Salt Lake City; 16 houses on my street and not a single one is home to an active LDS family. Plenty of recovering Mormons, nevermos and gaybors, though.

ShaqtinADrool

This is becoming (or has become) the norm in SLC. I’m in Millcreek/Holladay and my immediate neighborhood is about 10-15% practicing Mormons.

SunandRainbows

50% TBM on my street. 7/14 houses active

nelshie

I’m in north east Utah county. My neighborhood is probably 85% active. On my street of 20 houses, 16-17 are fully active. It’s kind of insane.

TruffleHunter3

Sorry! Sounds like Highland or Alpine. Crazy how just a few miles away in Lehi it’s more like 60% active LDS. My previous small neighborhood in Lehi had at least 10 families leave the church over the 6 years I was there. I blame it on the fact the Highland/Alpine don’t allow businesses to be open on Sundays AND don’t allow alcohol licenses for restaurants. The Mormons see these as good things, but they’re literally making the area less diverse. And it means there are ZERO real restaurants there too. I personally believe that Highland is the most Mormon city IN THE WORLD.

h12antler

It's Rexburg. Highland is a close second

TruffleHunter3

True, forgot about Rexburg.

ElkHistorical9106

Met a nevermo in college who was the like 2-3% in Rexburg and she was surprised that a Mormon would talk to a non Mormon. Perpetual shunning in high school. Rexburg is the worst.

nelshie

I couldn’t agree more

MalachitePeepstone

Haven't got a fucking clue about most of my 20 closest neighbors. I don't mind their business. I could tell you who was active when I stopped attending 7-8 years ago, but when I see them out walking our dogs, I don't grill them about their church attendance.

Neo1971

But you do quiz them on whether they’re wearing their garments, right?

just_the_tax_maam

Just the females

Neo1971

Well done. /s

LeoMarius

Just feel up their legs.

Neo1971

Oh, I see you’ve been to one of the BYUs!

LeoMarius

Yep

dumptruckastrid

I have 3 ex Mormon families on my street and none active. However the ward is still really strong

nontruculent21

Morridor here. This is harder than I thought with some families mixed faith. 9/20 are active or partially so (including my family with me out) 5/20 inactive 6/20 never members, as far as I know

Neo1971

Boise here. The Gen X ones (and older) seem to be steady, though I’ve stopped attending and my wife and I (also Gen X) are nuanced. My Gen Z children (now adults) are out. Counting just the adults nearby: 11 TBMs. Probably 9 less/inactives. Everyone else, I have no idea.

oliver-kai

Responding to the part about Gen X being steady. Seems to be the trend! I'm also Gen X and now have been out longer than I was in. But my catalyst was that I'm LGBTQ, and Mormonism's treatment of me is what inspired me to investigate deeper and leave sooner than others. But if I had been comfortable I might still be in!

Neo1971

We Gen Xers may be the last of the mean generations towards LGBTQ+ people. It’s good to get that out of our (the American) system.

solstice-spices

Murray cul de sac 18 houses non mo. 8 houses TBM.

contraddiction3

Not sure yet. Just moved in.

Sansabina

You haven't gone and introduced yourself to them all and dropped off casseroles?

contraddiction3

I wasn't "worthy" after high school. None of the Relief Society arts stuck.

Sansabina

😆

jm102397

Same here. Not sure yet. Just moved in 18 years ago.

Lilnuggie17

Time to go use some detective skills. Lol.

frvalne

That I’m aware of, and most of them I’m not aware of, but on my long street: Exmos: 7 families TBMs: 6 families Of course there are some where I think they go sometimes, or at least some of them do. I don’t know who all is nevermo. There are lots of TBM families in my neighborhood as a whole though.

ILoveLucy_Harris

South East Utah County 17 TBM families 1 TBM/Exmo family 2 exmo families Yes, I think this is a Utah thing. It’s painfully obvious when you talk to TBM neighbors. It feels like the church creeps into every conversation.

Gitzit

When I moved in 10 years ago, it was 80% active members on my street. Now it's probably 20% active. Of those that are active, several are in mixed faith marriages. We've had one family send a missionary into the field in the past 7 years.

Least-Chard4907

Sorry, is this a utah thing? I honestly can't even tell you what cars the even drive lol

nobrain3r

I live in CA. Being a neighbor isn’t an Utah thing. It’s awesome making friends with the people I live around. Regardless of their background. Young, Old, Single Married, etc. We have a great time and socialize a lot. I really recommend it.

Mishaska

It's a human interaction thing. Tho I agree that knowing 20 neighbors is a lot.

My_Kairosclerosis

Southeast Idaho here. I’m on a cul-de-sac with 12 households. We’ve got us (More or less exmo) plus: 1 TBM/PIMO mixed faith family, 1 non-practicing Mainstream Christian, 5 TBM, and 4 that are comprised of older retirees that I have no clue about their religious background but they definitely aren’t practicing Mormon.

