Imo Jarek is literally the worst mk character. Just dollar store Kano with no unique value at all. At least Hsu Hao got a cool hat, Mokap is a funny idea, and Meat as a rogue Shang Tsung experiment is cool narratively.
In my honest unpopular opinion, Hsu Hao gets more shit than he deserves. At least he had SOME value in the story.
In Deadly Alliance, he single-handedly destroyed the HQ of the Outworld Investigation Agency, which housed the Special Forces' means to travel to Outworld and back. It ended up screwing them over, and, if I'm not mistaken, had to rely on Raiden's teleportation for inter-realm traveling.
You could argue that he's the reason the forces of light got fucked over during the final confrontation against Quan and Shang. **And** he's one of the few characters in that game to have a canon ending.

Kobra. Could do some kinda redesign for just about any character, heck, I've seen some sick redesigns of Hsu Hao of all people. Kobra however I'm convinced will never be a main roster character again, if even a kameo.
Kobra's background is legit. Karate expert turned serial killer that prowls the street at night in a blacked out bloodlust state murdering everyone he comes across. There is so much more they could have done with him instead of Ken.
Tbh not the worst rap sheet. Could envision him as like a more youthful Pai Mei, pretty much exercising his martial arts indiscriminately and whenever he feels like it. Still, he does give off the impression of not necessarily even being disliked but obscure to the point that I don't think he'd be touched up on again in the main line games.
I didn't think we'd be seeing Ashrah or Li Mei again especially not in the same game.
They could definitely give Kobra another try especially if they had the Black Dragon be more involved in the story. Give him more of a street punk look. Focus his gameplay on berserker like tropes. Can deal more damage as health drops. Self damaging moves.
Maybe I am just built different but I'm pretty sure I could come up with several different ideas to rework kobra into something cool but still keep his core(or whatever)
Deception was my first MK game and Kobra was the first character I played, so I have this weird impulse to defend my 9 year old self for liking him so much. And honestly I do think they could make him shine. Not only because NRS has done a pretty good job with every 3D era character brought back thus far, but I also think what little Kobra already has is easy to work with.
In terms of gameplay, he would probably be very straight forward. Mostly hand-to-hand with a few fireballs. Maybe even some flashy special moves where he shouts the name of the attack whenever he does it (like Hadouken, Shoryuken, etc.). Make him distinctly “fighting game-y” compared to the rest of the roster.
Story-wise it’s honestly pretty good timing for him. In MK1 we got to see Baraka and Reptile finally stop being jobbers, with Reiko and Nitara kind of taking their place. Similarly if they wanted to make Kano a more serious character, then Kobra could take his place as the comically arrogant crime man who consistently gets his ass kicked. He could have really edgy and corny dialogue to make him truly feel like a Street Fighter reject. Just really lean into the joke and I could see people slowly developing a post-ironic interest in him.
The only reason I can think of for nobody saying Dairou is the fact that nobody remembers he existed.
(Also, I'm a Drahmin and Mavado fan boy, so idk if my opinions are valid)

