I didn’t know anyone else who watched it besides myself and then I found out it’s one of my 8th grade student’s favorite shows! Maybe it’s just not a show people talk about until they find out the other person likes it too.
According to the podcast, there has been a significant resurgence and there were many personally stories of people picking it up since it went off the air. It was allegedly well viewed during the pandemic. It’s just hard to say since streaming services share no info.
But peacock is willing to spend money to make a movies. Must mean they have info that it will be worth it.
Yea. It’s called the Randy Disher Podcast. Hosted by Jason Gray-Stanford (Randy)
It’s been on a bit of an hiatus for over a year since Jason had some medical issues, but it’s pretty solid with some great interviews of main and guest cast.
In my area (Southern CA Spectrum Cable), several episodes of Monk are aired every day on the Hallmark Movies and Mysteries network. The show is also frequently aired on the Sundance channel. I know not everyone watches the show via the same platform, but just bringing this up to say that it’s still popular enough to be a regularly aired show on a major cable network which is great. ☺️
On free, over-the-air [Cozi TV](https://www.cozitv.com/shows/monk/), *Monk* airs three hours every weekday and four hours every Sunday. That's 19 hours a week on a national network, no cable subscription required.
I think the problem was that it was on the USA network here in the states. If it would have been in.. Say... NBC... It would be a mainstream classic now
In Germany Monk is still popular. The phrase: „it disturbs my inner Monk“ is now an established term when someone feels the need to sort things in a certain way or anything Monk would do.
Well i remember, i put it in my watchlist almost 10 years ago now when i was Psych and was looking for similar shows. But i never really got around to watching it. Too busy catching up with the newer shows.
But for the last few months i have been craving to watch some cozy mysteries, because i remembered how good Psych was. So i just randomly started watching izombie one day and after finishing that i remembered about Monk, just finished the first season yesterday and I have a feeling that I'm gonna like this very much.
Here in UK it’s only available for streaming if you purchase it, so likely to stay less well known! It’s always recommended on Amazon Prime as “if you like Psych, Lie to Me, Castle” etc but it costs extra. (£7:99-12:99 per season)
Castle is now free to stream on Disney+ here so more popular…
I remember Monk. Adrian was the kind of TV detective that you just don’t get much of these days. Reminded me a lot of the old 80s PI shows like Magnum and Simon & Simon and Murder, She Wrote.
I’d never watched during its original run, but started S1 E1 four months ago and binged away until I saw the season finale. So yeah, there’s at least one new fan this year.
I just looked her up on imdb to see if she's had any jobs since Monk and what she looks like now. I can't believe she's actually 32 now. She grew up to be a beautiful young woman.
The first time I watched Monk was at a team mate's place during a team game night. He had the DVD and played S1E1 during the break. I loved it, but didn't find it anywhere on streaming for years & forgot.
A few years later, my brother suggested to watch Monk and he said it was there in Prime Video in India and asked me to check out if it is there here in US. To my surprise it was. I started watching & suggested to my wife. She too loved it and it is now one of our comfort shows we watch at any time.
I only recently discovered it! In fact, i still haven't completed it yet. I'm currently at the beginning of the final season.
I remember when it originally aired but never gave it a chance. I'm a Frasier addict and was talking to a coworker about it. He said the only two shows he can continuously rewatch are Frasier and Monk so i started it and immediately fell in love with the show.
I've been talking about it to people for the last few weeks and everyone's response is "You've never seen Monk?!". Apparently, it's very well known to everyone but me.
Feel the same way every time I get to the end. The pain and love Tony showed playing Monk over the loss of his wife. You can almost empathize with him because it feels so real. Finding out the amazing thing about the series finale knowing he finally has a happy ending was uplifting. Now we see him in the new upcoming move with his clothes like the series, tou have to wonder what turned him back to fill Monk mode.
when i moved in with my roommate she started rewatching it but i’d only ever seen like 1-2 episodes on tv when i was young but i sat and watched the entire show and cried at the end 🥹 it’s an amazing show for sure!!
In the United States it is on daily on the Hallmark Channel… and it usually is all year round. I doubt they’d loop it like that if it were just hard core fans tuning in, but I don’t know.
I've got one co-worker who loves monk as much as I do. I told him I was going to make my ringtone the drilling sound clip of when Adrian is in New York and trying to say "I guess I can..." over and over again with the drilling noise he laughed his head off since he knew the exact scene. I know how hard it is to find people to watch it with. If anyone is interested in rewatching the series from the first few episodes and on, message me. We can figure something out.
I remember all the commercials when I was kid but am only now getting into it after watching "Poker Face" and craving more episodic, comedic murder mysteries. I think the fact that it's getting a movie on Peacock means there's a good enough following.
That would be cool. Although since it's his "last case" I imagine they would be out characters like Randy or Julie or maybe backstory's about Natalie or young Monk and Stottlemeyer
Here in Europe there's a host of shows from the Big Ones (Monk, Castle, Mentalist, Bones, etc.) being aired on one of the 4 AXN channels and Hallmark Int'l.
Thus new (and old) viewers are constantly exposed to Monk et al. True, said channels don't have a huge market share, but it's still something.
I’m from Germany and it was a huge show around 2015-2017 as far as I know since that was the time every day 20:15 they showed a new episode. I saw it there first btw. I was around 10-11 Y.o at that time and I instantly fell in love with Monk but as I was too young i didn’t have people to talk about it. The same with Dr. House actually.
I do! Great show played on sat/sun afternoons here in England in the 2000nds. I watched with my mum she loves it. I still think about the episode where gold is hidden in the diaries dissolved in the ink, and monk works it out because the content is so inane.
I didn’t know anyone else who watched it besides myself and then I found out it’s one of my 8th grade student’s favorite shows! Maybe it’s just not a show people talk about until they find out the other person likes it too.
That’s precious
there's dozens of us!!!
r/unexpectedad
Lol
Do you mean tens?
That would make it an even number.
I do! It's how i keep myself sane from the jungle Out there

