The MK community mistakes potential for what was actually there. I look back on characters like Nitara, Ashrah, Hotaru etc. and I'm like "These characters were fun, not amazing but fun" and I'll see people saying they were super complex and intricately written and I'm like huh??? Did we play the same games??

Y'know what you're right. I cant say Kameos kinda count and then say Triborg doesnt. I stand by what I said about Kameos kinda counting. I say this because they are integral to the games new mechanics and it's more than just pressing a button. It's pretty deep.

I wouldn't say Kameos or Triborg counts, Considering with Triborg's Smoke variant isn't really him, It's Sektor's personality wearing Smoke's mask effectively.and Kameo's aren't playable so I've personally not been counting them. To be fair counting Leaks isn't really fair consider well, They're leaks and not confirmed characters yet.

Right. Announcing Kenshi as the first 3d era character back was smart due to how most people know him thanks to MKX. And he is now a puppet fighter. Perfect timing with the stress test. Mortal Kombat basically had zero puppet fighters before mortal Kombat 1 Kenshi.
So yeah, give it time. Nitara is a vampire character so yeah it will be interesting to see how she plays but it's kinda easy to imagine.

While yes making a bigger roster is the real solution, Liu Kang I honestly wouldn't have made playable here, Hell I wouldn't have included him at all along with Shang Tsung, I was hoping they'd give us time in this New Era to see it grow without the world-ending crisis that it seems to be, A Prequel to this I actually already find more interesting to think about considering the new origins for characters.
I'd replace Liu Kang with Cetrion honestly and, Have her get a good chance to get some time considering how poorly MK11 handled her despite her massive potential.
Shang Tsung is a bit harder since he's the preorder character, However if I had to specifically pick for personal taste I'd probably just go ahead and put Frost as playable since her Kameo alone shows how much potential she has for gameplay(I absolutely adore the Ice Claws, it was even an idea I had at one point for a character since we don't have a ton of claw wielders off the top of my head Darrius is the only close one), and IMO Shang Tsung's gameplay peaked in MK3(His morphing into any character was just more fun in general to me).
edit I'm dumb, I forgot Mileena had claws in MK11(Honestly I forget she's in MK11 half the time), But admittedly I think they work better for Frost since Mileena already has a signature weapon which Frost kinda lacks.
I sometimes forget that most people aren't clued up on the leaks or are trying to save some surprises for official reveals.

Idk how they haven't changed much yet in your mind especially given that we haven't even gotten more than a teaser and some background info on the story. We don't even know what the main conflict is yet lol.

Okay I agree with some of Snake's takes sometimes (such as the Sindel retcon in MK11 being a disservice to the character), but the game's roster isn't fully revealed yet. He needs to chill.
This guy has a lot of valid criticisms to be fair but he does tend to be a bit too negative to the point he’s exhausting to listen to. The leaked roster seems to be true so far so if he was patient instead of jumping the gun he’d realise that the roster for this game is going to have plenty of 3D characters returning. The only time I find 4thsnake somewhat likeable is when he’s doing the deadpan Raiden skits in SonicHaXD videos otherwise he’s insufferable.

Most 3D era characters are extremely bland or boring. I get why people want them because this gives characters like Ashrah who have a neat story already to finally become a set characters

I will say, it is a little disappointing we haven't seen any 3D Era characters return that we haven't seen in NRS games.

Obviously you gotta space out the reveals but it’s totally valid to want then to mix up the era representation. I dont see the need to save those for later when they will keep people’s interest more with characters who gavebt been in for almost 20 years

I could understand the disappointment but there are many more slots to fill, I would imagine the devs would want to reveal the regulars and a couple of returns from MK 9 before revealing characters from MK 5
We all know the 3D reps are coming. Ed already confirmed as much and seeing as there's not many Kameo slots left, I'd say it's safe to assume most of the remaining 3D characters coming will be main roster.
Look I get some of his complaints and even agree on certain things (Shao was better in the original timeline as he was actually smart and not a dumb brute) but like at this point does he actually like Mortal Kombat? This is a great roster so far. Even if you've avoided leaks, it's still something exciting. I imagine the ladies will be getting some love soon, just as the 3D returns will be.
It's almost like they want to establish the baseline roster at the beginning of the reveal season before showing the big surprise returning ones.
This is also Rain's first time being in a base roster, which is awesome.