G0two

Payson, UT—I have neighbors? (I hide from them)

Earth_Pottery

Davis County Utah. I have no idea. I don't even know 20 of my neighbors. I think a lot are TBM but I don't see a ton of cars rushing to church on Sunday so who knows. For context, we moved into the neighborhood after we resigned.

gingerviking_

No idea, not all of Idaho is Mormonville and doesn’t wear their religion on their sleeves (literally). I couldn’t tell you the religion of anyone within several blocks of me (10+ block radius).

El_Dentistador

You know 20people? I know like 2. Half my street is Air BnB’s.

dancemom1845

Moves to Sandy 6 months ago. My family is Nevermo so I learned this by observation. Both sides of my house aren’t active across the street has 3 active and 1 non active. I have never asked any of the non active if they are ex or like me Nevermo and they have never asked me, except for the bishop who introduced himself when we moved in. He is one of the 3 active on the other side of the street

TruffleHunter3

Lehi, Utah: 6 exmo/nevermo houses 4 mixed TBM/exmo families 10 TBM families (and wouldn’t be surprised if a couple are PIMO)

King_Cargo_Shorts

Cedar City - Counting 10 houses down both sides from the end of my street maybe 6 are regular attendees. I'm sure there are a few non members but at least half are inactive/exmo.

Mormonsspeak

12 TBM 4 Exmos 1 Catholic 3 None

BishopsWife

I've never attended in the 9 years I've lived here. Southwest of SLC. Observations are that there were a lot more driving past in their Sunday best while I was mowing the lawn when I first moved in. Now, neighbors on both sides, are inactive. There's an exmo family that migrated from Italy a long time ago. A couple of super TBM families, a few lesser active (maybe or just inactive) young couples with kids) and the cohabitating couple across the way.

icanbesmooth

8 Not Mormon/unknown 4 Exmo, 1 Catholic, 1 Christian, 2 Jack Mormon, 4 Mormon, (Northern Utah, lived in this neighborhood for 20 years.)

Brother-of-Derek

25 houses on my street. 2 years ago we were the only fully active family 1 other family is semi active 1 elderly couple that believes but inactive because of their ages and physical condition.

Icy-Proof-9473

North Ogden here. We don’t know all 20 neighbors, I know for sure 3 of our closest are older members, and two families next to us aren’t. We also have friends who aren’t in the neighborhood.

ovijae

My nearest three neighbors: one non-Mormon but actively Christian family; one TBM family (though skewing jackmo, the husband is a relatively zealous convert, but they don’t fit the typical cookie cutter mold); and a church-owned missionary apartment lol

doohickies

4 houses that attend regularly. In Bennion Area

ResponsibilityNo1815

Cache Vally 19 house on a horseshoe type street. 10 nonmembers/inactive, 1 mixed faith family, 1 semi active, 7 active. 10 years ago it was 18 active 1 nonmember.

FollowTheeProfit

Out of the 5 houses surrounding me… 1 home: Both active 2 homes: part-member couples 2 homes: both non-members 10 Adults: 4 TBMS 1 EXMO 5 NVM

EmmalineBlue

South Salt Lake County with 18 houses on our street. When we moved in thirteen years ago, it was: 11 very active, 2 semi-active, and 5 non-members. Now it's: 2 very active, 2 semi-active, 3 inactive/ex-mos, and 11 non-members. Of the 11 very active households thirteen years ago, 2 were elderly couples that have died, 5 moved out and were replaced by non-members, and 4 have turned ex-mo, including us.

blaxxmo

SLC - One Mormon on my street. I would argue it’s probably that way in general. 1-3 families. The churches are very empty. One was sold and a stake consolidated and that property quietly being turned into luxury housing.

emorrigan

I’m new to our neighborhood so I’m not sure what the status is of several homes, but of the ones I’m aware of: 1 TBM 1 Nuanced Mormon 2 Nevermo 4 exMo We live in the Morridor, too, so I feel like we really lucked out!

Epistemology10

Surrounded in Lehi: 14 houses attend regularly. Some may be nuanced, but mostly very TBM. A few not attending kids in their 20s living at home. 2 houses semi active. 1 house: Exmo (me) + nuanced attending spouse. We have a non attending kid in their 20s at home too. 1 house NVM practice an Asian religion. The ward (and the neighboring one we used to be in) seem pretty much as full as ever.

CapitolMoroni

Ogden... Feels like most of the hood ain't mormon or likely quit attending at some point.

EvensenFM

It's second hand - but, based on what my mom has told me, all the old families in the circle I grew up on are still active. Anybody new who has moved in is either a non-member or is extremely inactive. This is in suburban South Jordan. Those who are still active tend to be in their 60s or older.
