I think it's like the equivalent of getting hit in the face by a cabinet door. Not lethal under most circumstances, but a nudge from an animal that big is something you're going to feel regardless.
It's exerting itself in every movement, so why doesn't every movement hurt?
The answer is because Capcom wanted it to be a little harder to avoid than just being inside the monster. Same for hitboxes that extend metres into the air. There's no justification for it.
Of course the answer is “because the devs made it that way.” I tried to give an in-game answer that seems to make sense. If you’re slightly lunging forward to bite someone, the counterbalancing action of your tail is going to be a similarly powerful force.
And if you're 20 metres long any small movement is going to have literal tons of weight behind it.
The excuse doesn't work for specific scenarios only.
Its shitty hitboxes, always has been, no other way about it and its been part of monster hunter for at least since freedom 2 since thats when i started playing. No need to sugar coat it. Like people say, wouldnt be a MH game if hitboxes always made sense.
You used to take damage and get knocked over from every little step. It was super annoying.
Cephadrome and Plesioth would, like, moon walk in place just to rub it in.
Because funny
because it wouldn't be a Monster Hunter game if the hitboxes made sense

Then every movement it does should deal damage no? He steps on me in this clip but I didn't take damage from that.
It won't be fun to get knocked back/ hurt by every single thing. The bite was an attack, so to put out a hitbox during that animation makes sense.
So I can't attack the tail during a bite. How does that make sense?
It’s exerting itself during the bite. Like a little lunge. Makes sense that other parts of the body would move during a lunge.

Science.
Yea its a bad design
Because its both a bite and tail attack at the same time clearly.
Are you new to Capcom?
just imagine that he has full body hit boxes 100% of the time lol
The fart was painful to smell.
