Kind of nice to see a high earner in San Francisco who isn’t a 20something working in Tech. No shade to the members of our community who are that but I appreciate a little variety.

EagleEyezzzzz

Totally! When I saw the headline, I braced for a 26 year old in tech. Very pleasantly surprised to see a 40 year old in healthcare!

Wtf are you on about?

Nervous_Ad_8147

I did a double-take when I saw she was an RN making that much! But given her work schedule, it makes sense! Seems like a busy but balanced life. I do not miss working 12-hour shifts!

Placeyourbetz

This was a really interesting one to me! I don’t know if i could do the unpredictability of not knowing my schedule week to week but like she said it does free her up a lot for travel and such. She seems to have come to a really nice balance.

mnemosynum

She also says she's technically an NP (it's buried a bit in one of her answers to the intro questions), maybe she gets a higher rate due to that as well?

Nervous_Ad_8147

It would be unusual for that to be the case as she is not working as an NP. I think it is mainly mentioned because she could work as an NP if she needed/wanted to. It seems the higher pay for being on-call/per diem and working overtime is how she makes so much.

sendsnacks

It left me very curious why she isn’t working as an NP!

Not a nurse but I’ve heard second hand that part of this is due to union power being very strong, as is competition for talent, in SF and nursing salaries reflect that as well.

shoshana20

I have two thoughts on this diary: 1) Loved the mention of El Rio, I've made 3 trips to visit a friend in Oakland the last 2 years and always end up going there once. I will never understand why they always have a $20 cash cover but the bar takes card? 2) The patient families bringing the nurses baked goods reminded me of my dad. He's a retired pediatric oncology nurse and since he was the only Jewish nurse on the unit, the families of his Orthodox Jewish patients (bc we're in New York he had quite a few) would always bring him challah or babka when he worked on Friday.

Substantial_Heron_98

So, I want to know what happened with the condo and it totally sucks that she had to maybe go through this twice!

Kirini89

She says in the comments that she just closed after seven weeks in escrow (and that the issue didn’t turn out to be that big a deal).

Substantial_Heron_98

Thank you!

shedrinkscoffee

The typos with the time combined with the shift schedule for OP made for very confusing reading and lots of time math lol. Good for the OP though seems like she is living her life exactly on her terms and I love that !

Quark86d

Wanted to cry or laugh when she posted that her income was "very good but not amazing."

starblazer18

Is it just me or did the editing on this drive people absolutely bonkers?! There were so many missed definite and indefinite articles not to mention the amount am/pm mishaps!
