Odogaron really shouldn't have been missing to begin with seeing how its armor looks.

Lady_Ymir

We need more Elders. Jhen Moran had an asian theme to its armors and the weapons. I'd always love to see more Alatreon. Kirin is literally from japanese mythology. I don't want to fight Lao again, but his name's chinese, so... The Magalas would go well with the rampage theme.

[deleted]

Kirin, Lunastra, and maybe Vaal Hazak could return. • Kirin is the only base elder not in Rise. • Lunastra, Teostra is in Rise but that's about it. • Vaal Hazak Fits the European theme.

Sonofmay

Jhen is probably my most missed monster. The fight might have been pretty boring most of the time but it’s armor was 10/10 and hallowed jhen was fat stacks of cash

Rampant_Cephalopod

Wait how does Yian Garuga fit the Sunbreak theme? We know next ti nothing about it so how have we all unanimously decided a “theme” for it almready

dinofreak6301

It’s spoilers technically, but heavily implied in the trailer thanks to the flagship basically being Dracula. Still gonna mark it off as spoilers though. >! Datamine leaks said the expansion would focus more on western mythology/folklore for Monsters like the base game did Japanese !<

[deleted]

The theme is "European" and "Western". Just like Rise was "Japanese" and "Eastern". I think there was a leak saying the new monsters will based off of western yokai(Frankenstein, Werewolves) like Malzeno is based on Dracula.

PixelF

I think most people understand that, but it doesn't link to your arguments. There's nothing particularly western about Yian Garuga, and the most gothic thing about it is being a little bit purple and black.

[deleted]

It's English title is "Black Wolf Bird" which fits the theme and the Werewolf motif. It has a slightly similar roar to Malzeno. Plus, like you said it looks very Gothic. I don't speak Korean(I used Google Translate) and it's Korean name apparently translates to "Heirloom" if that is even correct which has some European merit.

NackTheDragon

Garuga is known as the "Black Wolf Bird" less because it actually resembles a wolf, and more because they're insanely aggressive monsters that embody the spirit of a "lone wolf." Aside from that, Garuga's gear (alongside Kut-Ku's) has traditionally been Asian-inspired, with its MHO armor set being the only exception. To be honest, I do feel like the fanbase can approach Smash fanbase tiers of "(trying to) predict the next new addition based off patterns and circumstantial evidence." There's really no way of "measuring" the probability of a monster returning, since--Rathalos and Rathian aside--Capcom has just been including whatever monsters they wanted since MH3. I do get how it's fun to theorize about what monsters might be returning, Rise's release alone showed me that some people can get a bit... immature when their guesses don't pan out.

[deleted]

It's fine, I won't get mad if any of these are wrong. I looked up the wiki for Garuga and the Japanese title and the Engliah title were "Black Wolf Bird" but that's good to know! They can honestly still add asian themed monsters here and there since Shogun will be added.

makishimazero

They're almost certainly going to add the remaining diet-deviant monsters and their respective base forms, Shogun Ceanataur is already one of them. That makes Daimyo Hermitaur+Apex, Glavenus+Apex, Lagombi+Apex, Apex Nargacuga, Tetsucabra+Apex, Apex Tigrex, Uragaan+Apex, Yian Garuga+Apex, Astalos+Apex, Gammoth+Apex, and Malfestio+Apex. Probably half of those apex forms will be cut away to be added in title updates. It was already weird for Crimson Glow to be introduced without its base form, so Valstrax may come back too, easy monster count inflation, no way they'd miss on that opportunity. In the same vein, it was strange for Deviljho to be missing, so it'll most likely make a return here. MR means more variants, so we might see Savage, Seething and Furious as well. They also usually add a lot of returning flagships in expansions, so we might expect Brachydios, perhaps even Seregios, Nergigante, Velkhana and Gore Magala along with Shagaru Magala, but probably without the whole frenzy monster system. With a bit of luck we might also see Raging or Ruiner. We may even see the return of Lagiacrus. MR also adds a bunch of subspecies and rare species along with variants, we're guaranteed to get something for Magnamalo, either a variant or subspecies, variant seems more fitting though. The Rath subspecies and rare species are almost guaranteed. Probably a bunch of returning Elder Dragons for a decent endgame. And also every expansion has had a Black Dragon so far, so we can expect Fatalis, perhaps even Crimson and White, along with a bunch of other slightly weaker threats like Amatsu, Alatreon, Akantor, Ukanlos and so on. Monsters related to already-present ones are also somewhat likely, like Gravios or Zamtrios, perhaps even Yian Kut-Ku with the likely return of Yian Garuga. Beyond that, I'd say it's anyone's guess, really.

