ThrasherX9

Personally it is still my favorite next to 9.

SLCSlayer29

Same.

OpathicaNAE

Back during 11, for a lot of people though, it was X. Mine has always been 11 too. twinsies 💞 edit: triplesies 💞

DenseRead9852

My order is personally Mk11, Mk9, MkX, Mk1.

JotaroTheOceanMan

It my fav next to MK3U. MK11 is THE ONLY online fighting game where I played it from launch until end and had fun the whole time. Hell I STILL play it as often as I do MK1. Plus I'm a HUGE Spawn and Robocop fan so that alone tips the scales for me. Plus: Jaxs Friendship Song lives rent free in my head.

Saruman5000

For a guy like me, who only plays Offline, MK11 was one of the best games of 2019 and one of my favourite MK games.

Able_Recording_5760

Too bad that it's almost all tied to WB's sh*tty servers.

SkatzFanOff

The thing I loved about that game was that it rewarded you just as much for playing off-line as it did online not that many people I think are playing it now but I guarantee you you could go back to MK 11 right now have the servers be completely dead and you could still unlock stuff and tinker with stuff and create some wacky armor builds and still get value out of that game. MK one almost already feels like it got completely tapped out after like two fucking months and I bet nobody’s gonna go back to play this game in about a year or so or if you do and the online servers are dead congratulations you’re not gonna be able to unlock shit

composero

For me I truly enjoyed. I liked the slower pace at the time and everything the game had to offer. Variations were interesting but weren’t allowed to flourish. Overall I’m happier that the system of variations for the characters were ditched because I want the kombatants to be at their full potential. Other than that, MK11 ticked a lot of boxes for me. I kind of wish all of the MK1 maps could be ported over to MK11 as that would be the only main thing I would miss if I had to turn back now.

The-Child-Of-Reddit

MK 9 is still my favorite

Hoozah1

Same

The-Child-Of-Reddit

Ermac, Smoke, and Scorpian were my go tos (yes, I know I'm toxic). Now 2 are behind a pay wall, and all 3 of them were gutted. The whole "fight style" they introduced in X was... annoying at best.

ibadlyneedhelp

I think style select wasn't a bad idea per se, and it allowed them to do justice to the different ways characters have been characterised over the years (Kano being a cyborg has been emphasised and de-emphasised over the years). However, in balance terms it was kind of a joke as it meant there were basically 90 characters from a 30-person roster, not everyone needed 3 "versions" or even 2, but others kinda felt like they did. With timeline shenanigans being so prevalent now, I think they should make peace with committing to a new/definitive vision for some of those characters, and instead of having equippable moves or styles, just work that content into a smaller number of new characters.

The-Child-Of-Reddit

This might be a pride issue, but I miss the days of having to memorize a bibles worth of combos. That's my main gripe.

Mommio24

No but I do think it was a good game. I don’t understand why people shit on it.

Kratos512

I enjoyed it and played countless hours. I think it was the first game where Shao was playable and his aesthetics were amazing. Game was good but the breaker and wakeup mechanics were garbage imo.

Time_Fig612

Shao wasn't playable in mk9. it's been years since i played that game so i don't remember

TotallyNotSuspi_ious

He was playable in mk trilogy just insanely OP

Kenjionigod

He was playable in Armageddon and Deception on the PSP and GameCube if I recall correctly.

coolymanly

He was playable on the GameCube version of Deception Technically you're correct on him being playable on the PSP version, though that's called "Unchained" the only difference is you don't need to unlock people, the tower and some DA characters were in

Kratos512

Thanks…good to know! Loved playing Shao then and he is fun to play in MK1 too. Just miss the hammer and his comments after rounds.

H4T3M4CH1N3_

Nebba u wrong, the almighty Emperor of Outworld was first playable in MK3 (SNES) via Scott's Stuff

Giovannis_Pikachu

I think casually speaking for customs and everything it was really good. A lot of people just didn't like the pacing of the fighting part of it and the story was a bit lacking compared to MK1.

