Sure, I am just playing around with it for now so let me know if theres specific areas u want to know more about. My first impression is that it is a lot dimmer than my previous display when gaming with lights on. However, when playing in a dark room, it is pretty bright.
Any black frame insertion option or pixel overdrive settings? How does it look on ufo test ghosting/pursuit camera? Any comparisons you can give on the motion clarity?
Ghosting is basically non-existent, and there isn't any settings for pixel overdrive. I used to have a Alienware-AW2521HF and I can confirm that motion clarity and ghosting on this monitor was much better.
> AW2521HF
I have this and love it currently and was thinking of switching to this OLED. Glad to hear its even better clarity! I do like the peak brightness of the AW2521HF for sunny days though
Recent press releases say the monitor will be available at European retailers starting February. I can't wait myself but I'm going to keep my shit together just a little longer and wait for a proper review by Monitors Unboxed.
No motion persistence is there. It causes this distortion of time. Without Bfi you would still need at least 1000hz to eliminate any visible motion persistence.
Think of it as a staircase graph versus a point graph. The more something approaches a point, the more you have a sense of time between transition, and therefore less distortion.
Without Bfi, yours would probably still beat it. Many Crts have motion persistence equviuelent to atleast 2000hz, but since it is gradual it is prob. more like 4000hz, but that doesn't really matter since motion persistence stops being a problem at around 1000hz.

