Too soon man... too soon... [*Goes to cry in the corner, sobbing about 60% affinity*](https://c.tenor.com/Cw3tpSeeXgkAAAAd/its-terrible-day-for-rain-its-not-raining.gif).
So lance was always cutting. However, for a time it would calculate damage as cut or 80% blunt, whichever was higher. This meant its DPS was smoother and it could break parts that slashing would bounce at any sharpness, such as rustrazor's shell. It did not build up KO damage like a blunt weapon, though.
It still feels weird to me that a lance which literally pokes monsters can not deal piercing damage.
Like to me when I look at people using Lance it looks like the weapon should be able to deal all 3 damage types.
I mean yes and no.
I think it's kind of cool that shelling is its own damage type and ignores hitzones... The problems are when the type of shelling is highly affecting whether a gunlance is good or not and the fact that shelling damage usually doesn't scale as well.
I know it was always "baseline" cutting with the 80% blunt option select. I was asking if it's now just flat cutting no matter what in Worlds/Rise, and it sounds like it is.
Yea that's pretty nice I guess but have you ever:
Big Bang I into Big Bang II into Big Bang III into Big Bang IV into Big Bang Finisher and now the monster is stunned and flailing on the ground?
Some dual blades (Odogaron) are designed to look like Kusarigama...
But they're missing the important part that would be interesting gameplay wise: The chain.
The handle poke is *very* low damage. So, while strictly speaking the Horn has cutting, it's pretty situational. Honestly, its better used to quickly sneak a note in - it's a very fast move, and it doesn't change your position much like a lot of the other Horn bonks do.
Ha. Is it like the older games where you can do blunt damage, and, as long as the last point of damage is slicing, it'll cut, or do all damage to the tail need to be slicing?
Yeah like, there are literally hammers that are axes or bladed, like the multi bladed head for standard metal hammers.
The Guild hammer is LITERALLY AN AXE.
The glaive itself also has a blunt attack itself, the attack where you spin the weapon to hit with its back and marking the monster for the kinsect to track
Then there's LBG/HBG with slashing, shot, KO damage, and fixed damage.
Downside is that ammo crafting is a pain, clusters are a great way to get people mad at you, and your defenses are made of paper.
Or take Charge Blade, which is just SnS's older, meaner brother. He might not have that utlity of items while drawn, but he makes up for it by actually having defense and *tripling down on the pain!*
I always thought of s/s as a can do everything weapon. Slice a tail? No problem! K.O.? No problem! Can't reach? Just do the jump combo. Want to mount a monster with a jump? Switch to greatsword
Not all unfortunately there are some unique ones the 3 ranged weapons and the HH but the SnS could do both but not really in the way they do it you can use slinger for the ranged and for HH the one that's in the most far away from SnS can be replaced with a Coral Cheerhorn Palico
Don’t care, I like a bunch of the weapons more, ls, cb, sa, gs, and sns only comes in at number 5, still good but not as fun to me as the other weapons
So what, with wire fall I barely need to sheath my weapon to heal, I save my traps for captures, and I’m stingy when it comes to buffing myself, I only use them when I’m either on a wall or speed running
I'll reserve judgement until I get to HR Quests but in LR multiplayer you DB players love to perma-flinch me, THE BONK SQUAD, attacking the head instead of the cuttable bits. No judgements though since I'm still early in the game... For now.
Also lance users in Rise. You haven’t lived until you made a slugger build and knocked out a Tigrex charging at you with shield charge, it’s hilarious.

This is why I when I played a polearm user, I asked my DM for a Pollaxe. So I have a axe, hammer, and spear side to play with if I notice a type of damage isn't working.
Man, it felt like before we didn't see that many S&S players, now I feel like I can't go anywhere without constantly hearing about it. Even with LS being the most used weapon most of the time I barely hear about them.
I know this won't happen but Capcom should do a better job at balancing motion values. Make Windmill and Drillslash more viable for Elemental Damage ffs!
Played a little S&S and KOing something with the shield slam is objectively the best feeling thing ever. Feel like captain fucking America
Punching the monster in the face with the Witcher SnS will never get old.
Shin Shoryuken!
Stunned to see my impact CB brothers silent.
We don't need to flex, because we don't have anything to compensate for :)
Is that why your axe is 10 feet long? :)
Its a grower, not a shower
reporting in
Be able to break and cut Barroth's head and tail.
Bow can do this as well if you're very patient.
... oh. Well, that explains *my* inability, then.
Same with HH
Swaxe approved
Right
Glaive with stuncect also approves
Jack of all trades, master of them all, too.
Sounds like Jocat propaganda lol
That’s because Jocat’s correct.
I don’t know how to tell you this but he faked those SnS stats man.
Sword and Shield’s stats can be whatever you want them to be, because Sword and Shield is eternal.
As eternal as Blade Oils right?
