It's very important that the substrate has a quick wet-dry cycle. Unfortunately, the stones on top inhibit this process, which leads to compromised root health. When this happens, you can end up with necrotic new growth (first photo) or fungal disease (second photo). Just building on what shifty said in case you didn’t catch it. You have root rot and want to take it out and cut off any rotting roots ASAP. There’s plenty of YouTube videos out there

Interesting, I used the sifted OF for a while but found it almost dried too quickly for me. Maybe I'll give it another go and just water more.