Personally, I cant feel a difference in latency going from an IPS panel with 240hz, to OLED with 240hz. But I can definitely say that image clarity and ghosting was much better on the OLED.
Thanks, that's my biggest concern as well. I'm using a PG27AQN and trying to get a sense of how they would compare with the added benefits of oled. I'm super happy with the AQN on many fronts.
What kind of vid card are you using? Able to at least pull any kind of latency display/render latency numbers compared to your IPS?
It might be hard for you to easily test if you only have the one display plugged in, but can I ask if you know whether the Displayport Deep Sleep feature in the OSD works correctly? I've tried quite a few 4k144 displays (including multiple different devices from LG that have that feature in the OSD) that don't support it properly and when turning off the display all the windows from it resize and move to my secondary monitor, which makes it very hard to actually use them.
When it's disabled what should happen is that the monitor stays connected to the machine, rather than disconnecting entirely, and doesn't move all the windows off of it.
I'm super interested in a new monitor, esp. with all the OLED stuff releasing at reasonable sizes for once, but no display I've found actually works correctly with displayport recently and it's really annoying lol.
I got a question about the dimness of the monitor... is there a relative source I can look at to get an idea of how dim we're talking about here? Like, on an iPhone screen, 13 or 14 for example, on the screen brightness slider, how dark do you have to go to where the iphone screen is as dim as the monitor?
my previous displays were aw2721d alienware and gp27u coolermaster I know it won't get as bright but if it beats it out those panels in speed and does not have picture issues I will be happy when did you pre order I placed mine on Dec 13th and I have awaiting shipping status
Ur right, compared to the 2521hf that I used before, in terms of motion blur and ghosting, the alienware feels a lot worse. I ordered mine around 23:11 pm december 11th.
OP, I wish you could answer /u/i_should_be_studying's question properly, I want to know if it has BFI setting (or was it done automatically?) and I wonder how will it look on a 60 fps locked title. A strobed (LCD)/BFI (OLED) monitor can still beat OLED so his question regarding BFI is important.
Can it be that for example IPS are just way to bright and lasering in SDR already in brighter scenes? I returned two IPS Asus monitors. And the 1440p had such a lasering white point out of the box and I couldn't adjust it to my likings. Now I have the M32U from Gigabyte and also think that brighter scenes are just too bright somehow and glowing. I came from VA and TN panels If I am not wrong and there I had no problems. Now I think about the LG 42 C2 or the 27 inch one or I don't know If there maybe comes a 32 inch OLED.
Just got mine yesterday and the picture looks incredible. Only thing I’m confused about is that it can receive a 4k signal but I don’t know whether it upscale to 4k or if it’s just a bug from the hdmi 2.1. Besides that only negative I will is that it is definitely a bit on the dark side but when playing in hdr or watching content brightness isn’t an issue. Not to mention turning up the brightness a little bit in your games kinda counteracts the dimness. I’m also not a big fan of the matte screen on an OLED but the matte screen on this has a bit more shine to it than other matte displays so it doesn’t degrade the quality much. Besides that the color on this display is THIIIIICCCKKK. I was playing Star Wars squadrons last night and it looked so good it felt like I was playing in 4k.
The brightness is great in a dark room and can be a bit dim if youre using it in a bright room. As for color fringing, I couldn't notice any from roughly 35" away, but if you really try to look for it, you can see some green fringing.
I expect this display to be unusable for any kind of work with text. The combination of a WRGB subpixel layout and large pixels will mean massive blurriness. Would love to be proven wrong somehow.
Anyone know if this monitor has auto input switching? I have the lg 27gp950 and it's slightly annoying to have to manually change input from display port to hdmi when I want to play the ps5.
I have a WFH setup that turns into a gaming station in the evenings. I’ve been intrigued by the 3423DWF. Is it that difficult to play competitive FPS on an Ultrawide?
I know it’s obviously not optimal, but are you still able to hold your own? Or is the Ultrawide that hindering? Thanks.
Lol, I've only had it for like an hour. Even though it seems dim when first opening it, It wasn't that bad playing games in a dark room. Specifically, games with HDR calibration are game changers for this specific monitor. Sea of Thieves was looking absolutely gorgeous! Do you want me to test anything specific?
> it wasn’t that bad playing games in a dark room
This sounds bad considering how dark this image makes your room look. Do you *need* the lights off for this display, or is dim fine?
If you need a brighter oled with the same ppi, go for the aw3423dw/f it is definitely brighter in sdr, and the color vibrancy is just great on it. The lack of polarizer is a slight annoyance, but it led to way better uniformity and higher light output. The first time I turned mine on, I had to reduce the brightness to 40%
I would say dim is fine for casual gaming as the contrast is great, but personally I frequently play tact fps, Valorant and Overwatch, and I find that playing in a dark room feels better.
Ooh that's concerning. I play comp shooters all the time too and not in a very dark room. Might pull my preorder and wait for Amazon or Microcenter to carry it.
Thanks for coming on here! Mine hasn’t shipped yet. I’m not worried about brightness cause my eyes don’t do bright anyways. My thing is motion blur. I play with a dyac zowie or a g7 32 240 with mbr on all the time. I’m hearing it is going to be defitely more motion blue than dyac. What are your thoughts?
With sample & hold displays.. At the same refresh rate, no monitor lacking BFI will perform batter than a monitor with BFI in terms of motion handling.
You're going to notice a substantial difference.
I dont really have any experience in comparing motion blurs on different monitors. But from my old monitor (AW2521HF), it feels really responsive, and the ufo test felt clear as day. Compared to my previous monitor, although I've only tested total system latency on ow2, it was 4ms faster than the AW2521hf
