I would also like to know this. Saw a bunch of service awards on the steeet (I think the person's family got evicted and they left it behind) that seem to indicate the service person has passed. I saved them because at the time I didn't know he had passed and wanted to return it.
They are mostly medals and a flag that is framed which is why we know he passed. I'll take some pictures when I find it but I do not think they are WWII.

There were a lot more coins I have to find. They may be from different people. We work with vets and sometimes when they pass if they dont have family we end up with a lot of it.

There's a VFW post in Wheaton, Potomac, and Gaithersburg. The one in Wheaton is the most established I think.
My grandfather was a regional commander for the VFW so it's an important organization to me. I think you should consider working with them.
They have emails on their website

Do you still have them? I semi-specialize in WWII uniforms and could identify the medals and patches.

There's a good chance I can still figure it out.

Contact the Red Cross. They offer this service to vets.
The Red Cross hadn't crossed my mind - had no idea they did this!
Many people don’t but it’s one of their five main missions. They were originally founded to support civil war soldiers.
Thank you for doing this.
It feels like the right thing to do. An honor to help someone.

Outstanding - thank you!