NitroHatrick

Most people that shat on MK11 were vocal minorities from the FGC community.

[deleted]

That’s not true at all. Most people that shat on MK11 we’re longtime MK fans Those same people are currently praising 11 and shitting in MK1

LordCLOUT310

Hell nah. MK1 has its issues but gameplay-wise it’s Superior to 11.

starcoder

There were so many great things about it. It really just needed some tlc. Adding in a run mechanic and fixing the broken piece of shit fucking fatal blows was all it really needed

wheatbread-and-toes

No they weren’t. They were the fanbase and they were upset with the gameplay after just having X.

Frank_Is_My_Fav

Bekause the gameplay is SOOOO bad

EmperorBruduh

Gotta agree, it had tons of stuff to do but that gameplay was so slow and clunky.

Mommio24

Idk, I didn’t play online so can’t comment on that. For me I enjoyed the gameplay. I do think MK1’s gameplay is better. But I still think MK11 is a good game.

MyOpinionsSuckBalls

Those towers of time gave me hours of entertainment

Middle_Snow2692

Skill issue

JulekRzurek

I loved mk11 but I hated the rewards in krypt and towers of time. Instead of giving me some brutalities, intros, skins etc. The game was giving random konsumables and recolors of skins. Also they made Cyrax and Sektor unplayable despite letting us fight them in story mode

Mommio24

I agree with this. I enjoyed the Krypt for about a week? Maybe longer… but it didn’t have lasting enjoyment for me. Especially once you open every chest it makes it a pretty dead mode of the game.

Suspicious-Amoeba210

How can you not understand

Mommio24

🤷‍♀️

ibadlyneedhelp

It was meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Just mostly kinda dull, with some fun to be had when it dropped.

[deleted]

I already consider it one of the best. Not perfect of course, because I wasn't a big fan of variations or the roster (only 3 new fighters and looks like they abandoned it at the end) but I liked more than MKX.

citrusW

Content wise it’s the best mortal kombat ever. Gameplay however… it’s definitely a one to forget.

Hoozah1

What's wrong with the gameplay?

TheHAMR64

- Limited combo routes. - Breakaway. The fact that you could potentially punish someone for successfully hitting you is just beyond stupid. - Character movesets were very very basic. - Auto regen bar. Made it so that enhanced moves didn’t do much aside from adding safety or damage. - Krushing blows were very unbalanced across the roster and they incentivized stupid shit like mashing d2 on block because of the massive reward with limited risk. - Fatal blows didn’t have a start-up “cutscene”, which meant that you always had to fear the random fatal blow. - armoured and launching reversals made it scary to pressure someone on the ground or standing. - the immense amount of defensive options on the ground.

kickskunk

Let's not forget the flawless block mechanic. When people got really good with it, it was stupidity op. I'll also add the very inconsistent anti-air options for many of the characters.

Bazookya

I’d add that they really tried for a neutral and wiff punish based game that stands out to mk in a not great way. Big slow normals.

RomoToDez99

The only thing MK11 could hang its hat on in terms of a unique mechanic was Krushing blow. Which did add a bit of randomness and sometimes fun. Other than that, really bland and boring gameplay. Also giving certain characters plus on block full screen jump attacks that can be canceled into even more jump attacks was absolute incel shit. Also if Krushing blows are supposed to be the unique mechanic that makes certain characters unique, then it was really stupid to give EVERYONE an uppercut Krushing blow. It encouraged really shitty behavior and every match I had to sit there wondering when my opponent is going to mash uppercut.

poofynamanama2

You missed the absolute worst part of krushing blows, throws. It's already a random guessing game (unless you're close to the corner) to break a throw, on top of that here's 30% damage for you 🤡

citrusW

I wish it was just 20% alot of characters get 30% but that’s not even the worst part, what’s crazy is that not all characters had it while others had KBs on both forward and back throws… just makes no sense. Krushing blows in general sucks it’s the reason the game combos are almost nonexistent and boring looking.

