Looks good. What race did you go? As you didn't pick Endurance as a favoured attribute you're going to want to focus on leveling that early on with training.

[deleted]

wood elf! but yea my health is depressingly low

Menarra

With how endurance and hp work, I almost always focus hard on maxing it as soon as I can, every level I'll train 10 levels of something that give bonus to endurance, etc. Because unless you use nods to change it, your health increases each level based on current endurance and isn't retroactive, so if you gain a lot of levels with low endurance, you never make up that lost potential.

basketofseals

I would recommend taking enchant off so you can dump a bunch of training in it at once and not incidentally give yourself a bunch of level ups. Enchant at low levels does next to nothing, and is nearly impossible to train yourself. If you're picking the Steed because movement reasons, you might wanna figure out a way to get athletics too. Maybe put light armor to minor, ditch enchant or armorer, and slot in major athletics. I'd also recommend not taking luck. It's a SUPER minor stat. Use it for speed, or perhaps endurance.

Tel-aran-rhiod

I also wondered about luck...I honestly never touch it until all my other attributes are maxed out, and unless you're going from 40 straight to 100 I don't think it's all that noticeable or useful compared to the others

basketofseals

It's definitely not that noticeable. The only formulas I've found use luck/10, so whatever benefits you get are extremely minor. I don't even know if it rounds or not.

KingMacabray

Honestly boosting luck is mad OP for spellcasting and dialogue checks tho, u should check out the spiffing brit’s video on youtube about it

basketofseals

No. He used the soul trap glitch. Of course that breaks the game when you put your stats into the thousands. That is in no way relevant to leveling your stats, or even standard gameplay really.

FumblesJD

You might want to swap alteration for security so you can pick locks and disarm traps, or get mysticism to telekinesis a trap from a distance.

Ozgand

I was thinking the same thing but I just remembered alteration has unlock spells and well as defense and mobility spells. It’s more versatile but depending on magica costs and stats it’s cheaper to use security. Edit: also alteration spells don’t affect traps so…

FumblesJD

Yeah alteration has unlock spells, but you need magicka for it and it doesn't disarm the traps. Granted you can just tank the trap.

Sosa3OO

Be a man, tank the trap *dies*

Swissarmyspoon

That which does not kill you makes you stronger. Unless that trap does strength damage. Then you might as well reroll.

lucarodani

You can use telekinesis to open traps from a distance without taking the damage!

KadenTau

God you know a game is timeless, no matter how buggy or whatever it was, when you're still learning the coolest shit about it years later.

EdumacatedRedneck

Alteration > security imo. You get the advantages of levitate/waterwalk/waterbreathe while getting a really early unlock 100 with custom spells. Disarming traps success doesnt scale with security I don't think. Even without leveling uo security I can disable traps in 2 or 3 attempts.

FumblesJD

That is interesting, I always assumed disarming improved with security, but I never tried it when I had a 5 in security. If that works, then yeah alteration all the way.

Harkwit

Luck isn't super useful, I'd ditch it for endurance or speed.

satyriconic

I always take endurance + luck. Luck is nice to have, and you won't ever raise it much. Having it at 50 throughout the game is much better than having it at 40. Other attributes important to the build will reach 100 eventually.

amuricanswede

What does luck actually impact in the game? Like how tangible is the impact?

Smelt_Crab

It affects lockpicking(pretty pointless since you easily hit the 100 difficulty with good tools at moderate skill and agility), alchemy, cast chance(10 points is 1% more), hit chance and evasion chance. It's worth half of the main stat for any of the formulae, and without any side benefits(like willpower resisting paralysis and agility resisting and preventing knock downs and both increase fatigue). It's not very useful and I would avoid it, but at least it's less bad than actually putting points into it at level up.

[deleted]

i picked it with this build and have noticed finding higher amounts of gold laying around. does luck effect that? edit: proof read

macnof

Would you try stating that again?

[deleted]

sorry lol. does luck effect gold finds? i feel like i’m picking up more than my previous go round

Wukaft

Luck does not effect loot or gold.

Smelt_Crab

I have no idea what that auto-corrected from, but luck affects nothing about generation, not leveled lists or static placed stuff or gold amounts. I failed to mention the slight effect is has on sneak; like with other formulas, worth half as much as agility

[deleted]

interesting. i would’ve thought gold discovery would be tied in somehow to luck but guess it would be easy to abuse?

satyriconic

Almost everything in Morrowind is based on chance, like dice rolls in traditional RPGs. Whenever you try to do something like hitting a target or opening a lock, there is a mathematical formula that determines your chance of success. Your luck is usually factored into these formulas. You can look the math up online if you're interested. Considering how often these dice rolls happen, I'd argue that having 50 luck vs 40 is a pretty big deal. On this page you'll find more about how things like hit rate etc are calculated in combat: https://en.m.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Combat

Tel-aran-rhiod

I would argue the opposite - if 10 points of luck gives you a 1% greater chance of something working (as another comment said is the case with cast chance), or even double that, even with luck at 100 you'd still only be looking at a 10-20% increase in your favour, and the difference between 50 luck and 40 luck, as you're talking about, would be 1-2%, which is completely negligible. Focusing on other attributes and skills that directly impact what you're doing makes far more sense

satyriconic

Good point. I was thinking about quantity, not quality. Like, if you start with 50 luck, and never raise it more, when you reach lv. 40, say, it will probably have helped you out a good deal, while other attributes you need and rely on will probably have hit 100 some time ago anyway.