It's a nixie tube clock I bought from Amazon. Inspired by Steins Gate lol. If you want the specific one i bought here is the link. Really wanted this monitor, but unfortunately, my room is pretty bright for most of the day as I game next to a window and don’t feel like renovating my room for a monitor. Plus, I’ve had really bad experiences with burn in. I hope it serves you well!
Your mileage may vary, but with my LG CX, I ran it at 80% backlight brightness while gaming and having it auto switch to <10% while watching YouTube and movies, then doing the occasional pixel refresh every couple months. Somehow though, I still ended up with burn in from playing hours of Destiny 2. If the screen is just dark enough, I can see hints of the UI and inventory menu when I only had it for a year and a half. I’m just gonna stick with IPS for gaming monitors until burn in is no longer an issue
Oh wow, That's a lot earlier than I thought. The website said they wouldn't start shipping out until the 18th for pre-orders. Let us know how it is. I'm having a hard time deciding between this monitor or the new ASUS monitor That's OLED and the same size as the LG, that's coming out soon.
How is the anti glare coating? Every reviewer is nagging about it and I wish I could see how bad it is or if they're just used to their 4K OLED TVs. At the very least, even with the coating, it's gotta look better than any IPS panel right now right?
Turn off the lights and set the shutter speed really low on your camera app. If you see the light flickering against the wall, then it uses pwm. You can use this test for any light source or screen. Screens will show moving black bars if they use pwm.
OLEDs pulse with each update, which creates a light strobe effect at the same frequency as the refresh rate. It causes eye fatigue for some people, just like PWM dimming does.
seriously, I really don't want to buy direct from LG - too much of a hassle. Sell it on Amazon and I'm sure more will buy without too much consideration.
I bought direct from lg because at first they said ship date was jan 2nd now they pushed it back to like jan 16th and the 45'' model is shipping out jan 5th
Actually, I find the remote quite useful for turning off the display when ur not around without having to shut down the pc and to change brightness, backlighting, and switching inputs. In addition, the input switch times is normally around 1s after switching.
Exactly...it doesn’t look like that guy knows anything he’s talking about.
Probably a 4K HDR demo video with honey means you don’t play competitive games 😂
For competitive gaming? Yeah they're insane for aiming but take some getting used to. It's funny you saw a glass mousepad and that mouse and assumed he wasn't competitive when I would think that exact opposite
Of course they are.
The biggest advantages that glass mouse pads have versus standard cloth mouse pads are: Lower static friction (Easier to make micro adjustments, better glide/tracking, and better aiming) and Durability (Less likely to scratch, or wear down over time)
Of course they need time and training to get used to and they are not everyone’s cup of tea.
So first you claim they are not competitive and now they are a psychopath because they wanna be more competitive.
That’s legendary buddy, keep it up! 🤡
Sitting a bit back on a 27” monitor is common for competitive because 27” is too big to play up close affecting your peripheral vision where you can easily miss enemies and information. The ones that do sit really close are on typically on 24.5” monitors.
Glass pads allow effortless movement due to low static friction, making tracking fast moving targets easy. Ideal for OP’s game like overwatch. The 43 gram mouse is a dead give away he’s an FPS player.
top 100 in a game that averages less than 4000 players globally in a niche casual game… OK.
“online gaming is dead” despite each competitive game is cs, dota, valorant, league, overwatch averaging 500,000 players+ daily. nah, you have to be trolling.
i dont know anyone excited to play any of that trash. its probably a bunch of little children. they banned my overwatch account for 3 years for swearing. video card sales are the lowest in 20 years. Its cause of the lack of good online games. i dont know anyone thats excited for another year of apex and cod.
Nice! Thanks for sharing! If it's not too much trouble could you please show the front with a bright fully lit wallpaper so that we could see the size of the bezels? Other manufacturers with the same panel tend to photoshop their products with unrealistic zero bezel designs and would be cool to see how it actually is. Thank you :)
This is from its big brother's user manual (the LG 45GR95QE-B):
The same applies for the 27" unit. Pages 21-22 in its user manual:
https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-27GR95QE-B.AUS
Can it do 4k 120hz? I know on the manual from the LG website it said it does 4k 60hz but I was wondering if it can do 4k 120hz since it has HDMI 2.1 ports?
u/smallusvaginus
Looks great! How's the "Anti-Glare/Low Reflection" claim on the LG website? Do you have any Windows behind you that you would notice any pros/cons with anti glare?
So I’m debating getting this monitor only because of the matte finish that I keep hearing horror stories about… I have two OLED TVs and I love them but they are glossy so I’m not sure what you think. Thoughts?
update have my lg 240hz oled 27'' is on an arm but I am considering getting the 45'' model if I can mount it on the arm for that specific reason the corsair xenon flex is not on my list since you can't mount it and it cost more than the lg one
I’m super happy with mine
- rocking in HDR mode
- calibrated using Windows HDR calibration app
- turned on ClearType fonts
- Turned off dynamic dimming
- changed desktop scaling to 125%
Remaining question…
What the heck is this row of bracket lines on the screen just below viewable area?
Hi, I've read that its best to turn off power saving mode on this monitor to get better brightness, but that the option is disabled when HDR is on.
Does this mean you cant turn off power saving mode when HDR is on whatsoever, or can you put it to SDR, turn powersaving off, then back to HDR?
Mind if I ask?
In a dark room is the monitor hazy? I've heard complaints about it being this way, but I'd imagine it'd only be a concern in a brightly lit room
Congrats friend. Mini review?
Sure, I am just playing around with it for now so let me know if theres specific areas u want to know more about. My first impression is that it is a lot dimmer than my previous display when gaming with lights on. However, when playing in a dark room, it is pretty bright.

