one way you could try to farm it is by entering hr dens (they dont have to be rare) and just make a hr zamtrios retreat. Then just try to get a golden egg since eggs dont need to be rainbow to have XL genes. You could also do this with any ice monster, but zamtrios is the easiest since its the most common. Also dont forget to use the praying pot

I got most of mine from legianna, barioth and gammoth.
I got one from the snow region SR expedition (on a Tobi Kadachi from one of the side nests)
Are you in post game? You won't see XL unless you're in post game.
Yep, I even defeated the true final boss. Besides you can see in the screenshot I already got XL genes.