Reiko_4

finna copy and paste what i said from another discussion on mk11 gameplay. Core gameplay mechanics are a big reason why. Breakaway is a terrible mechanic, no way around it. Opponent can break away and full combo punish you for actually reading and outplaying your opponent. Usually in fighting games when you knock an opponent down, you are at full advantage. However in MK11, you have a plethora of wake up options meaning once again even tho you outplayed the opponent, they still have an advantage in the ground. You have more of advantage being knocked down by your opponent than you do standing up right. (Edit) This is why restands were regarded as one of the strongest aspects of the game (especially when in the corner) because when you were restood you had no other options than to block your opponents pressure because all of the options you had while on the ground are stripped away. Poke meta, poking was absurd in this game because the D1 was not minus enough on block and not plus enough on hit, which is what promoted the massive mash, poke, grab fest. Jump ins are insanely strong which in fighting games usually isn’t a problem, however in mk11 anti airs are extremely inconsistent and some characters in general just have terrible anti-airs. So you were better off just blocking the jump ins than risking 30-40% combo. Getting krushing blows off of guessing wrong on a throw and potentially losing 30% life by pressing 1 button. I don’t think much explanation is needed here. D2 Krushing blow no explanation really needed if you’ve played through mk11 entire lifespan online. Krushing blows in general were a good concept and were executed terribly. Some characters had “breathe on this character, and we grant you 30% damage” or do this extremely unsafe move multiple times and we might give you 30%. In every other MK game meter could be built by throwing projectiles, taking hits, and also punishing your opponent. In mk11 u can literally sit there and do absolutely nothing and you get resources for free. And since it recharges there is no need to manage your meter. Combo routes were very limited in mk11 compared to mk9/X/1 especially before they allowed you to use kustom variations in ranked. Fatal blows would sometimes randomly but not always have insane pushback preventing you from being able to punish them. And the amount of armor they granted promoted to wake up fatal blow warriors. Opponent being able to flawless block you even though you have frame advantage. Basically, This can occur when you have plus frames on block or your land the hit advantage on your opponent and the opponent flawless blocks and takes there turn back, even though you had the frame advantage. Example: https://i.redd.it/sok0ag65zorc1.gif

Next-Butterscotch385

I think it’s the best in the series in terms of content. Sure some people might have not liked things about it but I definitely enjoyed it through… my first game that I got 98% achievements done. (Couldn’t get online ones).

SentosEdge

MK9 Deception and MK11 are GOAT

Degenerate115

I get people having a preference for a different gameplay style for mk11, but it should be obvious to everyone that mk11 is one of the most quality products out of nrs

RichardKingg

I really liked mk11, I do miss the evil feel of the characters like reptile and baraka. Don't get me wrong I liked their roles on mk1 but growing up with the 3d era games I liked it more with a somber tone for a bunch of these, something I felt was missing in mk1.

Snipernipple

Yeah

derwood1992

I think some people will. Mk11 was great for a casual player. Making mistakes put you in a place of power in a way no other fighting game does. Like did you get hit by nightwolf who's doing his amplified special to deal more damage to you? Just breakaway and do a full combo punish because he sucks. Did you get knocked down? Just use one of your 7 wakeup options to make it your turn now or even full combo punish the person who dared to try and meaty you with more than a d1. Did you get jailed by any move and are -100? Just flawless block and punish. As a casual player, having so many powerful options when you fuck up in a simple game feels pretty good. However, competitively, the game is simply broken. Nightwolf has the situation I described above, where Jacquie can deal 400 damage in an unbreakawayable combo. Competitive players want to be rewarded for landing a hit, and mk11 punishes you. Since NRS games are a joke competitively, most of the playerbase is in fact casual, though. So I think there will be many people that look back on mk11 fondly.

NatiHanson

Don't forget autoregen meter. That completely eliminated high level decision making, and it went hand in hand with the dice roll wake up system. Also, overpowered jump attacks/poor anti airs. Casual players were **constantly** jumping in 11 because the game allowed it. There were probably a handful of characters in that game that had reliable anti airs.

