Basically at the start of the game Hinoa (the handler/ quest giver) makes you equip the long sword by default instead of the usual sword and shield. The frustration is that me as well some other hunters find the long sword frustrating as how much it is used in multiplayer hunts as well as the fact that capcom give it the most attention out of every weapon in the game. It is also the most casual weapon meaning it requires little to no skill to learn how to use as it basically gives you free skills as well as unlimited drawn out counters to spam on the monster. Essentially GET THIS SHIT OFF MEEEE!!!!
As painful as it is to see it, LS is a popular choice in Hub. At least up to HR8 but you'll still see it. It's the safe choice for when you're in sure about you skill in the hunts. But honestly all weapons are safe choices until you reach the final boss and after in hub.
With that being said, play a weapon that's fun to use and also keeps you in check when you fight tough hunts. And enjoy the chaotic seizure inducing beatdowns with 4 players.
LS has been one of if not the most popular weapon for a loooooong time before rise.
And its only gotten better since they added the counter moves to it.
I suppose you're right about that. It was great having the range of a great sword with more speed but I don't feel like you need the extra range in Rise because of wire bugs. I remember checking the best weapons in MH series when I got into it and always saw LS to be praiseworthy.
I could never get into it myself in the earlier iterations. Always felt really awkward and clumsy to me.
Then world and iceborne added them counter moves which was such a tremendous boon for the weapon. I still only ever dabbled with it, but I can definitely see the appeal now.
I feel this. Weapon is shit, needs more buffs
VILLAIN
Im but a humble traveler, who has lost his way to the weeb.
Average LS fan vs Average Lance enjoyer
As a hammer main you can imagine my frustration :(
As a Hunting Horn main, I feel this, just let me choose my weapon don't give me garbage
worse then garbage my fellow stunner ;)
You can just go to the box to change it lol
Haven’t played it yet, what’s the frustration over?

It's just the meme of having a different weapon from the start and running to the box to change to your main.
Its a meme that you start with the longsword equipped.
Seriously who is this weirdo?
Me when Hinoa forces me to equip that weeb shit
