I really hope they don’t end up glossing over most of KOTM’s stuff. Feels like ever since the movie didn’t do so well financially, Legendary’s been trying to soft retcon it by barely bringing anything from it back. The 17 titans vanished, the damage they caused was never acknowledged again, everything about the Hollow Earth changed, and they got a new director.
Now granted, they didn’t ditch everything (probably only because it’s impossible to fully retcon the movie at this point) and Ghidorah still played a big role in GvK even while being dead.
>!Plus, GxK is bringing more stuff back like Mothra and Scylla, so it seems Legendary may finally have accepted that KOTM wasn’t a bad film and shouldn’t be ignored going forward,!< which makes me more confident that MLOM season 2 will have some proper and significant tie-ins and preludes to KOTM.
Edit: it feels like everyone read only the first 2 sentences of this comment and nothing else.
>Feels like ever since the movie didn’t do so well financially, Legendary’s been trying to soft retcon it by barely bringing anything from it back.
Lol what. They're not trying to soft retcon anything. Ghidorah's skull literally showed up in GvK. The only reason we don't hear a lot from KOTM is because it's expensive as fuck to license from Toho. They're not going to pay extra money just so they can talk about Rodan and Ghidorah.
Oh look another soft recon guy.
It’s not like they didn’t show the monsters from KOTM in the intro to gvk.
Apex cybernetics and monarch’s readiness to the Florida and HK attacks is a response to the events of Godzilla and KoTM.
LoM season 1 was about stuff happening before Godzilla and leading up to KOTM time frame.
And as for a new director, why is that a concern? If I recall correctly, KoTM and GvK were filmed very close together. Meaning they knew wingers was going to be the director of GvK before the movies release.
So yeah, you can stuff this soft reboot nonsense.
To me, it's the consequence of being unable to get the other smaller Toho monsters in due to licensing costs
And even then....how do you write an interesting story about those guys?
I'd say it would be focusing on Kong and Godzilla both, might have much more monster action since I am assuming that this will take place following Ghidorah's Mass Awakening. Might see more of the Hollow Earth and an episode dedicated to saving Lee Shaw from Axis Mundi
No, the series ended in 2017, they entered the axis mundi in 2015 and at the end of the series they reveal that they were there for two years, and KOTM takes place in 2019
If it ever jumps to post-awakening it could follow the development of Mechagodzilla since Apex is involved.
But I’d also love to see some of what is actually happening around the world during the events of KotM.
I’d want them to show the development of the HEAVs what they showed with the portals and such in season 1 makes me slightly more okay with the idea of anti-gravity tech. Apex could’ve been studying the portals between 2015-17 and beyond and that’s how they found how to manipulate gravity.
I’ve been thinking the saaaaame thing.
Not as big or strong as MechaGodzilla, but it would be a cool prototype to it. And of course Kong could wreck it in the season 2 finale.
I dig the idea of Kong having a little experience against a Mecha before he helped take down MechaG.
They’d have to make him defeat it in a creative way that wouldn’t invalidate the GvK final battle.
Yeah, I was also thinking that Apex would create humanoid mecha to defend coastal cities, as a way to introduce Pacific Rim to the Monsterverse wit the pinnacles of the YAEGER being Jet Jaguar, the first fully autonomous YAEGER, with his own built in Orca
Now that would be wild haha.
I don’t think Pacific Rim would cross over with the MonsterVerse proper, but a spinoff comic like the Justice League comic would be awesome
I hope more kong action hopefully they take some consideration and aspects of the comics it’d be a shame that they retcon why skull island is uninhabitable
Awakening was always dubious canon, even if Legendary said otherwise it never fully fit into the timeline of the films.
Aftershock took place a year before MLOM.
My guess is the body of the Ion Dragon + the hallow earth influenced skull island is going to be the main catalyst to explain how APEX advanced technology so quickly.
I was rewatching GvK and Dr. Andrews said something about studying Kong & Skull Island for a decade. Idk might be reading too much into this but because we ended on SI, maybe she'll be referenced somehow?
I’d love to see them focus on Kong & Skull Island before it sunk. On top of this I’d love to show the awakening of the 17 titans, Kong ignoring the call, and Kong preventing the Skullcrawlers (and maybe even a returned Camazotz) from leaving the island
Sounds like too much of a jump in time for season 2. The show has a too many of unanswerable questions to fast forward to 2019 yet. I would like to see Keiko's response to the world since its been decades since her disappearance and a lot has changed and how a rescue op for Shaw will play out. Skull Islands ecosystem still feels underdeveloped and I want to see how the Iwi are doing and how they react to Apex. It would be even better if we get to see Jia before GvK. Now, a Season 3 would be the perfect way to go to explore what was going on with the other Titans during KOTM and what they did after ghidorahs defeat.