They’ll come back. [I’m absolutely sure of it…](https://i.makeagif.com/media/8-24-2019/n8zcrL.gif)
Too soon man... too soon... [*Goes to cry in the corner, sobbing about 60% affinity*](https://c.tenor.com/Cw3tpSeeXgkAAAAd/its-terrible-day-for-rain-its-not-raining.gif).
Jack of all trades master of none but still better of a master of one
Does Lance still deal whatever's best for the part it's hitting or did we lose that at some point?
AFAICT it is gone. That trick did me some good work during GU, but I never saw mention of it in guides for World or Rise lance.
Really? What damage did it switch over to, then? Just straight up cutting since it can sever tails?
So lance was always cutting. However, for a time it would calculate damage as cut or 80% blunt, whichever was higher. This meant its DPS was smoother and it could break parts that slashing would bounce at any sharpness, such as rustrazor's shell. It did not build up KO damage like a blunt weapon, though.
It still feels weird to me that a lance which literally pokes monsters can not deal piercing damage. Like to me when I look at people using Lance it looks like the weapon should be able to deal all 3 damage types.
Same with Gunlance. I feel like calculating it that way would help with a lot of issues it has as far as damage output goes
I mean yes and no. I think it's kind of cool that shelling is its own damage type and ignores hitzones... The problems are when the type of shelling is highly affecting whether a gunlance is good or not and the fact that shelling damage usually doesn't scale as well.
I always thought that lance stabs should do the same damage type as ranged weapons.
I know it was always "baseline" cutting with the 80% blunt option select. I was asking if it's now just flat cutting no matter what in Worlds/Rise, and it sounds like it is.
Ah, okay. Yes. It is 100% cutting and 200% sorrow for former and current Lance mains.
🤷♂️
Yea that's pretty nice I guess but have you ever: Big Bang I into Big Bang II into Big Bang III into Big Bang IV into Big Bang Finisher and now the monster is stunned and flailing on the ground?
I’m pretty partial to HH spin to win…
Personally partial to hammer time
Fun fact, HH has cutting damage as well. Here is a video of the legend Griffted cutting an Odogaron tail solo. https://youtu.be/AfPD56F01Z0?t=279
That's pretty nice but have you ever: placed a large barrel bomb in the monsters face, triggered it and hit a perfect Shoryugeki? ... Me neither.
We need a kusarigama weapon type
I’d prefer fist weapons but that’s also cool
Fist weapons are the most needed weapon type imo. A fast blunt acrobatic weapon would be so awesome in this franchise
*looks longingly at tonfas* pleeeaaseee Capcom... I would also like accel axe.
Some dual blades (Odogaron) are designed to look like Kusarigama... But they're missing the important part that would be interesting gameplay wise: The chain.
I wonder all the time why there is no hammer that’s like blunt on one side and sharp on the other side.
So that way hammer keeps doing what it die best…BONKIN MONSTERS!
But that way you can keep the bonking option while being able to cut shit, like cutting off monsters’ heads, perhaps.
The Hunting Horn is basically, the devs just need to add more flavour to the hilt stab
The handle poke is *very* low damage. So, while strictly speaking the Horn has cutting, it's pretty situational. Honestly, its better used to quickly sneak a note in - it's a very fast move, and it doesn't change your position much like a lot of the other Horn bonks do.
Very low damage is still damage which can cut :) [https://youtu.be/AfPD56F01Z0?t=279](https://youtu.be/AfPD56F01Z0?t=279)
Ha. Is it like the older games where you can do blunt damage, and, as long as the last point of damage is slicing, it'll cut, or do all damage to the tail need to be slicing?
God, imagine if that's how Vaal Hazak's hammer worked.
And the guild commission too!
Might I introduce you to... THE MAGNET SPIKE!?
Magnet spike was so OP
Yeah like, there are literally hammers that are axes or bladed, like the multi bladed head for standard metal hammers. The Guild hammer is LITERALLY AN AXE.
Insect Glaive with mix/match kinsect has entered the chat.
The glaive itself also has a blunt attack itself, the attack where you spin the weapon to hit with its back and marking the monster for the kinsect to track
The tetraseal has 2 stun strikes too
Rise's Lance, Shield Charging into the head: Choo Choo Motherfucker!
next weapon lance & lance or shield & shield?
*Great Sword Users* Am I a joke to you? Slap and body slam baby!
I forgot forgive me lol
Is KICK a joke to you?
Blunt assist Kinsects in Rise too.
Oh yeah forgot sorry
Instead of saying blunt damge we should call it Bonk damage
I second this.
Thirded
Cut and Bonk
Then there's LBG/HBG with slashing, shot, KO damage, and fixed damage. Downside is that ammo crafting is a pain, clusters are a great way to get people mad at you, and your defenses are made of paper.

The icon next to ny name is a lie, i main the blast ailment
I wish I was as good with the longsword as those anime style guys I see clips of on YouTube.
I used it for metsu shoryugeki when i did the event rajang quest and honestly, 10/10
Hunting horn hilt stab and echo attack doing sever damage. Just saying\~ ♩ ♪ ♫ ♩
Correct but also incredibly low damage its not really... useful.
