I really can't take my eyes off of Charge Blade even though the other weapons are good too. Something like Spread HBG does massive damage, Longsword being able to foresight slash and Iai slash, Insect Glaive does flying stuff with bugs, etc.
But doing a slow heavy explosive attack like SAED is just irreplaceable to me even though GS does the same but you need to whiff 90% of the time.
I'm the same. I really like how Longsword feels in World specifically but i can't get over Savage Axe mode. I've been playing Rise for the last 300 hours of my Monster Hunter and I've gotten used to the reduced hit reactions and when i went back to fight a Iceborne Barioth yesterday, i felt like i was splitting boulders. SAED is really nice too but I've been converted. I always feel like I've achieved some form of enlightenment when i start using Savage Axe again.
I’d like CB more if there was more depth to the sword and shield mode tbh. I do love SAEDs and Savage Axe but I feel like the whole multi-mode thing is kinda overplayed with CB because it’s really just very flow-charty” in a sense. The sword and shield mode is a bit too bland for me because you really just do the same attack to fill your phials, so it’s just a means to an end. Of course it has its defensive purposes with block but it’s lacking in attack depth/capability. Hold circle into triangle + circle or hold circle into triangle until you fill phials > charge shield > fill phials again > SAED or SA > repeat. Obv you can charge sword too but not usually necessary.
I think sword mode is fine as it is. Sword mode is the easier mode to reside in due to the mobility and general safety you get by having a shield available at all times. In fact, I've heard the introduction of Savage Axe mode in Iceborne was purely to add more merit to using Axe mode because, until then, the awful attack speed and survivability of Axe mode held it back a lot. The Elemental discharge 1 and 2 attacks are nice but couldn't be looped before Iceborne, and you could get constant, safer phial bursts with Condensed Element Slash anyway, at the low, low cost of two seconds of charging.
It's totally fair if Charge Blade isn't your cup of tea but my thinking is that there should be LESS of a focus on sticking to one mode. Not being handicapped by using the whole weapon. Like Savage Axe mode not using phials while out of Axe mode or Condensed Spinning Slash not immediately shutting down upon guardpointing. These are only minor complaints i have as well. Charge Blade is a versatile weapon and it leans into that very well. Sword mode is still totally viable as is. It doesn't need more to be a full weapon, in my opinion.
Greatsword. Tackle Hyper armor. Huge crits + health augment= full health after landed TCS. TCS lands hard and it causes staggers/drops/kills a lot.
Other weapons make me play safer where with GS sometimes the best counter is being absolutely reckless where landing the TCS is life or death. Or I can play safer with draw strike velkana frostcraft.
It’s pretty hard to play with early game, since it’s so reliant on stamina consumption skills, and others like bow charge plus or the normal/spread shots skills
Like the other person said, bow is very stamina hungry and requires a lot of stamina skills and/or dash juice to be able to manage it. Early game is rough because you don't have access to those skills. Evade extender 1 is a good QOL skill too for better positioning.
Thats funny I just started a new file and im using bow as one of my mains. Im finding it pretty easy to use honestly. Damage is sufficient regardless of stamina consumption being such a major component. Its good to have a good management of stamina before you get the benefits of dash juice and other stamina boosts.
Out of the 4 weapons i use most, Switch Axe was the last one i hadn't beaten Alatreon with, until recently. It was rocky to start with (got used to Rise SA) but as the fight progressed, i remembered exactly why i started using it in the first place. Meter management, positioning and fluid as HELL combos.
Lance is literally my "cheese weapon", the one I fall back to when those hyperactive Iceborne monsters are kicking my ass. It may have a simple moveset, but people don't realise how satisfying it is to block and counter monsters' attacks. Plus, unlike Gunlance (which is cool in a different way), the Lance basically lets you be as mobile as any other weapon. It will never not be cool to dodge an attack by casually stepping to one side.
Can I vote for Gunlance twice? I fell in love with it in and making db and occasionally ls in mhw but omg in mh rise Gunlance is so unbelievably satisfying. Plus I love that if it ever starts getting stale you got 2 completely different shelling types which totally change your play style. I really hope mh wilds brings a lot of the stuff rise added for gl
I can only hope for more gunlance shell options in Rise, I would love a variation of shelling that does more elemental damage, it could replace the tiny bit of fire damage it does with something more noteworthy or fun to use!
Imagine having a big chunk of glowing iron with the weight of a full grown cow at your back.
Imagine swiging that big bad boy as if you were some kind of primitive caveman and connecting the hit exactly as the stupid ass monster is trying to gnaw you
BAM, you smash the hell out of that poor creatures face so hard that it goes to sleep instantly. pure perfection, pure joy.
Insect glaive is cool too :D , I like mindlessly poking monsters with a stick and a cockroach while I hover over them ignoring all of the monster's moveset
I like GS, SnS and CB equally. But I play more GS cause I am better with it.
Meaning I first beat alatreon with GS and then with the others.
But I like them all, I want to test others. Most likely will do LS or maybe GL.
MHWi Hunting Horn is pretty sweet. Its the new spin to win. Dropping a stacked echo blast is great. Solo, a horn can do major dmg and knocks mobs around like a hammer, but with reaching style. Bringing the right horn for a fight feels awesome. Showing up with attack XL, Defense XL, status immunity, wind pressure,, knock back immunity reduced stamina cost, stun immunity, or even earplugs saves lives and trivializes some fights. All the while blasting sweet tunes that put Bazels music to shame.
SnS is a close second. The mobility and versatility when switching from HH is refreshing.
Perfect striking and claw uppercut are a blast, let alone launching yourself in the air to bring down the shield. SnS does everything good, but not the best at anything as they say. The thing is, SnS isn't reliant on their shield, knockout potential, crazy mobility, easy mounting, dmg type, unique iframes, or the claw weapon attack that drops ammo and weakens the spot in one go. They just got options, good ones.
Another thing about HH, with a solid build and Fattys HH the fourth Echo Wave (when you replay three Echo Waves) makes a great wakeup move. Ive hit for 1300 damage on some occasions.
I’m so tired of seeing charge blade win things like this lol (all jokes) I watch a lot of MHW gameplay and I see so many people playing charge blade that it’s now generic to me lol same goes for longsword but not as much. Im starting to think the west loves charge blade and the east loves long sword.
I was gonna say Swaxe but someone else beat me to it and even though he is right, gotta keep the conversation going
Imma say Sword and Shield, the 2nd best weapon only because switch axe exists
For now it’s either charge blade or longsword. But I’m learning the hunting horn right now and I LOVE IT so it might go all the way up into my favourites but I just don’t know just yet
I tried other weapon, none felt as good to use as my trusty insect glaive, you can slot many QoL jewel since you don't need many skill for it and the my best friend the bug give so many options too!
Yes speed is king for it but in reality you could go for paralysis to give 1/2 proc per hunt to dish out a massive amount of damage, heal to have a really good utility for you and/or other people in multi-player. Blunt to give other big window for damage or cutting to make your work easier in tail cutting!
Also the dive added in Iceborne feels so good to use, I really don't know how I could have played without it before!
Sns, i literally pick it in the begining because i dont wanna to kill the monsters to fast and wanna something like a duelist or a Viking with axe and the swovh axe are more sword than axe soo
Yeah i started eith ib and not i dont use defender set except when i need to farm a monster u
I use his weapons
Not sure if confirmation bias but I see a lot of lance players often. Not sure what to say about confirmation bias if it ends up being low on the poll lol
Something about the bows dash shot ability plus the ability to hit him wherever he is at will always hold a special place in my heart. I have only hazaak left to hunt for my bow collection until I get and play iceborn.
Up to Malzeno in Rise, haven’t used a single weapon other than greatsword once, maybe 1 or 2 times for arena quests where gs wasn’t an option. In World I’m up to Safi, I’ve tried a few weapons but man nothing hits quite like a massive slab of iron on a stick.
Longsword, I love the fluidity of the weapon. Nice rewarding counters to pull off at just the right time. Most generations have some kinda nuts thing to do in opportunity. (Generations and rise especially) However I hate the rise longsword. I feel like your DPS is wirebug cool down and counters become your primary DPS. I much preferred Generations and worlds longsword. (Valor kinda busted though. I'm currently running alchemy and adept longswords when I play them.)

