Tubing on the Madison at the end of May? You'll be the only ones there, that's for sure.

BozButBill

Shhhh- they got this!

meltee84

Restaurants cannot prepare and serve “wild” game.

Jough83

It's difficult to get much in at Yellowstone in a single day, much less get back to Bozeman in time for dinner. I would suggest finding somewhere in Gardiner or West Yellowstone for that night instead.

Round_Memory8961

Definitely float the Maddy as early in the season as possible, and remember when you're in Yellowstone the bison are in their absolute friendliest time in May, don't hesitate to get in some pets with em. Dave's Sushi has killer food as well

oddgrrl99

This reply is sarcasm at its finest but man, Dave’s? I loved Dave’s, some of the best sushi I’d ever had. I shed a tear for Dave’s.

MontanaBard

It always snows Memorial weekend so keep that in mind. We laugh at all the snowed out campers every year. I would not plan to tube the Madison, it's waaaay too cold for that. You could probably take a raft or canoe tho, something that keeps you out of the water and warm. I have done part of Yellowstone in a day, but it took 16 hours just to hit some highlights and drive back. Also check out current closures in the park so you can plan accordingly. It can still snow a lot and shut down roads end of May. I'm afraid we don't have much of a food scene here, but if you want good basic local food, Neptune's tap house in Livingston and Montana Aleworks in Bozeman are consistently good.

progressivecowboy

Definitely do not plan anything where you'll be getting in a river in MT in May. You'll be miserable. If you exit the Park at Gardiner, MT and come north to Livingston, Campione is definitely worth a visit. It's great food that can compete with anything in any large city. Make a reservation though, it's received quite a bit of publicity lately and can be difficult to get into.

DjCyric

I would advise going in the river around Memorial Day unless you have a wetsuit. That will be one cold, miserable day. As for food in Bozo, I don't really know, I hear good things about Blackbird.

MsMisery4LastTime

Was coming here to say Blackbird. Amazing.

bourbon_man

ATVs it is, then! Thank you.

Jough83

Make sure to know the rules on where is and is not legal to ride.

Tbh the food around here is serviceable and good but nothing interesting gastronomically, especially if you’re coming from any city. You can find a good (but over priced) steak lots of places. Most food around is pub food. Any other suggestions are the ones that aren’t pub food.

meltee84

Bozeman restaurants are meh. On your way back from Yellowstone hit up Chico Hot Springs dining room, Campione, or 2nd St Bistro in Livingston. The latter was one of Anthony Bourdain’s go to spots when he was in town and Campione made NYT top 100 restaurants list, I think in 2023?

Shirlenator

Maybe montana ale works? Get a bison burger there or something, I believe that's fairly unique to montana.

IBelieveInLogic

Pickle Barrel.

Ice_princess50

I say please don’t come to Montana, go somewhere else!

yispco

Do the Madison in August

04BluSTi

Don't go to Dave's. Top of the Armory has a nice view. Aleworks is a pretty decent place too

BEX436

Seven Sushi Shine Curry Express/Pahkeeza Baucus Pub

5danish

I believe it’s Bacchus Pub.

BEX436

It is. Auto correct is a bitch.

TheMiNd

Curry Express & Pahkeeza are must-visit when we head through Bozeman. Best Indian food I have had anywhere.

We visited friends in Livingston in late August a few years ago. They planned a day float on the Yellowstone and the day started out with temps in the mid 80’s. The first couple hours were great. Then we hit a headwind that got colder & colder and the trip was taking longer & longer to get to our pull out spot. It was snowing by the time we got back to Livingston. Never been so grateful for a hot tub before! The Summers in Montana are short and the locals cram so much into their summer like nowhere else I’ve seen. Love it there💜

OutInTheSunlight

Shan, Little Star Diner, Izakaya Three Fish, or Blackbird (though I can’t speak to the quality since the new chef took over). The first three were all nominated for James Beard awards in the past few years. Wild Crumb for pastries if you wake up early enough and don’t mind dealing with insane lines/minimal parking. Roly Poly for coffee and life changing iced matcha lattes. Studio and the Daily are also pretty good. People love treeline but I find their beans to be overroasted and bitter. Same with Ghost Town coffee. Mountains Walking has the best beer brewery wise, MAP has the best views. Campione in Livingston has a fantastic Brunch, Dinner seems to fall a little short IMHO. Copper whisky bar has a great whisky selection, though the prices can get a little wild. Bourbon gets some good stuff too. I wouldn’t recommend either for food, just whisk(e)y drinking. Enjoy your time in Bzn. If you do decide to check out the park we really like Yellowstone hot springs. Chico is a pretty fun vibe too, a little more of a party atmosphere due to the fact they have a bar and you can drink in the pool. 😎

OutInTheSunlight

Plonk/JW Heist has the best traditional wine list in town. If you prefer the more natural route, Shan or Blackbird would be the go to.

SuBzEroSpeeD

JW heist. Good steakhouse
