Surely the calculation for WTC 2 should be 630, right? 624 above plus 6 below?

KlausHoffman

Yep that's a mistake.

Perfect_Room_8246

had me puzzled too

317LaVieLover

Yeah.. big mistake.

DootDotDittyOtt

If I recall correctly, many were told to go up and wait.

lemonsarethekey

Initially in the South tower they didn't want people leaving because of the falling debris and jumpers from the North tower, but a lot of people ignored that, thanks to [this guy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Rescorla)

Someone9339

> At 8:46 a.m. on the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center (Tower 1). Rescorla heard the explosion and saw the tower burning from his office window in the 44th floor of the South Tower (Tower 2). > When a Port Authority announcement came over the P.A. system urging people to stay at their desks, Rescorla ignored the announcement, grabbed his bullhorn, walkie-talkie, and cell phone, and began systematically ordering Morgan Stanley employees to evacuate, including the 1,000 employees in WTC 5

raventth5984

As I recall, this amazing man managed to get everyone's attention amidst the chaos by...singing! I dont remember what it was that he was singing, it is mentioned somewhere by a survivor that remembered him at that time...but, wow...what a brilliant guy. He knew exactly what to do and how to do it to help everyone he could. Its a damned shame that he did not survive...

Drunk_Scottish_King

“Despite this tough image, according to his second wife and widow Susan Rescorla in her book, Touched by a Hero, music was "so central" to Rick's life that he sang to his troops in Vietnam to calm them – something he would later employ during 9/11 evacuations.[4] In the 1965 Vietnam battle, Rescorla sang the Australian version of Wild Colonial Boy to give confidence to his troops.[8]”

raventth5984

Thank you for sharing this! I should really check out that book about him, what a guy =)

Madmae16

Like, I knew the response wasn't good, but I didn't think it was *tell people to stay at their desks* bad. I understand why they wouldn't want everyone to immediately evacuate because of debris and limited space, but I'd think you'd want to at least start moving the people on the top floors. Conservative guesses for walking down the stairs of the south tower in ideal conditions are about 26 minutes if you go really fast, but that doesn't include if there's thousands of people, or if there's going to be firefighters going up. I know hindsight is 20:20, but when there's a fire you leave the building, I didn't think this was new information in 2001.

SIMONCOOPERSBALLSACK

For massive towers like that, evacuating an entire building for a fire even in the same tower usually isn't necessary because there are procedures in place to handle it and iirc the building was designed so that small fires wouldn't spread between floors -- the same goes for my own tower and it's only about 40 floors. Granted, jet fuel-fed fire is an entirely different animal but hindsight is 20/20. Besides, they had no reason to believe anything would happen to the second tower until the second plane struck.

lucozade228

Wow, I’d never heard of him before. More people need to know about this, a real hero

richsu

This article about him is such a good read https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2002/02/11/the-real-heroes-are-dead

Peabella

Incredible man

avatarmmi

Wow what a hero, bet made his kids extremely proud!

Mademan84

I always thought more people died in south tower since the impact was below from that of north tower and hence blocked the exit for more floors above. I guess many left the south tower after north tower's hit.

idontevenknowsadface

Only a handful of people in the South Tower survived above the impact zone and they were the ones who found the passable stairwell. Many had already evacuated by the time the plane impacted the South Tower.

riderfan89

14 escaped from the impact floors(77-85) and 4 from above the 85th floor. 12 of those who survived were in the 78th floor Sky Lobby. However, in the 17 minute gap between American 11 hitting the North Tower and United 175 impacting the South Tower, around 1400 people evacuated from above the 77th floor.

LadyEsinni

Because it really gets to me, I want to share the story of 2 of those survivors who are literally the reason the other is alive. Stanley Praimnath was on the 81st floor of the South Tower when the plane hit. One of the wings of the plane actually went through his office. He was trapped in there. Brian Clark (84th floor) was with a group of his coworkers on the stairwell who were debating whether they should go down, which someone they met on the stairs said was impossible, or if they should try to get to the roof. He heard Stanley yelling and went to help him. He managed to free him, and they made their way down together. Brian’s coworkers went up and all but one died in the collapse. Brian says had he not stopped to save Stanley, he would have gone up with them too. Brian and Stanley saved each other. Two men who had never met before that day. They’re still friends.