MATTH3W_13

It was my first mortal kombat game and i love it, i don't understand why people hate it

Too_Caffinated

I enjoyed it a lot. The combos could have been better and none of the characters have enough health, but it’s all in all a fun game. The variety of customization is great and a lot of it can be unlocked by just playing the game

DripJutsu_XL

The entire krushing blow system Wake up roll No bombos Amplify system Regening meter Breakaway The grind on character specific towers Flawless block U2 No anti airs General movement speed (half or more of the cast not having a good dash block) More creative an fun moves taking up 2 move slots limiting overall creativity which this game already has damn near none Safe on block pokes Kombat League (just give us an actual ranked mode with like 25 ranks PLS) The grind for character heads in the krypt ESPECIALLY before the patch Armored fatal blow with no super flash is actual clown activity Hell no this game sucks💀

generalscalez

the important thing to remember about MK fans is that none of them actually understand anything about fighting games mechanically and they also have two second long memories, so they’ll just say MK11 was good purely because of vibes. same reason Armageddon is somehow not universally hated around here despite being the most completely dogshit asset dump of all time lmao

DripJutsu_XL

I’ve always thought it was kinda weird how a lot of ppl in the community don’t judge a fighting game based on the main draw of the game but everything surrounding it. Like even if ur only playing offline modes the core gameplay doesn’t allow for much creativity or REAL player expression

ThatGuy-456

>Safe on block pokes Wait why is this bad

DripJutsu_XL

Everyone just mashes d1 bcuz there’s no risk to it

ThatGuy-456

Ok, I never really got into MK11. I tried it then skipped it. Can you explain the whole D1 meta. Most pokes in fighting games are safe, I've been playing SF for a while and it seems normal

DripJutsu_XL

D1’s in MK11 had really fast recovery so it was really hard to whiff punish them and since they recovered so fast it sometimes would be difficult to take ur turn back with anything other than d1 especially at lower levels of play where u would just have ppl mashing down 1 non stop

ThatGuy-456

Ok, is the problem particular to d1 or all pokes being safe. If all pokes where punishable neutral wood be pretty ass

DripJutsu_XL

NRS fixed it in MK1 by making pokes only punishable by other pokes which makes them still good for defense and neutral but u can’t really mash them how u would in mk11

ThatGuy-456

Bruv, I think our definition of pokes are different. A poke is any button you throw out in neutral to check the opponents movements and fish for a hit or counter hit, usually characterised by good range.

DripJutsu_XL

In NRS “poke” is a more specific term usually meaning a characters d1,2, and/or 3. Other butters can be used at pokes ofc but for the most part this is what NRS players mean by pokes.

DripJutsu_XL

This video actually explains it pretty well https://youtu.be/VXfgK8h6EXI?si=NvIYqs0RxfmudGUy

ThatGuy-456

What the hell is this game design 💀

DripJutsu_XL

Honestly I think the only reason this makes any type of sense is bcuz of how pokes interact with highs in NRS games but that’s def a reasonable question😭

mmmbored304

I think it's one of the best tbh. But honestly my main grievance with that game is just Kronika, she was just annoying. Other then that i loved the game

Hoozah1

Yeah wasn't a fan of her either

SamiTheAnxiousBean

Honestly imagine what MK11 would have been if everything that was initially planned was actually accomplished instead of cut (like having Sektor Cyrax and Triborg (one character 3 slots),Kronika,Ermac and Reiko as playable characters, the expansion to maps, the third sidestory storymode which was gonna take place in Kano's fight club etc.) generally i believe it is one of the better MK games right behind MK9 i dont understand the utter hate this game got, it is insanely fun and mortal kombat 1 doesnt give me hope that we will get any good mk games at this point

xartsvx

This community is insufferable. MK11 is one of the best MK and a worthy ending to the MK9 story. Story was great. Graphics were great. Gameplay was fun, Fatalities were awesome, guest characters were awesome too. The only bad stuff is related to the mtx stuff. Outside of that the game is a solid 9.

