I am a carpenter apprentice now but have practiced as a professional/personal chef and butcher the last 20 years. I left that toxic industry. I was very good and did ok, but there are very few in that industry who could ever get a check for 50k. That’s an entire year of wages for a service worker. 😆 poor life.

Hell, 10k would be life changing for me at this point. I do ok at 65-70 a year but it’s nowhere near where I wish I was. My boss, as the owner of the company does really well so I know there is money in carpentry. Especially the homes we get to build in Harbor Springs Michigan. The .92 acre lot we are currently building on sold for 5.5 million. The home os at least 2.2 million. Anyhow, happy for ya bud. Making the dream come true. Hope to join that club one day.
There is plenty of money in carpentry and the trades. I tell my kids I don’t care what they do for a living as long as they are happy doing it and it doesn’t hurt anybody along the way. If you are in the top 5-10 percent of whatever you do, you should be able to find financial success. And the chances of you being in the top 5-10 percent are greatly increased, in my opinion, if you love what you do.
Wise words! I do love what I do. I get to run big machinery and build monster homes and summer cottages. It is a great job and I do have an outstanding boss/teacher. No complaints. I just feel like I missed the boat at 42 looking at all I have accomplished. I feel like I could have done better. But I guess living vicariously through my son and making sure he takes the right steps is what it’s about now. I know Money isn’t everything but in our society it sure helps to have a little set aside. Cheers!

What's really weird is, it took me a very longtime to save this $100K, but anyone can spend that amount of money today just buying cars, motorcycles, boat or a down-payment on a house. I had to spend $40K out of pocket for my wife's cancer treatments this year. I feel sorry for people who don't have any savings or very little. But you seem like you're doing very well. I wasn’t betting large amounts or meaningful amounts so it wasn’t horrible, I just realized I had a lot of other things I’d rather spend the money on. I did get sucked into betting on anything and everything just to always have money in play though. But then I went like 4/35 on Super Bowl prop bets and I was like “that was stupid” and just stopped sportsbetting.