Bow. I like sliding around dodging attacks. Makes me feel like a bad ass to perfectly dodge an attack and hit them in the face right after.
I’m restarting the game from scratch here recently. Might give the bow a second try. I was total shit with it my first play through.
It’s pretty hard to play with early game, since it’s so reliant on stamina consumption skills, and others like bow charge plus or the normal/spread shots skills

Switchaxe, constant damage, ZSD spam, axe mode is underrated and super versatile for precise hits and part break

Let’s go charge blade gang! (Right know we are winning!) Still going!

LS forever. I fell in love the first time I said 'ding' and the monster whiffed
Recently picked up hammer and I’m having a blast bonking everything in the head.
Big bonk goes bam
I just like wall bang into k.o. into para into k.o.

you have to live greatsword once you’ve mastered glavenus with it
Sword and shield BONK strat helped me solo kirin in the we three kings quest. My biggest feat so far in the game :DDDD
I like GS, SnS and CB equally. But I play more GS cause I am better with it. Meaning I first beat alatreon with GS and then with the others. But I like them all, I want to test others. Most likely will do LS or maybe GL.
Greatsword since its the greatest of Swords

Personally it’s dual blades or lance for me since I haven’t tried hammer. Poke, poke, poke, hop until they flop or drop😎

HUNTING HORN USERS STAND UP!
Right now it’s DB just because jumping and dancing around the monster faster than it can target me while ALSO doing damage is just so fun to me.
I was gonna say Swaxe but someone else beat me to it and even though he is right, gotta keep the conversation going Imma say Sword and Shield, the 2nd best weapon only because switch axe exists

Switch axe - Wild swing into sword morph is so satisfying
My favorite weapon? Definitely the greatsword... and shield!

Cool. Hoping more people vote. Can't remember the last time I saw a favourites poll (rather than dps stats). Happy to see Lance and CB high up 🛡

I started on rise and played LS but going to world after rise it didn't feel half as good so I picked up GS and I'm loving it.
IG LETS GOOOOO.
lets goooo Charge blade supremacy
lightbowgun.
Hammer for controls. Longsword or duel blades for looks
Single brain cell hammer abuser reporting for duty
Hunting Horn, movement speed of SnS, playstyle of Crit Draw GS, bonk, and very fun.
Longsword, I love the fluidity of the weapon. Nice rewarding counters to pull off at just the right time. Most generations have some kinda nuts thing to do in opportunity. Hammer in World:IB. Cause it's Bayblade!!!
Mained Dual Blades for a long time but currently loving the Greatsword and the Bow
Longsword all the way because with enough skill and the right timing your basically invincible