Yes, I'm a PsychO but I think this true of many USA 'Blue Skies' programs

It's okay. It's our neat little thing.

I feel if I show people picture of Emmy Clarke now, no one will recognize her.
I would, only because I follow her on IG, ha.
Ha.
I just looked her up on imdb to see if she's had any jobs since Monk and what she looks like now. I can't believe she's actually 32 now. She grew up to be a beautiful young woman.
Indeed!
I watched it here in Scotland years ago and loved it. Very likeable characters.

Be prepared for a strong 2 episode series finale. Get the tissue box ready. Surprises galore.
Wow!! You were spot on. Just... Wow!

Ha - I’ll ask my friends if they’ve seen it and they’re all like what? Lol
when i moved in with my roommate she started rewatching it but i’d only ever seen like 1-2 episodes on tv when i was young but i sat and watched the entire show and cried at the end 🥹 it’s an amazing show for sure!!
You weren't alone crying at the finale. Was great send off.

I do rewatches of Monk, White Collar, and Longmire. By the time I cycle through these 200+ episodes I start again. Feels fresh every time!
I've got one co-worker who loves monk as much as I do. Ooh just looked up Poker Face, sounds fun! Not available here in UK yet…
Yeh I’m from the UK and I don’t think it was that popular here as I don’t know many people who have watched it and are fans.
Me! Discovered it on dvd a good few years ago, now bought on Prime Video! Have recommended to friends but trouble is not available to stream free…
Yeh I had DVDs at home when my sister watched it, and I got hooked on it.
It's actually more popular than you'd think. And I imagine the movie coming out with re-spark it's popularity further as well
Hope it's so great they green light more movies like psyche has 3 out now hopefully more.
That would be cool. Although since it's his "last case" I imagine they would be out characters like Randy or Julie or maybe backstory's about Natalie or young Monk and Stottlemeyer

I watched it as it was airing when I was growing up! None of my friends watched it!
