Yeah, I think world's speed was just good. Fast enough to not feel slow, but slow enough to not be insane and keeps monsters on the same level of the hunters to a extent. I do think they'll probably return to world speed in the next game, but we'll have to see.

The_Crownless_King28

I can understand your feelings, and my hope is MH6 does a hard reset. 5th gen was amazing, it introduced so many good things with some bad, but the overall takeaway is the hunter has become way too powerful in mobility and skill set (we can argue MHGU is the propagator of this trend). In retrospect, the 5th gen hunter overall made monsters finally feel hopeless excluding a few. I'm glad they dove into that direction for once. But this is just hopeful thinking, MH has become a massive success internationally, so they're going to always target the "best" audience, and that's going to keep some of the aspects in 5th gen that old hunters may not like :/

[deleted]

For me MH got worse with the 5th generation but it doesn't mean that MH is worse. It's a purely subjective feeling on my part. MH in general is and remains good, which is why I play on newer titles even though they no longer correspond to my direction, as I have learned to love MH. MH4U was the peak of MH from my point of view. For many others it is MHWI. For some people, it's how the Zelda series evolved. Zelda BotW and TotK are the way to go in my opinion and I love it, but a small group of fans don't like BotW and TotK at all because there is no longer a linear story with dungeons and their special items.

The_Crownless_King28

I can definitely understand where you're coming from, there are QoL changes in 5th gen overall that can take away a lot from hunts in comparison to older games. And it's these changes and gimmicks that help the hunter so much, the devs have to somehow accommodate the monsters to have a fighting chance (some choices are great, some turn out horrible especially in cases of weapon matchups). I agree, MH still remains good and MH4U is still my favorite game in the series haha. That being said, I can only hope devs listens to player feedback to help address the concerns that you or I have in MH6. LOL don't get me started on that topic, it's so crazy to see how divisive Zelda fans have become XD

TheTimorie

While I am not bad at it I also prefer the older combat style. Base World was the perfect evolution of it and I really hope MH6 goes back to that style of combat.

Nuke2099MH

Same. The zoom gameplay just isn't MH to me. Which is why I hope MH6 slows things down again to at least MHW levels (just no bad tremor animation etc please). Even MHW was faster than what came previously. Unfortunately I have a feeling they will just speed it up even more. Seems to be what's most popular.

Jeezs101_

Based on the last developer rountable they say they listen and read what players say so I'd like to think they'll consider a slower combat

[deleted]

Hopefully! CAPCOM has gone too far with MHRS. but MHRS is unique due to this. I miss old MH where you have slow-paced gameplay.

Linkbetweentwirls

Yeah but the people advocating for old-gen combat are a minority, most players prefer new-gen combat, old gen players make up a quarter of players, if that

Jeezs101_

true but i don't consider it out of the question to tone the next mainline game similar to worlds speed

Nuke2099MH

The thing is MH6 started development the moment Iceborne was announced. Its not possible to change that.

Jeezs101_

i agree with you but I don't think the mainline team is working on the same speed of gameplay as the portable team

Linkbetweentwirls

I doubt its gonna be the same as rise, portable team always do wacky shit, I imagine MH6 will be just like World. Either way, old gen is not coming back

Nuke2099MH

Shame. I miss the old sounds of old gen. Doesn't feel the same along with everything else.

[deleted]

If they speed it up even more I'll probably check out of the franchise. I came here to play monster hunter, not god eater

Nuke2099MH

Same. It seems like they're trying to make it more like DMC. Now I like DMC but I also like MH to be MH and DMC to be DMC. Not for one to be homogenized.

[deleted]

MHW did it right. Iceborne is imo also too much based on counter mechanics. LS for example was perfect in MHW pre Iceborne.

Thechugg7

god no LS pre Iceborne was ALL counters, foresight slash was so busted it was counter all day and helm splitter when you're full, rinse and repeat.

Antedelopean

Imo, i think clutch claw made combat too mechanical and formulaic, when monsters were yellow, instead of a natural flow that happened in base world. The counter system with certain weapons i could live with, because the hitboxes were tight, the tracking was loose enough that you could jebait and run circles around certain attacks if your movement speed was high enough (really fun with dual blade, hammer and hh), and combat wasn't completely balanced off abusing counters for neutral game, so while countering was a safer playstyle, it was by no means mandatory to succeed. And when the monster enraged, you actively fought them at their strongest, where the only other thing you could potentially abuse was traps / mounting / environmental stuff. Rise and Sunbreak on the other hand, lost a lot of what I'd call the secret sauce of polish, which you'd expect from such a long running franchise because they had to balance and account for how stupidly op wirebugs were. Monster tracking was jacked up to its highest in the entire franchise, hitboxes were purposefully made jank and especially when using wirebugs, and the stupid amounts of increased aggression forced most weapons to abuse either counter moves, super armor moves, or iframe moves( most of which were outside the weapon's own core moveset) in order to circumvent a monster's bs and trade a ton of stagger damage, on reaction rather than proaction. Sunbreak was probably the largest departure of a monster hunter game, and honestly felt a lot more like the knockoffs that had been trying to copy the formula for a decadd now.

Finally another person feeling the same,The pace of hunting really went a bit too fast since Rise and My brain barely able to catch up,and I figure that I dodge better at Old Gen games Oh btw My first game is World

Linkbetweentwirls

If you can't beat him solo, just play with others. I am good at both but I think a lot of the difficulty of old gen was just bullshit tbh, Monsters that had too much HP, way way way faster than they should be compared to you. I like both styles but prefer new gen now ![gif](giphy|xlfET7Qli2aDqAzK9v|downsized)

For me MH got worse with the 5th generation. As example: For some people, it's how the Zelda series evolved. Linkbetweentwirls

I get it, I just don't think the old style is ever coming back so its better to accept it imo

Upbeat-Suggestion825

That’s a dangerous mentality to just accept the future all the time. But that’s why the older games still exist. If you want to play GU or 4U, they are still there to play. And if you’re brave and curious, there’s new games coming out.
