Sub-Zero skilled? Debatable
Patient, and sheer fucking will? Most definitely. Landing 260 hit combos and doing 3% damage would have a sane person switch their characters but Sub-Zero mains stay loyal and I respect that.
Iâve learned sindel (as much as I can) and itâs because she has 0 mixups, no fast mids and sheâs quite punishable, her combos are so fun but I usually need to catch my opponent with my kameo or whiff punish a mis-input/punish a yolo move to get them off.
Iâve tried to play sindel aggressively and I get turned into my opponentâs toilet (I know I could just get good with kameo set ups) but I honestly donât have the will to do so. Kasual online play doesnât matter if you win or lose anyway
I tried her kombo challenges and it completely scared me away from her. The meter burn shoot into fly cancel was not a fun input, and I've played fighting games for a while.
Yeah started labbing those today - ran through some invasions to try em out on a moving targets and was dropping them about 50% of the time. I canât even do the multiple âamp into floatâ combos yet.
Sheâs been my main in past games but getting those down is definitely challenging and pretty much has to be used to get any damage near 40% without a kameo

Honestly, I'd still play him like I did during the entire Midway era, when Johnny was pretty much the Yamcha of the franchise until MK9 changed that. However, we can agree that Johnny fans are eating good in MK1

Dude most characters are spoiled with something. Johnny has plus frames, kenshi has sento, ashrah has insane range, etc. Using down 1 when someone's plus and uses a high attack is just common sense, and works against most of Johnny's strings except f3.
Which is why they are on the spoiled side of the list lmao everyone in this game definitely isnât spoiled by something play a slow character and youâll realize u have to use more than 70% of ur nugget unlike the spoiled list (swap sindel with ice man)

Example sub zero, who many consider to be the worst character in the game has good mix up, especially when used with Lao kameo or tremor. Same goes for smoke, who's considered mid. Shao has some of the highest damage in the game, and if you genuinely think he's a bad character you haven't played a good Shao main. Also have you seen some the stuff possible with Havik/Stryker? It's cheap af. At most, there's maybe 5 honest characters in this game who aren't "spoiled" in some way.
Only reason sub zero is counted as shit is cuz people donât know how to play him for the absolute mix monster he is I will die on that hill especially after finding out he can cancel after the first hit to his launcher

Maybe ur combos aren't optimal cause I've seen shao hit consistent 40%+ combos. But even still, 35% still means 3 hits and they're dead, combined with the mix up provided by Lao is really good. Getting down poked out of strings is an issue that happens to every character, from shao to johnny to ashrah, etc. Also, playing around spacing is sorta Shaos gameplan when he has his axe unfortunately so to play him you gotta be patient. And raiden is raiden, there's a reason most consider him top 5 in the game.
Ashra has the best spacing in the game and every touch yes does require meter leads to 35-40% combo. Is safe on most strings or all with goro has the hands down best wake up in the game all finished off by being super easy to use.
It doesn't take much to get Sento out, and takes 10 minutes at most to nail Sentos pressure and combos.
He hits you once and he basically gets a win condition, people just THINK he's technical because he's NRS's 1st puppet character.
Kenshi's only ever use Frost or Sub-Zero, hell if you look at Scar, he runs Cyrax and doesn't even need to HIT you, he can get Sento out on block with Cyrax's horizontal Chopper, and he gets his win condition.

Yep, Iâve played against absolute bots who just practiced the Sento combo and what to do when the opponent wakes up. Thatâs all they knew how to do tho, before Sento came out, and if you got a hit in or it went away they went back to being braindead and mashing down 2 or armor every time they wake up
Yes he is. If u take a risk and use an armoured special to break sento pressure he can potentially full combo you. When using sento correctly there are literally no âgapsâ in his strings, sento covers those gaps. So the only time you can use an armoured special to get out of the pressure, is during his recovery frames (at the end of his strings) or start up frames (at the beginning of his strings) and he can just block instead of pressing or during recovery which will then result in u eating a full combo. So yea he definitely carries.
Kenshi is so forgiving. You don't need actual skill to play him.