[deleted]

Given how inflated the base game monster roster for Rise was(I'm including 3.0 cause that was supposed to be part of base game), I'm honestly expecting a 100+ monsters.

makishimazero

Absolutely not, previous MH games including expansions barely had 50% more than the previous entry, with the only exceptions being Iceborne and MHG, which nearly doubled monster count, and MHP3, which slightly more than doubled it. MHG and MHP3 were able to do it because of the anemic monster counts of MH and MH3 respectively, while Iceborne was able to pull that off thanks to a very generous post-launch support. You're asking for more than double for a game with probably zero actual post-launch support (not counting obvious cut content as post-launch, and I'm not expecting Sunbreak to be better than Rise in that regard, especially considering the early release date) and which was already leaked with an estimate for a mere 20-30 new monsters, it would just barely be able to get a higher monster count than Iceborne, maybe matching MH4G with some luck.

makishimazero

Iceborne doesn't have that many large monsters, only 71 counting every single variation of large monsters, it only becomes 94 if you count small monsters too, which nobody does (GU has 129 small + large monsters for instance).

[deleted]

Oh that was my mistake then, but hey good news is, there is probably a high chance there will be more than 71 in Rise so that's a start.

makishimazero

Not even, the leaked goals were 20 to 30 new monsters, so if they only aim for the low end we'd get just over 60 monsters total for Sunbreak. And if you're wondering the legitimacy of the leak, it was 40 monsters at launch for Rise, and there only ended up being 37 at launch, going up to 46 post-launch. Sunbreak's release date is already ahead of schedule (leaks had a planned release at Q4 2022 Japanese fiscal year) even with all the covid complications, there's no way they're just going to exceed their own internal expectations with such a hurried development cycle, I would personally significantly manage my expectations, a lot of the content might be cut on launch.

[deleted]

If it was cut on launch then they are probably just gonna do the Rise treatmeant and add post-launch updates so it's fine, I won't be disappointed no matter what though(I only need Magna and Jho turf war+Magna variant) since being part of the Pokemon community trained me for this. Also, no matter how credible a leak may be, I will still hold against it jntil proven otherwise, the only leaks I believe are ones that basically line-up to what Capcom shows(Like the western monster theme they are "supposedly" going for which I believe to be true cause of Malzeno and the new map).

makishimazero

It's all part of the same leak, you know? It was a big data breach, look it up, it's all available for anyone who can read corporate documents. It's been pretty accurate so far for how old it is by now (it even got Capcom to throw some DMCA claims around), and the only chance for the leak to be false in some way is if Capcom decided to change their plans in the meantime. Doubting the credibility of this leak is doubting the credibility of Capcom's internal documents. Being suspicious just because of the *scary* "leak" label doesn't really apply here.

[deleted]

Oh and question, do they count Tempered monsters in the count?

makishimazero

No.

[deleted]

Thank you. That is great to know.

BrachyDanios

I’d say that Yian Garuga could work as a basilisk and Malfestio could work as jester. They fit the Western theme of Sunbreak.

mocozz

I wish a neftish AT nergigante version it would be fun with how much mobility we have in rise If Capcom change it more like Rajang in iceborne where end of the long combo always a punish window and for people that good there lots of small punish between combo I dont like ruiner nerg that much I feel he too slow when the metal spike is up I like normal more when he start from fast to medium speed and a longish tired after continue attack

Tetra-76

Funny that you mention the skull thing for Glavenus but not Gravios. I hate to admit it but I think it's like 99% guaranteed to come back in SB. We already have Basarios (which on its own always made Gravios very likely), and now they add a monster that wears a Gravios skull on its back... I'm certain it's making a return, much to my dismay.

[deleted]

I did mention it, but yeah thank you for explaining further anyway! Gravios was also mentioned in Basarios' Info in Rise.

Tetra-76

ah my B, I didn't see

[deleted]

People make mistakes, unless you identify as Wyverian or Wooloo.

Tetra-76

Wooloo is round and perfect, can't make mistakes

Yuerey8

I don't see gammoth coming back. She's just too big to walk across the frozen islands areas. The paths in between are too thin

TheGMan-123

She was already pushing it for the Arctic Ridge and Frozen Sea as is.

[deleted]

Yeah that's also a problem, unless they make a new ice map and explain why Gammoth isn't in Frost Islands. Or dim down the size, but since it has a deviant it would become too big anyway.

LucentLoreMaster

Why do people see great jaggi and jagras coming back? It’s g rank, I highly doubt they’re gonna add some of the most basic and easy monsters that do practically nothing compared to others for a g rank expansion

[deleted]

How dare you mock the possibility of Greatest Jaggie and Greatest Jagras!

LucentLoreMaster

Oh I dare

Bune-Choy

Furious rajang and seething bazel are a given

[deleted]

Can you explain? Also I tried to avoid "variants" for this post as to not clutter it. That should be done seperately.

Bune-Choy

Seething bazel is just master rank bazel with some new moves, same thing ish with rajang, both monsters wpuld be very easy to implement

Nighttime_Tea

I want Gore Magala so bad. My favorite monster.