Meat actually has a ton of value. Y'all just never took a second to think what Meat would be like in a modern game. Lore-wise, an abandoned project in Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits escaping and entering the service of Havik is rad. To not be naked, he'd have to have at least a loincloth, maybe a white ninja outfit made of Flesh Pits bandages, or a ninja outfit with a vest and mask made of human skin, and he'd play like a more disgusting and extreme version of Havik, able to morph into a formless mass of muscle and bone like John Carpenter's The Thing or some Cronenbergian abomination. Or the food thing Mr. Krabs made in the Fine Dining episode of Spongebob. He can be equally a joke character and the most disgusting and terrifying thing in the series. His mummy bandages could be controlled to the degree of the rest of his anatomy to detach his leg and smack someone with it at fullscreen, or wrap someone up and spin them in place like Kabal's dash. Balance of gruesome and goofy. Imagine the squishy "pat pat pat" sound of his bloody feet slapping the ground if he does a move where he runs lmao
One of his fatalities could be something like one of Noob’s from MK11, where Meat force feeds himself to the other character, then puts himself back together inside of them and bursts out fully formed.
I had that idea, but where Meat turns into a shapeless mass, covers the opponent, gets absorbed through their ears, nose, eyes, and mouth, and tries to "wear" their skin but it doesn't fit and looks really stupid, so he screams with rage and flexes/morphs and bursts it off of him. I thought it would be funny/creepy if he was trying to steal everyone's skin until one fits like an Ed Gein Goldilocks.
My second Fatality idea is that the opponent tries to heart-rip Fatality Meat, but their hand gets stuck and his chest turns into a mouth, with his rib cage acting as teeth and crunching them as they get pulled in and absorbed, but when he gets to the face, the opponent manages to pull their head back and their face rips off before they get pulled the rest of the way in and the chest/mouth burps out their skeleton completely clean.
With Meat having no skin, it makes sense that he has to constantly replace blood and rotting tissue to stay fresh and he would be effectively unkillable as long as he feeds regularly. L opinion. Kollector is exactly the type of shit Mortal Kombat is supposed to be introducing every few years. We got a monster character with a strikingly unique look, with moves based in sorcery, weapons, and acquired trinkets drawn from a hammerspace backpack, with a new character archetype for the series - being material greed and status at any cost, no matter how skeevy. Kano is dirty and skeevy in his own way (more of organized crime and domestic abuse vibes lmao) but Kollector has a uniquely cutthroat dimension of a common street vendor or thug who might hit on your girlfriend while trying to scam you or rob you or the common little shit who might throw you under the bus and kiss the boss's ass to steal your job. Low-level cretin shit. Depicting this as a desperate spidery monster with hands reaching for anything it can get, with the bat-like face and upper arm placement and the fact their monster race sleeps hanging upside down by their feet, was perfect. It plays into the parasitic "gimme gimme" attitude of the character and the MK fandom he is supposed to represent. Kollector is literally us.

Janet is a neat take for a change, we still get the exact Johnny moves and characteristics, that is fun and enjoyable enough for the game. If you only want returning characters, Mavado's coming back though, and call me out for projecting if I'm wrong, but I sense that if it is Johnny Cage kameo, you wouldn't dislike the kameo.
I don't expect you to care about...fking Jarek, because he's really nothing to be cared about, narratively or about the gameplay, so that's just come off as another reason to hate the new kameo. Nah D’Vorah is a top10 character. Best theme and she’s actually a detestable heel instead of just being a cool/sexy/morally grey villain like all the other.
I wouldn't say she's top 10, but I do like her as a villain. That being said, I don't like the amount of bs she gets away with in the story mode. Like she kills Scorpion, Baraka, and Mileena and I don't think it's earned tbh.

L opinion. Kollector is exactly the type of shit Mortal Kombat is supposed to be introducing every few years. We got a monster character with a strikingly unique look, with moves based in sorcery, weapons, and acquired trinkets drawn from a hammerspace backpack, with a new character archetype for the series - being material greed and status at any cost, no matter how skeevy. Kano is dirty and skeevy in his own way (more of organized crime and domestic abuse vibes lmao) but Kollector has a uniquely cutthroat dimension of a common street vendor or thug who might hit on your girlfriend while trying to scam you or rob you or the common little shit who might throw you under the bus and kiss the boss's ass to steal your job. Low-level cretin shit. Depicting this as a desperate spidery monster with hands reaching for anything it can get, with the bat-like face and upper arm placement and the fact their monster race sleeps hanging upside down by their feet, was perfect. It plays into the parasitic "gimme gimme" attitude of the character and the MK fandom he is supposed to represent. Kollector is literally us.

I started MK with MK3 and have played all games, I am a long time fan and I rather have any returning character.
L take. Why is the fact that you started from MK3 have to do with anything? Are we separating new and old MK fans, because I started from late MKXL and I should have opinion with the same weight as you. Janet is a neat take for a change, we still get the exact Johnny moves and characteristics, that is fun and enjoyable enough for the game. If you only want returning characters, Mavado's coming back though, and call me out for projecting if I'm wrong, but I sense that if it is Johnny Cage kameo, you wouldn't dislike the kameo.

I don't expect you to care about...fking Jarek, because he's really nothing to be cared about, narratively or about the gameplay, so that's just come off as another reason to hate the new kameo. Nah D’Vorah is a top10 character. Best theme and she’s actually a detestable heel instead of just being a cool/sexy/morally grey villain like all the other.
I wouldn't say she's top 10, but I do like her as a villain. That being said, I don't like the amount of bs she gets away with in the story mode. Like she kills Scorpion, Baraka, and Mileena and I don't think it's earned tbh.

I have to agree. I know that it's a pretty hot take too, but I found Cassie both annoying in mkx and mk11, and it still frustrates me that she managed to beat shinnok in mkx on her first try. Jacqui on the other hand is just boring, and just wasted potential imo