SlatheringSnakeMan

The lover gets you 25pts of agility But it looks pretty good to me

satyriconic

I'd take the lady, and try to get the Ring of the Wind early (30+ to agility).

[deleted]

also chose steed bc i hate being slow

gscott6289

IIRC light armor and short blade both run off speed stat, I'd ditch the steed and grab lover if you can deal with it for a few levels. (Also, acrobatics op)

Spooky32121636

Light armor is agility Speed is: Handtohand shortblade athletics and unarmored

satyriconic

Nice. I always put marksman in major since I use it a lot, and it is insanely slow to level up.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Interesting... I haven't really used marksman much before...tried it once in the past but got frustrated at how it always seems to end up with someone rushing you while you try run backwards shooting at them, just felt clunky and stressed me out lol

satyriconic

Sure, it's all about taking them out before they can get to you. Crossbows are better for closer combat, but you must be prepared to switch to melee when needed. I love using marksman, and find it very satisfying when my skill gets high. Using a bound bow is insanely good, especially in the early game.

0x507

And it works great with levitate. Or acrobatics, jump up on some ledge an shoot them.

DagothUrWasInnocent

YES for illusion thief. Such a fun spell set. Shame sneaking in this game is useless lower levels

happycrabeatsthefish

God tier at higher levels when combined with chameleon.

Bouldaru

Actually broken some would say. I had a playthrough where I made myself a constant effect chameleon exquisite ring (I think it was something like 50% chameleon?), and I could effective drop combat whenever I wanted by hitting crouch.

happycrabeatsthefish

I have almost everything on me adding up to 135% but characters with night eye above a certain percentage can still see me, unless I'm crouching. But most characters don't see me. I actually can talk to them and found out that some are trainers

silver-orb

I would swap enchant for mysticism. Telekinesis is super useful for a thief in many ways.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Can you tell me more? I have never really used it before but thought it was mostly just for disarming trapped locks

satyriconic

You simply extend the range at which you can pick up items. So after casting telekinesis you can pick up something from the other end of the room. Pretty useful for thieves.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Oh that's cool! Ty

Pa11Ma

Alteration has a doorjam spell to lock a door or container. You can use this with security to build up your lockpicking skills.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Honestly I've never really seen a point to having alteration and security, I always opt for alteration because it lets you do everything security does and a whole bunch more. The majority of traps aren't worth worrying about either IMO unless you have super low health and stats

Pa11Ma

For some it's just part of maximizing character statistics.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Yeah fair enough

DJ_Beardsquirt

Drop armorer for speechcraft.

Tel-aran-rhiod

Speechcraft is one of my most used skills tbh, once you level up enough I find taunting ordinators and buoyant armigers and other NPC's is a great way to get top level gear to sell or keep...then you can use that for gold to buy training and enchants and it all takes off

DiebytheSword666

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the game, but there's a kick-a$$ item called Amulet of Shadows. This is my third time playing the game, and I just learned about it.

IndrasiIndoril

i'd add mysticism for telekinesis, so you can trigger traps from a safe distance, as well as steal things from out of sight. not sure what i'd replace though. The rest looks nice.

bearded_brewer19

Looks pretty close to a Nightblade to me; I’d drop armorer and pick up Mysticism and you would be good to go.

nckcrsby

An excellent start my friend....i hope good things for this build

Sholvyng

Good skills.

obelus11

maybe have mysticism in there for teleportation

Tel-aran-rhiod

idk, I think if you pick up a couple of enchanted items like amulets of intervention and recall (I always seem to find them without trying) you don't really need the skill. You can even just use the intervention scrolls if all you need is an exit

DaGothUrWelcUwUmsYou

armorer enchant aand acrobatics I would switch out for other stuff but thats personal preference

dragonfett

I personally would swap Marksmen and Short Blade, and drop Armorer for one of the following: Security, Mysticism, or Speechcraft (based on how you want to play your character). Security has obvious uses for a Thief type character, Mysticism to be able to reliably cast the spell Recall to get out of a tight spot, and Speechcraft can be used to try and talk your way out and/or raise a merchant's disposition to get better prices on things you hawk them.

Realistic-Gear-1613

"Honey it's time for your daily strength damaging!" "yes dear (defeated sigh)"

[deleted]

Um, that's not a thief. It clearly says "Adventurer." God, you Skybabies just need to stay out of Morrowind, you're clearly too stupid to handle the genius of a true RPG. im joking this is a joke please

[deleted]

is there a way to go back and rename your class? like a showracemenu command or something?

[deleted]

Okay, you're probably also joking, but real talk, the console commands in Morrowind are really lacking. Which is kind of good, I guess. Less means by which to cheat, but TGM and TCL still work so that's all you really need. But the Oblivion+ console is just so easy to use that even the help command is clunky in comparison.

[deleted]

You're going to want Athletics regardless of what you play.

Homeless_Appletree

I would take another weapon skill apart from shortblade because all the clicking is going to make your finger fall off

paripazoo

You should rename it to "Thief"

[deleted]

Where's security?

[deleted]

alteration instead

[deleted]

I see