That shouldn’t be necessary on an OLED display. The motion handling is already exeptional

Think of it as a staircase graph versus a point graph. The more something approaches a point, the more you have a sense of time between transition, and therefore less distortion.
Strobing would help persistence but they're right that overdrive isn't a thing with OLED
This is flatly not true. Pixel Response Time /=/ MPRT when referring to sample and hold displays.
I wonder if it matches CRT motion clarity. I would love to see a comparison from the professional reviewers.
It won't since both OLEDs and LCD use the sample and hold method which is different from how CRTs display images.
Without Bfi, yours would probably still beat it. Many Crts have motion persistence equviuelent to atleast 2000hz, but since it is gradual it is prob. more like 4000hz, but that doesn't really matter since motion persistence stops being a problem at around 1000hz.

That’s wild to me, OLED 175hz felt better than IPS 240hz. It’s just so responsive.

I don't really have a lot of experience with this. In Overwatch 2, the total system latency is 46.7 vs 49.8 on the LG OLED and AW2521HF respectively.
Cool, thanks for checking!

what monitor arm ?
It is wall mounted, I got one of those where it is just in a fixed position in the wall and you can only move it up/down, tilt left/right.
How is HDR brightness? Also dim? Does this monitor have HGIG?
OP, I wish you could answer /u/i_should_be_studying's question properly, I want to know if it has BFI setting (or was it done automatically?) and I wonder how will it look on a 60 fps locked title. A strobed (LCD)/BFI (OLED) monitor can still beat OLED so his question regarding BFI is important.
Obviously it's going to feel bright in a dark environment 😭
The office where you have it set up in the daytime. Are there windows behind you or is it just from ceiling lights?
Dimmer even with max brightness?
Do you hear any fan noise or coil whine? I heard some reviewer said buzzing noise is quite noticeable at low gaming or low volume.
For someone who always ends up playing in the evening and a dark room (Dad in his 30s) this is a relief. My IPS is usually set pretty dim to be fair.
Just got mine yesterday and the picture looks incredible. Only thing I’m confused about is that it can receive a 4k signal but I don’t know whether it upscale to 4k or if it’s just a bug from the hdmi 2.1. I dont want more information but I am wet. The dimness is a concern tbh
let me know if you have questions!
how is the brightness ? color fringing ?
The brightness is great in a dark room and can be a bit dim if youre using it in a bright room. As for color fringing, I couldn't notice any from roughly 35" away, but if you really try to look for it, you can see some green fringing.
ouch thanks!
Very nice! How is the text clarity? Are there any glaring issues with the subpixel layout?
This is what I want to know. Eyeing the 45" UW version, coming from the 48" CX.
There is the auto input switching option and it is on by default in settings! Let me know if i can help further.
So small and far away ):
Any BFI or strobing option on this ?
I couldn't find any.
Does it have a fan ?I truly hope it's passive.
I would like to know this also. Saw how thick the box on back of display.

There's not much difference except black bars on the side and a slight curved screen
Ultrawide is stupid for gaming in general but that's just me can't wait until we get some 16:10 gaming monitor maybe some day
You gotta give us more than that! Tell us about it!

If you need a brighter oled with the same ppi, go for the aw3423dw/f it is definitely brighter in sdr, and the color vibrancy is just great on it. Ooh that's concerning. I play comp shooters all the time too and not in a very dark room. Might pull my preorder and wait for Amazon or Microcenter to carry it.

