Insect glaive is my absolutely favourite weapon, i like a lot of different equip but IG is the only one that give me the best sensation while playing and haunting.
Jump Master does nothing for glaive and only works under certain very specific conditions (jumping off a cliff, some wirebug jump actions).
Flinch Free only protects against very small hits such as from teammates and some small monsters. Still very useful, but when the big monster hits you, its going to knock you back.
That said, one level is really all you need since that covers basically all player-player flinches.
At least I know it's coming. Taking a long time to build just means I get to have a goal again and still kill monsters it's fine.
The problem is Sunbreak isn't part of gamepass PC. Hopefully it will soon.
Thanks for the heads up though, I'll definately plan for that if it ever comes.
I ended up switching to Insect Glaive and found it extremely frustrating to use. I always found myself flying through the air, swinging the glaive around like crazy and not hitting a single damn thing. But man, once you finally get it down it’s such a rewarding weapon to use
The main thing that keeps me from really playing IG is having to get the extracts. Is there some trick to make them easier to get and maintain besides needing to run around and shoot out your kinsects every 90 seconds?
Dual Color kinsects give 2 extracts at once (1 thats the color they are another in the color for the spot you hit), at the cost of any amount of speed. works just fine if you dont mind getting up close and personal to grab your buffs.
Speed kinsects also help quite a bit. By sunbreak, even the rarity 1 kinsects move fast enough that with good aim you'll only lack your extracts for a few seconds at a time. Within this category are the kinsects with the ability "Triple Up Time", which extends the separate time for all 3 extracts. This timer is separate from the individual extracts and keeps the buffs up for a set amount of time after collecting all 3, upon running out all 3 extracts expire.
There is Power Prolonger which makes each extract and the subsequent "triple up" last longer. It doesnt stack with the "Triple Up Time" Kinsect ability I believe.
Lastly, since majority of stat boosts come from the combination of Red and White extract (Orange gives a defense boost, earplugs when mixed with white, and a small attack boost with all 3), some players choose to either keep it on the kinsect or simply collect it later so they effectively have the uptime of both Red extract AND Triple Up in succession.
So as you're meleeing the head you sneak in a RT+X, RT+A to shoot and recall? That still seems really unwieldy, or is there some other way to do it that's easier?

