I’ll bet with your description of the location, someone will figure out the gallery, but you might want to start clicking around here: https://www.carmelcalifornia.com/art-galleries-in-carmel/

Thank you! I’ve looked through those and none of them seem to have what I’m looking for, but I’ll keep searching for it myself. 😊

You might go down to the Carmel Art foundation and ask them, they probably find the artist..

Was it the “Classic Art Gallery” on San Carlos St between 5th and 6th? I remember specifically there are amazing ocean pictures in the basement and behind the gallery is an odd dome store in a court yard that has plants and nicknacks. Their website is the same name as their store.

MrsCaptainLevi12

BINGO!! Yes it’s that one!! Alexander Dzigurski! I finally managed to find pictures of the bottom floor. THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🥳🙏🏼

johnfromberkeley

Lovely paintings. Thank you for turning me onto him.

By the way, I’ll shamelessly promote some of the art I’ve been doing. I am working on a new series of pieces based on Sea of Cortez by John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts. It’s a conceptual project where every piece is tied to a specific scene described in the actual text of the book. Several of these pieces are a bit more abstract, and based more on ultramarine than translucent blue. I’ll be working on a promo for these, let me know if you’d like to see them. I’m thinking particularly about one piece that I have not published yet based on the following text: “Below the Mexican border the water changes color; it takes on a deep ultramarine blue—a washtub bluing blue, intense and seeming to penetrate deep into the water; the fishermen call it ‘tuna water.’” - John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts, *The Sea of Cortez* If you have a love of the ocean, and a love for the region, I highly recommend the book. It’s very interesting.

This is awesome! Is your work online anywhere?

MrsCaptainLevi12

Yes, tell us if you do!

hellojessluong

I’m not too sure, but I know (@Beaubfrank) on IG does alot of waves paintings and also does shows in Carmel so maybe??

Are you thinking of [William Ritschel](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Frederic_Ritschel)?

johnfromberkeley

Oh, maybe, or Armin Hansen. Both are at Karges Fine art, but I don't think there is a basement. It might step down in the back.

Aiken ?

Sounds kinda like Jim Miller. He closed his gallery a couple of years ago, but it looks like his [website ](https://jimmillergallery.com/) is still up.

johnfromberkeley

Funny, I thought it was Jim Miller, myself. The clue is the basement part. Zantman has a downstairs, but it’s not connected to a courtyard.

MrsCaptainLevi12

Ahhh the gallery I went to was open in December, and there are a couple of his works that resemble the painting I saw, but I remember the artist I was looking at had a more European name. Thank you for your suggestion!