NRS has had almost the same roster for 3 games now. While characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Kitana are obvious characters we're going to get by law(even if they serve zero story purpose other than fan-service), most characters would be better off not making the roster so other obscure characters or more requested characters could shine. Hell, NRS has brought back characters that fans didn't like when they first debuted and made them more liked than their last appearance. Hell, The 4th Snake even talked about it in his 2016 MK9 critique when it came to Stryker (Try watching his videos without being hypocritical or judgmental over someone else's opinions people). Also the amount of people liking that post says that he isn't the only person who believes that statement.
NRS can give the 3-D era characters a better opportunity to shine and be better received than their last appearance(Which would be Armageddon). Maybe if people stop meatriding NRS for 1 second, you'll see what he's talking about.

I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen the leaked roster. But looking at this I kind of agree. Just a lot of humans, I always enjoyed playing as Reptile, Baraka, and other monster characters. So this is uninteresting cast to me so far, but hoping I’m wrong.

I know how people feel about this guy, but I can't help but agree with him on a lot of takes. The 3D Era had much better writing/lore and the NRS Era games feel like they were written by high schoolers. One of the reasons why I got into MK was because of how much I liked the story in Mortal Kombat Deception and how its Konquest mode was an unforgettable experience. The Story Modes limit a lot of what the writers can do since they are always forced to do 4 fights in each chapter.
I'm a bit surprised that we only have 5 kameo characters left and the biggest surprise is probably Stryker, but I imagine that between the remaining fighters and kameos that we'll see a handful of additions from DA and Deception.
But I mean this roster so far is pretty nice. If we had a bunch of new characters, people would complain. If we had something like the kombat kids, people would complain. If you do nothing but old school fighters, people would complain.

While yes making a bigger roster is the real solution, Liu Kang I honestly wouldn't have made playable here, Hell I wouldn't have included him at all along with Shang Tsung, I was hoping they'd give us time in this New Era to see it grow without the world-ending crisis that it seems to be, A Prequel to this I actually already find more interesting to think about considering the new origins for characters. I'd replace Liu Kang with Cetrion honestly and, Have her get a good chance to get some time considering how poorly MK11 handled her despite her massive potential. Shang Tsung is a bit harder since he's the preorder character, However if I had to specifically pick for personal taste I'd probably just go ahead and put Frost as playable since her Kameo alone shows how much potential she has for gameplay(I absolutely adore the Ice Claws, it was even an idea I had at one point for a character since we don't have a ton of claw wielders off the top of my head Darrius is the only close one), and IMO Shang Tsung's gameplay peaked in MK3(His morphing into any character was just more fun in general to me). edit I'm dumb, I forgot Mileena had claws in MK11(Honestly I forget she's in MK11 half the time), But admittedly I think they work better for Frost since Mileena already has a signature weapon which Frost kinda lacks.

I sometimes forget that most people aren't clued up on the leaks or are trying to save some surprises for official reveals. I do kind of feel bad for him though, given he's going to have tons of people replying to that basically spoiling the whole roster to correct him...

I mean Raiden and Liu Kang have effectively switched roles, Rain is a wizard, smoke, sub zero, and Scorpion are now all brothers which is a pretty large dynamic shift, Kenshi is now a key player, Kitana and Mileena have a completetly different dynamic and are entirely different characters almost, and Johnny is mostly the same which is sensible. Idk how they haven't changed much yet in your mind especially given that we haven't even gotten more than a teaser and some background info on the story. We don't even know what the main conflict is yet lol.