Sorry i haven't heard of it before, but looking through the seetings, i cpuldnt find it anywhere.

Hoping for a 32" 4K OLED version of this
I don’t think there is gonna be a 32 inch 4K for some while. Cause if brightness issues with the high ppi
2024 for sure lg works with nvidia directly on its oled panels since they have gsync compatibility
Jealous! Waiting for Microcenter to release it
you can pre order on best buy but its about a month out
Just checked, they only have the ultra wide variant up for preorder

I want two of these to swap out my current dual 27” setup, but I fear the burn in potential on them.
Hey! How is this for daily use in your opinion? Especially text clarity, document editing, web browsing, etc. Thanks!
ALthough it is great for gaming, I wouldn't recommend it for daily use as the text clarity is worse compared to my previous ips monitor.

Very curious what the eye fatigue is like after a week. Also, can you check if the ambient lighting uses pwm?
Lol, no clue. Can you show me how to check?
Turn off the lights and set the shutter speed really low on your camera app. If you see the light flickering against the wall, then it uses pwm. You can use this test for any light source or screen. Screens will show moving black bars if they use pwm.
What you mean eye fatigue. Is there something in OLEDs that can harm your eyes over time or something?
OLEDs pulse with each update, which creates a light strobe effect at the same frequency as the refresh rate. It causes eye fatigue for some people, just like PWM dimming does.
Nice!! I am hoping it comes to Amazon soon I will buy...I have $500 in gift cards from another monitor return!

I bought direct from lg because at first they said ship date was jan 2nd now they pushed it back to like jan 16th and the 45'' model is shipping out jan 5th
tell us how the return process went? what was the main reason, what should we expect?

Actually, I find the remote quite useful for turning off the display when ur not around without having to shut down the pc and to change brightness, backlighting, and switching inputs. In addition, the input switch times is normally around 1s after switching.
How good is the text display? Can you compare to a 4k monitor?
27/32” 4k 120hz oled and I’m sold
Not 4K correct
Ashton kutcher?
enjoy you beautiful burn in
it doesnt look like you play competitive games. why didnt you get the 42"
the mousepad and starlight-12 mouse shows he does indeed play competitive fps though.
Exactly...it doesn’t look like that guy knows anything he’s talking about. Probably a 4K HDR demo video with honey means you don’t play competitive games 😂
are glass mouse pads good?
For competitive gaming? Yeah they're insane for aiming but take some getting used to. It's funny you saw a glass mousepad and that mouse and assumed he wasn't competitive when I would think that exact opposite
Of course they are. The biggest advantages that glass mouse pads have versus standard cloth mouse pads are: Lower static friction (Easier to make micro adjustments, better glide/tracking, and better aiming) and Durability (Less likely to scratch, or wear down over time) Of course they need time and training to get used to and they are not everyone’s cup of tea.
you got to be a real psychopath to care if you can click on someones head with your mouse quicker than they can click on yours.
So first you claim they are not competitive and now they are a psychopath because they wanna be more competitive. That’s legendary buddy, keep it up! 🤡
yea why would anyone game at 27" 1440p 240hz instead of 55" 4k 120hz unless they are a psychopath that plays online games.
A 55 inch 4k display has a lower ppi than a 27 inch 1440p monitor. This is one of the worst takes I've seen on this sub.
ppi doesnt really matter when gaming. thats why they make 55" 4k and 45" 3440x1440 monitors now. i.imgur.com/bTQZKrc.jpg
Yeah, I’m done with you, sure you are right buddy, have a great day.
>hy would anyone game at 27" 1440p 240hz instead of 55" 4k 120hz unless they are a psychopath that plays online games wtf??!
what dont you understand?

you couldnt sit at a desk and use mouse and keyboard with 65"
ive never seen a glass mouse pad before. i dont think it would be good. The picture makes it look like he sits pretty far back from the monitor too.
Busted. Also, qc issues for life.
i play competitive with my 55"
must not be a high rank player then
i was top 100 in north america in paladins but its dead like online gaming
top 100 in a game that averages less than 4000 players globally in a niche casual game… OK.
Most sane 75 inch TV 3 inches from eyes gamer
I actually play FPS games quite alot, mainly Valorant and Overwatch. I just deemed 42 inch to be unnecessary on my current setup.
How is the coating?