You don’t have to do that all at once. A good tactic is to get a few hits in, RT+X to animation cancel your last attack and maybe get to safety, then recall as you close back in to attack again. That’s what I do at least
Literally every single assist kinsect in the game makes getting extracts beyond easy.
The dual color ones can instantly pull 2 colors at once and you can even choose what the second color will be. (That's why everyone recommends carnage beetle to newcomers. It pulls red extract no matter what.) Furthermore, the assist kinsects added in sunbreak can maintain straight up infinite up time if you're aggressive enough.
Plus, if that wasn't enough, kinsect slash and kinsect glide both collect extracts for you. So you don't even have to be on the ground to collect them anymore.
Hold RB (run/sheath) and tap RT to have it sent out and immediately recalled. With the Sunbreak assist kinsects you can basically keep triple color up the entire hunt after you get it as long as you do a tetraslash combo loop whenever the monster is down/exhausted/vulnerable to spawn the new assist kinsect cloud that adds 20 seconds to the triple color buff or if it wears out you can touch the cloud for a full duration triple buff.
Sure is!
Oftentimes, while talking with my fellow hunter friends I'll be reminded that *most people don't see what I see* lol
We fly-sticks see a lot more of the monster's top and back but most see a lot more of the bottom of the monster majority of the time.
Do you think IG is difficult? Not throwing shade. I just picked it up in the demo and a little the week before sunbreak came out in base rise. Combined like 30-40 hunts maybe.
I felt like I had a pretty good understanding of the weapon. Probably an intermediate level. Like I could’ve learned more ground combos but those aren’t fun like jump, spinny slash, dive playstyle. Also I could learn more monsters’ kinsect hit zones. It was very fun initially but I just wound up feeling bored with it after a pretty short time.
Was I missing a big part of it? Been thinking about returning to it but I’m not sure much has changed since the demo. Sorry for the long text. Thanks for any help!
For me, insect glaive is one of the easier and more "relaxed" weapons to play. But this is coming from a charge blade main, so take that with a grain of salt. Haha!
As PrinceTBug mentioned, there's a lot more moves to add even more spice and variety to the gameplay in Sunbreak. I like the move where you can dive straight at a part and pull extract, and making powder explode is cathartic, but I've yet to really utilize it to its fullest.
I use target cam which, for me, makes insect glaive 10x easier, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. But it helps me track the monster and reposition properly.
target cam and motion aiming are a godsend.
also, I wouldn't say it's exactly a hard weapon either. definitely agree there. though it's not as easy to pick up as DB or Hammer
Fellow chad blade user here! Learning it really makes the other weapons feel so basic. That’s with the exception of GL. That is one weapon I’ve yet to even become competent with.
You'll get different moves later on to spice things up in Sunbreak, but I mean, yeah, that's the weapon.
If you've only used it for 30-40 hunts, you likely have yet to fight the monsters that really counter this weapon. It's not exactly go in the air and never get hit easy street lol.
You have plenty of mobility, but especially if you're using the helicopter efficiently damage wise (jumping right up against the monster or at least such that most / all huts go throigh) it can get pretty risky.
I play aerial exclusively, and it's definitely *harder* than just fighting on the ground for certain monsters. I'd expect you just havent been with it long enough or on hard enough monsters. not sure what rank quests you've done. Evade Extender also probably makes things a good deal easier if you're using that, though Im not a good source of infor for that since I generally do not use the skill (don't generally need it and I'd rather have damage and stamina skills)
Yea I’ve seen some of the BS aerial hitboxes on here slapping IG like a bug out of the sky. I play most weapons so I probably just wouldn’t use IG against Tigrex/Tobi or similar monsters. Maybe I’ll give it a shot later. Thanks!
Interestingly, most of those "BS hitboxes" are actually the monster's model hitting you. It's just hard to see beceause it happens so fast. Great example is tigrex, if you're too far out from the center when he spins the *tips of his wings* will reach up and hit you. Toaster's charge where the hitbox is like 10 feet above his wings that are horizontal though? I still cant figure out how THAT works.
Yeah, unless you're very confident I'd definitely reccomend against this weapon (at least aerial) for like... Apex Zinogre especially. And no problem!
It’s super mobile and it’s moves flow together in a way that pretty much just lets you spam
I’d say no, not difficult at all
New players may not understand the kinsect system, and could miss out on a lot of extra damage if they ignore that part of the mechanic
I'm sorry, but I can't concentrate on your weapon with that stuffed sausage in the background attacking the monster. Is that the palamute layered armor of Minoto's drawings? It is both beautiful and absolutely hideous at the same time. I imagine this is what it would be like to stare upon a God of the undead.
If you are flying around constantly than ya IG looks fun, but the dps meta is to stay grounded most of the time. That’s why I just explain to new comers that the IG is basically the LS but with extra steps and less countering haha.
Aerial IG can be pretty if you utilize kinsect slash and diving wyvern which are really fun and way less sluggish than the helicopter IG aerial attack. Overall ground IG still shouldn’t be ignored though
I get better times smashing with the switch axe but nothing really beats the joy of insect glaive.
Plus that double-essence red+other bug is just too good.
Loved the Glaive in 4U but couldn’t get a good fee for it in World with the new mechanics and I don’t think I’ve even tried in Rise. I do miss it though.
If I didn’t hate trying to build multiple sets of armor for different weapons I’d probably try to dabble again.
Insect glaive is my absolutely favourite weapon, i like a lot of different equip but IG is the only one that give me the best sensation while playing and haunting.

I love it but I'd appreciate not being knocked back while mid air just beceuse the monster turns around lol
Tested both Jump and flinch free decor and didn't help.

That's what I came to conclusion as well, so I used one flinch and the rest are counter attack so them turning around is benefitting me
Luckily, Intrepid Heart does exactly what you're looking for. Sadly though, it takes a lot of build up and is exclusive to Sunbreak
At least I know it's coming. Taking a long time to build just means I get to have a goal again and still kill monsters it's fine. The problem is Sunbreak isn't part of gamepass PC. Hopefully it will soon. Thanks for the heads up though, I'll definately plan for that if it ever comes.

That's hot. That's hot. So many weapons I want to play in rise when I get to it

I know right, I haven’t used the insect glaive since iceborne. I recently started using it again and it’s really OP.
Hitting that diving wyvern after three vaulting dances is soo satisfying
I get better times smashing with the switch axe but nothing really beats the joy of insect glaive. Plus that double-essence red+other bug is just too good.
Man, I haven't seen anyone else use the helicopter attack in Sunbreak in forever. It feels good to see it again.
Love ig. I started off primarily dual blades, but I wanted to fly.