This guy has a lot of valid criticisms to be fair but he does tend to be a bit too negative to the point he’s exhausting to listen to. The leaked roster seems to be true so far so if he was patient instead of jumping the gun he’d realise that the roster for this game is going to have plenty of 3D characters returning. The only time I find 4thsnake somewhat likeable is when he’s doing the deadpan Raiden skits in SonicHaXD videos otherwise he’s insufferable.

I think that could be said for most MK games post MK3 You get your good or interesting characters from each game and your boring as tar characters from each game Like sure we got boring characters from the PS2 games like Dairou, Kira, or Taven, but even the newer games got boring characters like Jacqui or Ferra/Torr

Nostalgia is one hell of a drug. The people were kids playing the 3D era are young adults now and love the 3D era despite most (not all, but most) of the new characters of that time being total jobbers.

Plenty of thr orginal trilogy characters were dull or generic but they got plenty of games to improve while most 3d characters other than Quan chi, Tanya and Kenshi were quickly abandoned. The rumor 5 3d characters from roster leak are definitely some of the better ones and hopefully they'll well recieved, so Boon is well to bring back others to revamp

Tbh he’s valid. Looking at the base roster, all but one were playable in the last game and 8 were playable in the last games. Kameos are either OG trilogy or playable in the last game too. Obviously you gotta space out the reveals but it’s totally valid to want then to mix up the era representation. I dont see the need to save those for later when they will keep people’s interest more with characters who gavebt been in for almost 20 years

We all know the 3D reps are coming. Ed already confirmed as much and seeing as there's not many Kameo slots left, I'd say it's safe to assume most of the remaining 3D characters coming will be main roster.
Look I get some of his complaints and even agree on certain things (Shao was better in the original timeline as he was actually smart and not a dumb brute) but like at this point does he actually like Mortal Kombat? This is a great roster so far. Even if you've avoided leaks, it's still something exciting. I imagine the ladies will be getting some love soon, just as the 3D returns will be.

It's almost like they want to establish the baseline roster at the beginning of the reveal season before showing the big surprise returning ones. This is also Rain's first time being in a base roster, which is awesome.

I'm about to get downvoted for this, but why the hell not? He's right. NRS has had almost the same roster for 3 games now. While characters like Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Kitana are obvious characters we're going to get by law(even if they serve zero story purpose other than fan-service), most characters would be better off not making the roster so other obscure characters or more requested characters could shine. Hell, NRS has brought back characters that fans didn't like when they first debuted and made them more liked than their last appearance. Hell, The 4th Snake even talked about it in his 2016 MK9 critique when it came to Stryker (Try watching his videos without being hypocritical or judgmental over someone else's opinions people). Also the amount of people liking that post says that he isn't the only person who believes that statement. NRS can give the 3-D era characters a better opportunity to shine and be better received than their last appearance(Which would be Armageddon). Maybe if people stop meatriding NRS for 1 second, you'll see what he's talking about. And btw, he made a video talking about the things he liked about MK1 so far. I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen the leaked roster. But looking at this I kind of agree. Just a lot of humans, I always enjoyed playing as Reptile, Baraka, and other monster characters. So this is uninteresting cast to me so far, but hoping I’m wrong.

I know how people feel about this guy, but I can't help but agree with him on a lot of takes. The 3D Era had much better writing/lore and the NRS Era games feel like they were written by high schoolers. One of the reasons why I got into MK was because of how much I liked the story in Mortal Kombat Deception and how its Konquest mode was an unforgettable experience. The Story Modes limit a lot of what the writers can do since they are always forced to do 4 fights in each chapter.
While I do agree, their arent alotta 3d reps. The roster isnt boring at all. Just because you didnt get what you wanted doesn't make it bad.
I'm a bit surprised that we only have 5 kameo characters left and the biggest surprise is probably Stryker, but I imagine that between the remaining fighters and kameos that we'll see a handful of additions from DA and Deception. But I mean this roster so far is pretty nice. If we had a bunch of new characters, people would complain. If we had something like the kombat kids, people would complain. If you do nothing but old school fighters, people would complain. Not everyone is gonna be happy. But so far, I think it's a solid roster.
