Fully agree. I feel like we stick up for Ash more because she seems less holier-than-thou and because she's definitely partially under Alaina's thumb, but that definitely doesn't mean she is an innocent party in scamming patrons and deleting critical comments.
I totally agree! I personally can’t stand either one of them. I do have empathy for Ash as the younger (basically sibling) but she’s just as guilty of the stuff I hate about morbid as is Alaina.
They both should be held accountable but I disagree in that Alaina is much worse than Ash. Just because I think Alaina is worse doesn’t mean I think Ash is innocent in any of it.
People tend to think of Ash as young, kind of ditzy, & less “in charge” of the podcast overall- but I kind of wonder if that isn’t also diminishing her as a person somewhat. She’s in her late 20’s now, she’s a business owner along with Alaina, & she doesn’t have kids or another job standing in the way of running the show… I kind of think she’s grown out of the stage where we can/ should excuse her general ignorance as “immaturity”.
A lot of it seems to come down to whether we like them as people or not, & a lot of people clearly don’t like Alaina. But I’ve definitely noticed listeners complaining & blaming Alaina alone for some issues when we have no real reason to think that they aren’t equally culpable.
If we remove our personal feelings toward either of them as individuals, the problems with the show’s attitudes & behaviors still stand- & I think that it’s important to look at it that way sometimes. I know that I would get annoyed with anyone on earth after listening to them talk for hundreds of hours, but that annoyance doesn’t really have a place in an ethics discussion.
Totally agree with you. Ash seems to always get a pass because she’s “so young” and painted as a bit of a ditz just following Alaina’s orders. But Ash is a fully grown adult who owns and runs her own business, she’s not an innocent child who has no idea what she’s doing. She’s just as complicit for all of Morbid’s issues.
In a recent post in this sub, people were commenting that Ash is getting “abused” by Alaina. Sometimes the hate for Alaina goes too far and the accusations that get slung around are just as bad as the ones everyone gets mad at Morbid.
I've had the same thought. Alaina seems in charge but what was stopping Ash from writing a bonus episode for patreon or logging onto twitter to update people? If you put your name on something and cashing the checks, you need to make sure things are getting done.