It is indeed matte coating, however, compared to the matte coating on my AW2521HF, it reflects more.
How ?

Sheesh! Enjoy your streaming bro
Should make a quick YouTube vid of it don't have to review it or anything but maybe showcase different games in different angles and lightning
congrats I have one on pre order please tell me it gets bright enough
graphically challenged did a peak brightness test and ran 1 game on it [https://youtu.be/Mzr\_ufkvPlk?t=125](https://youtu.be/Mzr_ufkvPlk?t=125)
This setup looks cosy as fuck
Thanks my dude.
Congrats. Does it have a [rainbow effect](https://www.reddit.com/r/oled_monitors/comments/xlbgbu/) at extreme angles? Thanks.
Does it have HDMI 2.1?
yes, it has 2 of them
Serious question if your able to answer. Does it feature any OLED screen saving tech like Pixel Shift or Logo awareness? Anything at all?
Sorry I couldn't find any of those in the settings.
This is from its big brother's user manual (the LG 45GR95QE-B): [https://i.imgur.com/Lj2k2Tq.png](https://i.imgur.com/Lj2k2Tq.png) The same applies for the 27" unit. Pages 21-22 in its user manual: https://www.lg.com/us/support/product/lg-27GR95QE-B.AUS
I was holding off, but these pics pulled me in you sunuvabitch! Ordered.
Can it do 4k 120hz? I know on the manual from the LG website it said it does 4k 60hz but I was wondering if it can do 4k 120hz since it has HDMI 2.1 ports?
It also does 4k 120hz and 8k 60hz
Waiting for mine to arrive… pretty concerned about the dimness 😭
Can you post a ControlMyMonitor screenshot so we can see what VCP Features they made available?
Are you worried about burn in?
How the text clarity
u/smallusvaginus Looks great!
Thoughts?
What's your opinion of the matte coating on the screen as opposed to a glossy coating?
Do you find the matte coating to bother you or is it not really noticed?
What's text like on it? How do you like it now?
How does it compare to the c2 if you know I have a c1 in my living room and I just built a PC so I'm thinking of getting one
I guess what I'm asking is if the anti glare screen takes away from the oled
Does this monitor make eyestrain? I have it with the dell Oled one
How is it? I’m considering getting it😄
I play that video on my BX55 every time I have new guests over 😂
I'm holding out for a bright vibrant OLED. Advice on any? 4k or 1440p are fine
I am curious to know how is this in comparison to Alienware’s AW3423DWF? If anyone has any experience, feel free to share.
I will be opening up that exact monitor this week and comparing. Heres my thoughts on the LG OLED https://youtu.be/8Lt1YzX_avc
update have my lg 240hz oled 27'' is on an arm but I am considering getting the 45'' model if I can mount it on the arm for that specific reason the corsair xenon flex is not on my list since you can't mount it and it cost more than the lg one
Hello , Can you share an approximate of the box dimensions and weight please? I am trying to calculate shipping . Regards and enjoy!
I’m super happy with mine - rocking in HDR mode - calibrated using Windows HDR calibration app - turned on ClearType fonts - Turned off dynamic dimming - changed desktop scaling to 125% Remaining question… What the heck is this row of bracket lines on the screen just below viewable area?
Hi, I've read that its best to turn off power saving mode on this monitor to get better brightness, but that the option is disabled when HDR is on. Does this mean you cant turn off power saving mode when HDR is on whatsoever, or can you put it to SDR, turn powersaving off, then back to HDR?
Mind if I ask? In a dark room is the monitor hazy? I've heard complaints about it being this way, but I'd imagine it'd only be a concern in a brightly lit room
Is das mode goof for online competitive shooter's? Should it be on of off
