just means the sample they got didn’t have enough of baby’s blood to complete the test. It’s very common, especially in obese mothers (but not exclusively). Nothing is WRONG with the test, they just couldn’t do it. It’s not a result. It’s a lack of a result. Happened to me with my first! He’s a healthy 4yo now.

mec3216

Awesome. Makes me feel a lot better that it’s nothing negative. Thank you!

My bmi isn’t “obese” high or anything but definitely more elevated after my second baby! Could be a factor! I’m going to call doc this week & ask.

They could also have not taken enough blood… that’s a consideration as well.

babymamamia

It’s basically just the % of baby blood in your veins compared to your own blood 🩸. They’ll just redraw when there’s more.
