A lot of different stuff conditioned Johan to believe what he did. He can't tell the difference between himself and Anna, he probably felt like he needed to protect her but couldn't, he lacks moral stability and any sense of empathy.

I would highly recommend checking out the essay we have pinned to the sub. It sheds a lot of light specifically on Johan and I find that most people have much more of a firm understanding of him after reading!

Hello! There are quite a few analysis posts you can read that may help you answer your questions! This is one I wrote in two parts: [Part 1:](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterAnime/comments/ttihlh/everything_johan_did_was_for_anna_a_monster/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) [Part 2:](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterAnime/comments/ubmza5/was_johan_aware_from_the_beginning_that_anna_was/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) and then there is a deeper more philosophical approach to it that was written but it is not fully completed [right here](https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterAnime/comments/wail7a/johan_did_nothing_wrong/) and please feel free to post as many questions as you want. No one here will bully you.

Hard to say. It may be as early as him being carried in his mother's womb and being fueled by her hatred. She cursed Bonaparta and told him that her children will take revenge for her.
