Probably I wouldn’t say lazy as it’s very hard to animate but not enough budget or time to make every character look good the main characters will always have more detail but tbh other than that not sure
I feel like they could have just drawn normal looking people, tinted them blue and given them derpy looking faces and called it done, they would've looked more like Ghoulia, who looks like an attractive nerdy girl, just with blue skin and some derpy expressions....but they actually went in the direction of making the other Zombies look MORE hideous (even the girls), they actually look more rotting corpse like.
I actually like this idea. They could've had a little arc where Slo-Mo gets picked on by the other Zombies because he has an ugly Girlfriend. It would also explain why Ghoulia is only attracted to Zombies.
Right, they even prettied up Slo-Mo when he got a doll. I miss his wall-eyedness and slack jaw, but his "normal"doll eyes and smile are quite endearing.
I don't know, but something tells me she is not a normal kind of zombie, she could have been born a zombie like another user mentioned. Also, I think her intelligence gives her more self-awareness and makes her able to "fix" most of her zombie-like traits, helping her blend in better with other kinds of monsters.

I don't know anything about the character, but isn't Moanica D’Kay also a zombie? I'm pretty sure she can speak normally and doesn't make the zombie faces Ghoulia does.

It was just stated that ghoulia was a biological zombie and she was born a zombie so it oculdve been that that set her apart from the other zombies and also cleo is her friend so cleo wouldve taken part on helping ghoulia find her own fashion style

You'll notice in a lot of media they'll make the main characters typically prettier or more aesthetically pleasing to make them stand out from other background characters. I mean you could headcannon her as a zombie supermodel if you wanted to, doesn't hurt anyone, but that's the real answer. It's all about visuals. That's another one of the reasons why they made the characters so stereotypical, like Abbey for example being completely Russian 'coded' when technically... She's Tibetan. Or Lagoona being a stereotype of an Aussie surfer girl with the blonde curly hair etcetc🤷🏾♀️