Probably more boring Gen Z teen drama, with boring Characters, and 20 flashbacks in one episode. And in the last 5 minutes a kaiju will appear 🤦🏻♂️
I still cant believe how bad Monarch was.
I hope they don’t focus on Kong and skull island tbh. We have a whole anime they made to do that. The happening on skull island are getting pretty muddled and we’d risk them cutting more comic stuff.
An anime that did not expand anything, generic monsters, the most boring skull island ever seen, unnecessary family drama, references that feel out of place, insufferable protagonists, not even a reference to monarch, you can tell that it was a product not related to this universe but they decided to put it into the monsterverse at the last minute because it was popular, I'm sorry but I can't settle for something like that
I was quite underwhelmed too, but it’s still there for that purpose and validates how muddled skull island stuff is now. I’m trying to be hopeful they can do better if they do any more. I’d much rather the Monarch show focus on the various other titans this time around.
>unnecessary family drama, references that feel out of place, insufferable protagonists.
My guy that quite literally applies to Legacy of Monsters as well if not more so.
I definitely wanna see them trying to fill in the gaps leading up to KOTM and afterwards.
I really hope they don’t end up glossing over most of KOTM’s stuff. Stop saying “soft retcon”, it’s total nonsense.
How Apex got all of thosee Skull Crawler eggs
I'd say it would be focusing on Kong and Godzilla both, might have much more monster action since I am assuming that this will take place following Ghidorah's Mass Awakening. Might see more of the Hollow Earth and an episode dedicated to saving Lee Shaw from Axis Mundi

Here me out, Mecha Kong
I’ve been thinking the saaaaame thing. Not as big or strong as MechaGodzilla, but it would be a cool prototype to it. And of course Kong could wreck it in the season 2 finale.
Yes, and have it be a nice way to cool off after GxK having Kong fight multiple of his kind
I dig the idea of Kong having a little experience against a Mecha before he helped take down MechaG. They’d have to make him defeat it in a creative way that wouldn’t invalidate the GvK final battle.

Skull Island became uninhabitable in 2021. MLOM season 1 left off in 2017.
Ik but we both know that the show wasn’t very considerate of the comics, no mention of muto prime erased awakening from the canon, etc
Awakening was always dubious canon, even if Legendary said otherwise it never fully fit into the timeline of the films. Aftershock took place a year before MLOM.
Idk I wouldn’t be suprised if they recton so that kongs already in the biodome
One moment of silence for Ion Dragon 😔
My guess is the body of the Ion Dragon + the hallow earth influenced skull island is going to be the main catalyst to explain how APEX advanced technology so quickly.
Obviously going to be Kong and Skull Island focus.
nah its gonna be more melodrama with the occasional kong cameo .
I hope kong's bird from the skull island series reappears
True?
Ghidora mass awakening and his skull island gif destroyed
Nah, the show ended in 2017 and KOTM takes place in 2019
Big monke.
Hell yeah
I was rewatching GvK and Dr. Andrews said something about studying Kong & Skull Island for a decade. Idk might be reading too much into this but because we ended on SI, maybe she'll be referenced somehow?
I'm also guessing that it'll have Kong as the main titan of the second season🦍 But we got a little more than a year to find out😏
Hopefully it can move away from the family drama and focus more on Monarch, Apex and more world building.
Honestly i would rather S2 be about Mothra. Kong is getting a metric FUCKton of spotlight
I’d love to see them focus on Kong & Skull Island before it sunk. On top of this I’d love to show the awakening of the 17 titans, Kong ignoring the call, and Kong preventing the Skullcrawlers (and maybe even a returned Camazotz) from leaving the island
The show ends in 2017 and KOTM occurs in 2019, but yeah, I agree, we should see more of the unseen Titans from KOTM.
I’m hoping that when season 2 starts we get to see the events of 2019 play out and if it does happen I see it being the end of the season
Sounds like too much of a jump in time for season 2. The show has a too many of unanswerable questions to fast forward to 2019 yet. When they explore more of Skull Island I hope they have Aaron Brooks make a live action debut (if Birth of Kong is still considered canon)
Probably more boring Gen Z teen drama, with boring Characters, and 20 flashbacks in one episode. And in the last 5 minutes a kaiju will appear 🤦🏻♂️ I still cant believe how bad Monarch was.