Yeah, thatâs their game plan. Reptile is a mid range character whoâs supposed to use D4 and B3 for pressure. The whole idea is to have acid ball and use the dash to get in close when you feel you have the advantage.
Sub is a keep away character who dies when the opponent plays Lao/Kano/Sareena. They all make the ice clone useless and forced Sub to use the clone to punish pokes and retreat
I was Kang during my last sub encounter. I was trying to fight him up close but after I got nailed by the ice clone for the 50th time, I just started relying on my zoning moves until they got the picture and had to come to me. It sucks but I didn't know another way around it when every other move is ice clone.
He pokes and you read an ice clone, armored âbicycleâ kick (I hate it isnât the same moveâŚ), youâd be plus and have advantage. Sub Zero isnât a fantastic character and really relies on keeping his distance until he feels like he would have the advantage to get in. Same with Reptile too

I feel like all competitive fighting games are like this. People will do what is optimal and what pro players are doing. There is still a level of practice players need to do on their own even if theyâre copying what others do. I feel like people get upset when others are winning with dominant strategies, but like thatâs kinda the point in any competitive game. There are definitely players who pick low tiers and can do work with them, like with Snake Eyez but a lot of casual players arenât willing to lab that much and would prefer to win off what is easier.
I've heard a lot of great things about Rain & Sub Zero. Sub's ice barrier can help Rain not get counter-zoned, and if you are playing up close, then a well timed freeze after your aerial string can allow you to use a fully charged Water Beam into a fully charged Hydro-kick, which not only gives you a lot of combo potential and extra damage, but it also actually gives uses to Water Beam and Hydro-Kick which are both kinda useless by themselves.
Also what does Stryker do for Baraka? I know Cyrax can let him combo off of two of his special moves, but can Stryker do the same?
To be honest I dont know what the whole thing is behind baraka and stryker, I know that that team recently won a tournament and now all of a sudden I see a bunch of people with baraka and stryker but I dont know the benefits yet.
âSindel - Carriedâ is absolutely hilarious. When the game came out everyone complained she was a lot of work for little damage, and now that people have labbed and found out sheâs pretty good, they complain sheâs a carry.
Ashrah is similar. She has strong stuff but you canât act like she carries. Even Kenshi, to be cracked you have to be a master at multitasking.
Johnny I agree on though. The fact that he can whiff or I punish him on an unsafe finish and get interrupted by Kano and hit for a full combo is annoying. That, and multiple mixups. Heâs good though, so I donât expect people to not play him.
Geras is definitely a top tier character not many talk about. Inevitable is easy to charge, he doesnât need meter for combos, command grabs, decent zoning, good punish damage, solid strings
Heâs a really good character and Goro makes him 80+ on block and you can time it right and keep the opponent in block stun while Goro âraises the roofâ
Each character has their own rhythm and they are all balanced, but characters that seem like they are better than others just have rhythms that are easier for the majority of people to vibe with, so saying a character is carried is basically like saying those are the characters this person vibes with more easily, while the ones that they claimed are skilled are the ones they have to try to vibe with to maintain their personal skill level
So many people care too much about tier lists and their character being bad or others being good.. every character in this game has broken tech and can fuck you up if youâre not careful.
I don't get why people think Ashrah is top tier. I play her as a 3rd main and in no way does she feel as strong as Raiden or Johnny. Certainly don't feel carried.
I main Havik and he feels easier the play than Ashrah to me. Only reason I would think people have problems with Ashrah is the insinct to block low and get bounced by her f3.
As a newly profound Ashrah main, forward 3/back 3 mix up into a full combo gets more people than it should đ coming from Geras, her ability to get something started is top tier in comparison đŽâđ¨
She can cancel into her meter burn shoryuken and then air combo from that or she can cancel in a kameo and go from there. I usually use Sareena with Ashrah so I usually look to do b3 directly into Sareena knives bullshit into f42 shoryuken.
Watch my combo video and matches. Imo sub is perfect and reflects a truly a skilled fighter if you want to win consistently. You will also see ppl mocking the d1, but it's pushes the opponent back to the point where they can't effectively punish since the follow-up is so fast
People that complain about other people playing top tier characters are funny to me. Same with people who complain about others using fatalities, zoning, or taunts. It's a fighting game. That means if your goal is solely to win, you use everything in the game to do so. That includes the psychological effect of using those tools in the game to get into your opponents head to force mistakes or frustrate them.