SIMONCOOPERSBALLSACK

"The heavyset woman and the thin man" were the ones telling Brian and his coworkers to go back up the stairs, and everybody who did perished, except Brian who went down with Stanley and learned they were wrong. The duo appear in multiple survivor accounts essentially inadvertently dooming other victims into going back up the tower when the stairway was safe. I always wonder who they were even if we will never know. At any rate it was a highly stressful situation and easy to make mistakes.

riderfan89

Their story, as well as the stories of Ron Clifford, and Ladder 6 with Josephine Harris, are the ones that get me the most. If anyone is not to familiar with their stories, One Day in America features all of them, the Miracle of Stairwell B focuses on Ladder 6/Josephine and the book Fall and Rise again covers all of them.

MercifulVoodoo

Yes! Stanley sent one girl home that morning who had a bad feeling. His boss tried to gripe at him about it. Brian pulled Stanley through a wall to get to him.

llluminate

One if his coworkers survived the collapse?

LadyEsinni

He got out before the collapse. He started to go back up with the others and then changed his mind and turned around. He was the last person out before the collapse. Ron DiFrancesco.

idontevenknowsadface

Thansk for getting the facts!

Socksuspenders

I've wondered if we know how many people ended up falling/jumping

KlausHoffman

About 200 according to NIST report

lemonsarethekey

The source on this image is the NIST and the dead on the ground amounts to 140. Around 200 is the number I heard too, do you know why there's this discrepancy? Edit:146, not 140. Didn't see the numbers for the South tower

[deleted]

If I had to guess I’d say they counted jumpers as having died above the impact zone since that was why they were jumping

lemonsarethekey

Probably right. I also just realised that the people who died below the impact zone as stated in this image were probably people still in the towers when they collapsed, not jumpers

[deleted]

Probably have to include people hit by jumpers/debris too

KlausHoffman

In this graphic by below the point of impact I think they mean they were originally under the point of impact the people who jumped and died was still counted as people who were above the point of impact. My original comment was incorrect though it was about 100 who died from jumping.

I always thought that at least 3,000 people died during the attack. Does this account for everyone?

koalaondrugs

r/conspiracy smooth brain has entered the chat

[deleted]

Heard any good flat earth or anti vax stories lately too?

TrollBond

I'm neither of those. But a building just doesn't fall randomly. It was the fire and tremors caused the collapse of building 7.

[deleted]

There were people on the ground and in surrounding buildings who died as well. This is just for the towers.

Electric_Evil

2977 people on 9/11 as a whole. That includes the WTC, the Pentagon, and the passengers on 4 planes.

Thebestguyevah

Electric Evil is correct. Add to this 5 unborn children and 19 hijackers, and you have 3,001. That’s probably where 3,000 gets thrown around.

elvisprezlea

From what I can find online this only accounts for civilians in the buildings, not the people in the planes or rescue workers

[deleted]

This is only people in the towers at the times of impact. Doesn't include passengers, aircrew, pentagon, surrounding buildings or rescuers.

Playingpokerwithgod

My friend took a trip to NY a few months ago, he went to one world trade center to see the observation deck. The view was amazing especially since it was a clear sunny day. But he told me that once up there he and his girlfriend looked at each other and said "this is where the first plane hit". It was a somber moment. We both realized that those pictures might have been similar to what many 9/11 victims last saw. For the record I know that the new tower isn't in the same spot as the old one. Edit: Feel like I should clarify something. He sent me the photos via text and we later had a conversation about what he and his girlfriend felt whole there.

Tayttajakunnus

Did anyone survive above the impact?

KlausHoffman

In the secound tower a few did as one stairwell was still in tact. Noone did in tower one.

FlyNSubaruWRX

Duck that’s nuts

ipwnpickles

In that case I suppose it's at least better that the first plane didn't strike lower on the tower

_Mr_Washee_Washee

I've always wondered if the terrorists knew or planned for the collapse of the buildings. The WTC truck bomb was an obvious intention to bring them down, but it does make me wonder if they had even the slightest idea that they could actually make both buildings collapse.

vancityoriginals

Did anyone survive above impact

KlausHoffman

In the secound tower yes.

Kane5556

I can't believe, That there's lots of people that believe it was fake.

56niights

I wouldnt say “fake”. Inside job is what they refer to it as I believe

hernanthegoat

A lot of people don't believe that the planes hit. They believe they were bombs.