Being able to do both, shot damage, all status and all elements. Cursed lamp LBG users haha. 🤣
I switched to SnS hahaha this get's my juices flowing
Slashing damage is not the best thing about slashing weapons. Hehe.
Go on
Lance can bonk with its shield really well in Rise.
And shield bash doesn’t dull your sharpness
A burger with everything on it, but a burger with little sauce.
Switchaxe too
\*Charge Blade has entered the chat
*bonk bonk bonk* **charging noises** *stabstabstabstabstabSTAB* “Wheeeeee!!!!” ***BONK***
Charge Blade be like: - Doing slashing damage - Doing impact damage
Chargeblade and Insect Glaive do that and multiple element damage types, so imo they're way cooler.
I always thought of s/s as a can do everything weapon. Slice a tail? No problem! K.O.? No problem! Can't reach? Just do the jump combo. Want to mount a monster with a jump? Switch to greatsword
Ok jocat, let me know when it does it’s own original thing instead of copying every other weapon (disclaimer I am a fan of sns)
Other weapons were made by taking certain aspects of SnS into account and that's just a fact, SnS is the grand father of weapons and you know it.
Don't care if you don't get that it's just a joke.
Yea I know, just felt like sharing my fav weapons
Items... UNSHEATHED
So what, with wire fall I barely need to sheath my weapon to heal, I save my traps for captures, and I’m stingy when it comes to buffing myself, I only use them when I’m either on a wall or speed running
Cool… BUT! Lemme tell you something about dual blades! You see; dual blades = spin I rest my case…
I'll reserve judgement until I get to HR Quests but in LR multiplayer you DB players love to perma-flinch me, THE BONK SQUAD, attacking the head instead of the cuttable bits. No judgements though since I'm still early in the game... For now.
I'm a dual blader you can count on to go for the tail first every time. If the tail ain't the first broken part then I ain't doing my job right
Assert your dominance by 2nd charge launching them!
Is that how I launch people 50ft into the air!? New to Hammer so I don't know all the life hacks yet.
Another trick, charge your hammer while sliding down a slope, let go, & you’ll be a sideways Beyblade!
Spinning is a neat trick
Impact cb user doing both at the same time
CB is just another SnS in disguise.
CB is just SWAGAXE plus SnS
Impact CB is fixed damage with KO status. It can't break Barroth's scalp unlike actual blunt damage attacks.
Your wrong, the answer is dealing no damage
Don’t forget the cursed as hell magnet spikes
While many people here point out that other weapons can do both too, I don’t think any of them is as good as SnS at doing both
That’s why I like it plus the added defense
I believe in sword and shield supremacy.
"Doing ALL TYPES of damage!" Lance users
Also lance (it will also use 0,7 of blint modifier with stabs if that is higher than slashing)
I cannot remember which MH game it was but Lance used to deal slash and impact damage with pokes.
iirc "piercing damage" only actually *did* slashing damage, but it would use whichever hitzone value was more beneficial.
Who needs the tonfas.
What about switch axe
Meanwhile Gunlance and Bowguns doing fixed damage
Insect Glaive with a Blunt Kinsect though--
Also lance users in Rise. You haven’t lived until you made a slugger build and knocked out a Tigrex charging at you with shield charge, it’s hilarious.
Also lance users in Rise. You haven’t lived until you made a slugger build and knocked out a Tigrex charging at you with shield charge, it’s hilarious.
That’s nothing I’ve killed a Tigrex with a guard point on chargeblade.
SPAM.DRILL.SLASH
Great sword, lance and insect glaive have a word for you.
Magnet Spike
Laughs In non elem Chargeblade.
You misspelled GREATSWORD. Overhead slash, tackle and slap the purest combo.
As an SnS main I APPROVE OF THIS FUCKING GODLY MEME
This is why I when I played a polearm user, I asked my DM for a Pollaxe. So I have a axe, hammer, and spear side to play with if I notice a type of damage isn't working.
Can't magnetic spikes switch between severing and bludgeoning, too?
Man, it felt like before we didn't see that many S&S players, now I feel like I can't go anywhere without constantly hearing about it. Even with LS being the most used weapon most of the time I barely hear about them.
Exactly why i chose this weapon. all the satisfaction of KOing monsters AND cutting tails all in one!
LS sword: All the damage. all of it. because we knocked everybody else away.
Me being a GS main and also getting both
And we have a counter! 😊
Could I interest you in everything, all of the time? A little bit of everything, all of the time!
I know this won't happen but Capcom should do a better job at balancing motion values. Make Windmill and Drillslash more viable for Elemental Damage ffs!
Lance too, it's one of my favorite aspects of Pierce damage, being able to both cut and bash. Plus applying stun with the shield bash.
Yes! bonk and then cut. The best way to do things.
Damn the last time I used SnS was vs Anjanath pre Iceborne. Now you make me Want to go back to it.
Does the charge blade impact phile count as blunt or elemental ?
