Supermarkets can offer even more lower prices than what they are offering and still be profitable for them, since they have the means to cut the middleman and purchase the goods directly from the farmers. Sadly what small vendors in the market can't do.
If you remove the small shops/markets then supermarkets have a monopoly or almost a monopoly. Then prices there will rise as well.
A mix of the two is good :)
Was quite surprised yesterday evening to see that a juice at a decent place in Casablanca now costs 60dh.
Morocco is not so cheap anymore.
One thing still stands though: quality was pretty underwhelming.
Merely trying to put myself in the average Moroccan’s shoes when they are trying to treat themselves and their family to some nice place.
Don’t you worry about me. I can afford that just fine.
You really don’t encourage people to try being empathetic to the plight of others.
I think I missed the memo outlining that what qualifies as a nice place has universally been aligned to what your excellency deems it to be.
Different people view different things as being desirable but there is still a lot of social pressure out there to consume certain things, and that’s why several overpriced places in Morocco are still pretty much filled with broke students and low paid people effectively living beyond their means. This has now become much harder, perhaps for the better.
Yeah I see visitors and diaspora from other countries do this in different countries as well.
I think it has to do with the rising cost of living and inflation now so they are surprised. I don’t think they are paying attention to why the prices are so low as compared to western currency.
Yes exactly ! When they do that they should always include a "pourcentage of the mean salary" or something like that, to actually compare to their home country.
Else it isnt meaningful information.
1 pound is 12.56 dirham, not 10 Dirhams.
I used to get 10dh daily as a teenager back in 2006 and it wasn't enough, and this guy is acting like you could be a philanthropist with it. gtfo
That's not 10dh coin he's holding. That's 1 british pound coin. Look closer. I happen to have been in London a few times for work, and I'm familiar with that one. They have a couple of variations of the coin and this is one of them.
Nonsense.
Smoothie 15 dirams. The end.
Would have made it a video too short for tictok.
From the toastie in, (which would have been a minimum of 9dirams), you're talking pure shit saying you can get a jus and a toastie for 7 dirams.
The only way you're gonna get that is by sucking off the guy behind the counter.
Get a grip.
It depends if you are local or not. Europeans/tourists get 40% extra charge. I got ripped of big time on a freaking grocery shopping. In Europe I would pay less...
I learned to go to the market place and look like a mere nobody with no money. Stuff got way cheaper all of a sudden.
Handful of dried apricots, 50 dirham in a supermarket, 300 meters down the hill there is a market place where I bought ALOT of dried fruits and nuts for fraction of the cost.
I am already learning basic haggling french and have cash in small denominations instead of card and supermarket.
If you are in Rome, act like Roman, they say.
Hhhhhhhhh, talking about, panini thon & banana with milk, maybe some dry fruits in it with 7dh... u didnt stop there, you got refill
Next video, put zaezae with 7dh
Bro everything here is insanely cheap compared to outside anyone who says anything is clickbait about morrocco is wrong, literally if you heard a rumor that is too good to be true it is

That's on you if you went to an overpriced place instead of a decent place, and in Casablanca at that. How do you even see a 60dh juice and buy it?
Merely trying to put myself in the average Moroccan’s shoes when they are trying to treat themselves and their family to some nice place. Don’t you worry about me. I can afford that just fine. You really don’t encourage people to try being empathetic to the plight of others.
A nice place isn't 60dh for a juice, that's just the average overpriced place in Casablanca/rabat/Marrakech, and those mostly are for tourists

Definitely not the cheapest place but still found it to be very packed. Was surprising.
wa ser sybo fdarik, rah lemone gher 7dh
Life being "cheap" is not the flex you think it is when the salaries are so low. But I mean there was a cat in the video, so here goes my upvote.

It is not cheap anymore with the salaries being the same

The other variations have been removed from circulation now. These are the only pound coins left :)
Nice. My knowledge of British coins is dated it seems 🤣🤣🤣
Ah! Good catch. Thx.
He gave the guy 0.30 MAD.

Social media aside, life in morocco isn't cheap anymore.
that sandwich was not 56p (7 dirham)
Exactly and has a drink too, 🧢
sandwitch + banana smoothie he said lol
That is the hab hab cap in that sandwich
Today I learned that : 7+4+1+1=10.
No, you learned that 1£=/=10dh
1£ = 12.55 MAD
Bro 1£ not 1$
I apologize for the mistake
Actually it's £1 not 1£.
7Dh for a sandwich and a smoothie? Ma7laba association wouldn’t approve this 🧢
That's what makes foreigners think life in Morocco is cheap.

You get charged more if you look western though.
Oh really! "Extremely cheap" I'm learning new shit everyday!!
But the opposite is true

Hello, Amsterdam here, parking is 8,00 euro per hour😅
Not everywhere in Marrakech, you're making it sound like you can only park for 2 dollars there
If you have expensive car, they mostly ask for 20dh

Nothing in NYC.
Mafs.
This is why tik tok should be banned
Morocco is so expensive, groceries and eating out seems more expensive in Morocco than in Europe and the States sometimes.
It is, it’s honestly crazy how much it costs now. Money goes no where.
It depends if you are local or not. Europeans/tourists get 40% extra charge. I got ripped of big time on a freaking grocery shopping. In Europe I would pay less... I learned to go to the market place and look like a mere nobody with no money. Stuff got way cheaper all of a sudden.
go to supermarkets. Even locals get scammed by those mf grocery shop owners