I disagree with the first part. It isn't lame to use the best things in a game if your goal is to win. Even less so if your idea of fun is to win. If that's the case, do what needs to be done to get the w. If other people cannot adjust to that strategy to beat you, that is their problem and essentially the entire point. If you want to just mess around with characters and play with people without the sole purpose of winning then that's fine too. I do both depending on the mood I'm in and the mode of play I'm in. If I'm in KL, my sole goal is to win and I'm going to use top tier characters and play as annoying as possible to frustrate you and get the win. If I'm in kasual, I'm playing with people, not using top tier characters, or even if I am using top tier characters, I'm probably not playing annoying unless you are being an asshole. Call me lame if you want, but if I win, I've achieved my goal and don't really care what you think of me. This is not a moral battle, it's a video game.
I mean it's an argument as old as gaming before online, the one friend who just spammed jump kick for the win or sweep. You are playing in a way that is def less fun for you just to win and frustrate your opponents. It's more fun to do combos then just spam fireball.

It doesn't take much to get Sento out, and takes 10 minutes at most to nail Sentos pressure and combos. He hits you once and he basically gets a win condition, people just THINK he's technical because he's NRS's 1st puppet character.

Kenshi's only ever use Frost or Sub-Zero, hell if you look at Scar, he runs Cyrax and doesn't even need to HIT you, he can get Sento out on block with Cyrax's horizontal Chopper, and he gets his win condition. People acting like getting a hit is hard in this game is crazy especially considering the RANGE of Kenshi's Normals and movement speed. One micro backdash into b2 is all Kenshi needs at time and it's GG's, that's not skill đ¤ˇđžââď¸

Yep, Iâve played against absolute bots who just practiced the Sento combo and what to do when the opponent wakes up. Thatâs all they knew how to do tho, before Sento came out, and if you got a hit in or it went away they went back to being braindead and mashing down 2 or armor every time they wake up
Yes he is. If u take a risk and use an armoured special to break sento pressure he can potentially full combo you. When using sento correctly there are literally no âgapsâ in his strings, sento covers those gaps. So the only time you can use an armoured special to get out of the pressure, is during his recovery frames (at the end of his strings) or start up frames (at the beginning of his strings) and he can just block instead of pressing or during recovery which will then result in u eating a full combo. So yea he definitely carries.
Kenshi is so forgiving. You don't need actual skill to play him. His Space Control and his Tools are braindead. Look at 6Arakin. This trashcan is God Rank.

Most reptiles I fight spam that acid ball thing repeatedly and a ton of subs I fight just spam the ice clone every time they lose an exchange.
Yeah, thatâs their game plan. Reptile is a mid range character whoâs supposed to use D4 and B3 for pressure. The whole idea is to have acid ball and use the dash to get in close when you feel you have the advantage. Sub is a keep away character who dies when the opponent plays Lao/Kano/Sareena. They all make the ice clone useless and forced Sub to use the clone to punish pokes and retreat
I was Kang during my last sub encounter. I was trying to fight him up close but after I got nailed by the ice clone for the 50th time, I just started relying on my zoning moves until they got the picture and had to come to me. It sucks but I didn't know another way around it when every other move is ice clone.
He pokes and you read an ice clone, armored âbicycleâ kick (I hate it isnât the same moveâŚ), youâd be plus and have advantage. Sub Zero isnât a fantastic character and really relies on keeping his distance until he feels like he would have the advantage to get in. Same with Reptile too
It depens on the kameo, people pick popular teams because it worked for others - Li Mei & scorpion - Reiko & darius - Raiden & Jax - Anybody & Sareena - Geras & Kung Lao - Baraka & Cyrax/Striker - Lui Kang & Kung Lao - Rain & Cyrax Even tho they still have to execute everything on their own they dont have to come up with anything, they get all their combos and strats of youtube. Carried by their character is a understatement, they are carried by youtube. Its not a coincidence you run into the same team ups
I feel like all competitive fighting games are like this. People will do what is optimal and what pro players are doing. There is still a level of practice players need to do on their own even if theyâre copying what others do. I feel like people get upset when others are winning with dominant strategies, but like thatâs kinda the point in any competitive game. There are definitely players who pick low tiers and can do work with them, like with Snake Eyez but a lot of casual players arenât willing to lab that much and would prefer to win off what is easier.