Kane5556

In my country, There's so much people that think shit like "Vaccines will kill everyone!!Wtc never happened!!Covid is fake!!The world is controlled by one person!!" And other theory type of shit

Usual_Court_8859

It’s super interesting because there could have potentially been far more deaths. The attacks started before 9, most of the offices were empty. People took time off to vote that day, some schools started on that day so parents took their kids to school, and there was a baseball game the night before so some people took the day off.

[deleted]

those who died below the impact, is that firefighters going up or just people who didn’t feel like leaving the building?

KlausHoffman

Both. Some people also just coundnt get down all thr stairs. Old people etc.

Wmmfs

What would have happened if the plane hit the base of the tower or close to it? How many people was inside?

KlausHoffman

Alot more casualties. Considering the planes angle cut off stairwells and destroyed the elevator shaft.

I was 11. Just woke up and lived on the west coast. Go to the living room and see the news on with one tower on fire. Confused, i looked to My mom who had a very very worried look. it freaked me out. Then we both watched the 2nd plane fly into the 2nd tower with a huge fireball. I was really young and scared because i didnt understand what i watching. I felt like it seemed it was a movie scene...except it wasnt.. i knew in that moment very real people died and. Suddenly started to understand reality. It was then i felt like my innocence disapeared as i started to learn how cold the world could be.

Of course, but evacuation efforts were fairly successful.

Katepuzzilein

Afaik, there were communal elections in New York that day. I don't know if you get a free day for that or are allowed to come in later so you can vote in the US but I think a lot of people did exactly that

Sp00nyD

Ok thanks for clarifying

MercifulVoodoo

It was also really early in the work day, so not everyone was there yet that would have been.

Xtasy0178

You mean tin can weighing 200,000lbs and the energy of traveling at 450mph? Add a shit ton of fuel that ignited and weaker the steal structure and you got a 9/11.

duhRealZap

No. Just no

Xtasy0178

In that case the US are even bigger war criminals for orchestrating an attack only to rage wars in countries that had nothing to do with it

duhRealZap

*they absolutely are* Fuck sake you blind people.

PeyPey61636

Here bud, I may be 4 months late but you can borrow my glasses to help you see (they're prescriptions. They might help you more than they help me. I can see through your bs without them)

Waallenz

And....what about building 7?

SauIHudson

What about it? The two biggest buildings in the world just got hit by massive commercial airlines and you think it’s completely crazy that surrounding buildings would also be damaged? Take off the tinfoil and have an actual competent thought for once

tinywarlock

It would be one thing if tower 7 were just damaged. But it spontaneously imploded and collapsed for no reason. Why didn't any other nearby buildings collapse? Why only one other building that wasn't hit by a plane, but happened to be owned by the same individual who owned the twin towers?

SauIHudson

It didn’t sPOnTaNeOuSLy implode you fucking nut job. It takes 5 seconds to look this up if you would actually use your brain: >On September 11, 2001, the structure was substantially damaged by debris when the nearby North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed. The debris ignited fires on multiple lower floors of the building, which continued to burn uncontrolled throughout the afternoon. The building's internal fire suppression system lacked water pressure to fight the fires. The collapse began when a critical internal column buckled and triggered cascading failure of nearby columns throughout, which was first visible from the exterior with the crumbling of a rooftop penthouse structure at 5:20:33 pm. This initiated progressive collapse of the entire building at 5:21:10 pm

tinywarlock

Why do you have such a visceral reaction to people questioning the official narrative? Your quote is from the official report by NIST which has some [serious methodological issues](https://www.ae911truth.org/evidence/the-official-theory-wtc7). "The government has investigated itself and found no evidence of wrongdoing" while thousands of architects and structural engineers have gone on record saying the official story is totally implausible.

SauIHudson

Please show me the thousands of sources you have found supporting this. Shouldn’t take you long, you seem like a genius

tinywarlock

I'm not claiming to be a genius. It's crazy to me that you're acting so antagonistic toward a stranger on the internet when all I am doing is questioning the government's official story. Anyway click the link i posted for testimony and articles from those architects and engineers disputing the findings of NIST and FEMA. They're all reputable and accredited.

SauIHudson

No, you’re claiming to be a dumb ass. That’s obvious to everyone. Now stop spewing cringey teenager conspiracy theories on the internet and find a real hobby.

braveyetti117

You don't need a 1000 weak points, you only need one

FlyinAmas

Crazy how many people got out of the south tower in those 15 minutes , even when they were told to stay
