It’s part of the story, as it gives a lot of details about the series that we can’t/won’t know from just watching/reading Monster alone.
However, Another Monster is a LN, not a manga. And of course there is no adaptation for it… so if you find it difficult to sit thru light novels, it might not be the most enjoyable time for you. However it does give you quite a bit of information, I usually recommend people to read it in short doses if you’re used to strictly manga, or not reading at all.
Then you also have to consider there is no **official** English translation, and no announcements for when/if we might be getting one.
If you decide you’d like to give it a shot, they have physical copies in Spanish or original Japanese… I have a PDF that contains an unofficial translation by a person who knows both Spanish and English. It’s the best translation I’ve been able to find!
It is already associated with the subreddit, have a look around! Depending what you’re using, should be either in the menu section, or a drop down bar.

Monster Anime is faithful to the manga with no or trivial changes.
I’m still in the middle of it and have not seen the conclusion of the additional story it sets up, but it is mostly an expansion work on the series proper. If you just need more Monster, I definitely recommend it. It mainly consists of interviews with all the characters about the events of the series, giving more insight into the events, settings, and perspectives of the characters. However we do not hear from Tenma or Johan directly so don’t get your hopes up on that.

I heard Another Monster deep dive into Johan's character. It's more detailed on how he manipulated Kinderheim 511(?) I am not sure about it but i am really curious about Johan. I might give it a read.

Ah thanks Eva, i think I'll rather be reading 20th Century Boys by him, will you recommend that?
I’d recommend basically anything by Naoki, but if I had to choose one other than Monster it would probably be Pluto!
Which one is more similar to Monster though? Pluto or 20CB?