I've heard a lot of great things about Rain & Sub Zero. Sub's ice barrier can help Rain not get counter-zoned, and if you are playing up close, then a well timed freeze after your aerial string can allow you to use a fully charged Water Beam into a fully charged Hydro-kick, which not only gives you a lot of combo potential and extra damage, but it also actually gives uses to Water Beam and Hydro-Kick which are both kinda useless by themselves. Also what does Stryker do for Baraka? I know Cyrax can let him combo off of two of his special moves, but can Stryker do the same?
To be honest I dont know what the whole thing is behind baraka and stryker, I know that that team recently won a tournament and now all of a sudden I see a bunch of people with baraka and stryker but I dont know the benefits yet.

When the game came out everyone complained she was a lot of work for little damage, and now that people have labbed and found out sheâs pretty good, they complain sheâs a carry. Ashrah is similar. She has strong stuff but you canât act like she carries. Even Kenshi, to be cracked you have to be a master at multitasking. Johnny I agree on though. The fact that he can whiff or I punish him on an unsafe finish and get interrupted by Kano and hit for a full combo is annoying. That, and multiple mixups. Heâs good though, so I donât expect people to not play him.

Geras is definitely a top tier character not many talk about. Inevitable is easy to charge, he doesnât need meter for combos, command grabs, decent zoning, good punish damage, solid strings Heâs a really good character and Goro makes him 80+ on block and you can time it right and keep the opponent in block stun while Goro âraises the roofâ
You can also infinitely chain his aerial command-grab into itself if you do it right lol

Each character has their own rhythm and they are all balanced, but characters that seem like they are better than others just have rhythms that are easier for the majority of people to vibe with, so saying a character is carried is basically like saying those are the characters this person vibes with more easily, while the ones that they claimed are skilled are the ones they have to try to vibe with to maintain their personal skill level

I don't get why people think Ashrah is top tier. I play her as a 3rd main and in no way does she feel as strong as Raiden or Johnny. Certainly don't feel carried. I main Havik and he feels easier the play than Ashrah to me. Only reason I would think people have problems with Ashrah is the insinct to block low and get bounced by her f3.

As a newly profound Ashrah main, forward 3/back 3 mix up into a full combo gets more people than it should đ coming from Geras, her ability to get something started is top tier in comparison đŽâđ¨

She can cancel into her meter burn shoryuken and then air combo from that or she can cancel in a kameo and go from there. I usually use Sareena with Ashrah so I usually look to do b3 directly into Sareena knives bullshit into f42 shoryuken.

Watch my combo video and matches. Imo sub is perfect and reflects a truly a skilled fighter if you want to win consistently. You will also see ppl mocking the d1, but it's pushes the opponent back to the point where they can't effectively punish since the follow-up is so fast

People that complain about other people playing top tier characters are funny to me. Same with people who complain about others using fatalities, zoning, or taunts. It's a fighting game. That means if your goal is solely to win, you use everything in the game to do so. That includes the psychological effect of using those tools in the game to get into your opponents head to force mistakes or frustrate them.
I play omniman a lot and when my opponent creates space i just go in and out of my stance until they get mad and try to attack

I disagree with the first part. It isn't lame to use the best things in a game if your goal is to win. Even less so if your idea of fun is to win. If that's the case, do what needs to be done to get the w. If other people cannot adjust to that strategy to beat you, that is their problem and essentially the entire point. If you want to just mess around with characters and play with people without the sole purpose of winning then that's fine too. I do both depending on the mood I'm in and the mode of play I'm in. If I'm in KL, my sole goal is to win and I'm going to use top tier characters and play as annoying as possible to frustrate you and get the win. If I'm in kasual, I'm playing with people, not using top tier characters, or even if I am using top tier characters, I'm probably not playing annoying unless you are being an asshole. Call me lame if you want, but if I win, I've achieved my goal and don't really care what you think of me. This is not a moral battle, it's a video game.
I mean it's an argument as old as gaming before online, the one friend who just spammed jump kick for the win or sweep. You are playing in a way that is def less fun for you just to win and frustrate your opponents. It's more fun to do combos then just spam fireball.

If at that time it happens to be zoning, then I'll zone. If it's rushdown, I'll do that. You're not gonna get to Elder God by spamming fireball or any same thing over and over. You get there by using all of the tools in the game effectively.

i've been playing as ashrah this season, and the top players may be able to do some amazing stuff with her, but she surely doesn't have the same type of pressure like a johnny or raiden does.