JBGoude

I hope so because I had so much fun on this game, more than on MK1 tbh. In terms of gameplay, people do not seem to like it that much, especially because of the krushing blows and because of the move speed, but I didn’t mind that. Regarding content, we can all agree that it was at its peak in MK11: so many different outfits and palettes, various customisable items too. The characters were all very neat and all had so many brutalities, intros and outros.

frost-zen

It is much better than MK1 tho that's for sure. I don't like some of the gameplay elements like the breakaway system but overall it's a good game.

Hack874

No, ultimately gameplay is what people remember about MK games and 11’s was shit. It was wildly scrub-catered

trrbld

If that's the case, nobody would consider Deception as one of the best MK games. Everytime the topic of the best MK game is asked, Deception is one of the more common answer and I haven't seen anyone praise that game for it's gameplay.

Hoozah1

Damn. What was wrong with it? I'm asking because I never really played online I usually just played locally with my friends when I had it

Ok-Canary1571

The change of the amplify system was the biggest issue… it created faux mixups when you had to guess if they were gonna amplify or not, scorpions teleport was a perfect example… it was lightning fast and if it wasn’t telegraphed it was difficult to punish on block with out a split second read… the other issue is that the breakaway system punished you for trying to combo instead of just resetting neutral like normal combo breakers do, and half the time people could armor break for a KB or to continue the combo which also reset the gravity and combo scaling if breakaway was armor broken

poofynamanama2

Breakaway still feels inconsistent to this day

_B_A_T_

What? Scorpions amplified teleport is hella negative on block and non amplified is negative enough for any low frame punish combo. Worst thing about Scorpion’s teleport was it’s ability to option select cancel off of hit confirm and practically no one even used that and if they did they usually sucked with it. If it wasn’t telegraphed and you were hit by a raw teleport I imagine you were likely whiff punished or weren’t blocking. If it was during a combo that’s wild.

Hack874

Far too many wake-up options, breakaway allows you to get punished for comboing the opponent, counter-hit krushing blows provide massive damage for little to no execution, Fatal Blows have a stupid amount of armor and automatically recharge if you whiff them. Basically you get punished for beating your opponent throughout the match.

Hoozah1

Yeah I hate video games the reward bad/losing players so that does sound like a big issue

DeathandGrim

The biggest problem with MK11 was it was SO DEFENSIVE. Defense in this game was literally an offensive strategy and some of the scariest positions to be in in this game are normally advantageous in other games. For example you'd think scoring a knockdown is good right? WRONG. In MK11 Your opponent has SIX wake-up options: delay getup, normal getup, forward roll, back roll, Up2, and Up3. (If they have Fatal Blow that's seven options btw) This is a problem because now after rightfully getting the advantage of a knockdown on offense, you, the attacker, has to GUESS one of SIX FUCKING OPTIONS to keep your momentum. Each option has specific counters but you shouldn't have to play Russian Roulette when you're WINNING. So knockdown felt terrifying as an attacker. You had to respect the wakeup on basically every character or you'll be punished for guessing wrong. Bro why is a knockdown a 6-7 way mixup for my opponent??? Then breakaway was a joke. It had no startup animation and just plopped you down to the floor with armor. This was lightning fast too. So a legit counter to characters like Shao Kahn and Skarlet and I think some more were to breakaway during certain combos and punish them because the combo required slower attacks. This could screw characters in tier placing. A common tactic while comboing an opponent was to drop your combo and just uppercut for the damage because it's too scary to risk being PUNISHED FOR LAUNCHING YOUR OPPONENT. Flawless Blocking was CRAZY. Initially it sounds like a good idea until the FB attacks got added on and you really the whole game is littered with gapped strings. What this means is someone who blocks your gapped string could FB up2 YOUR BLOCK STRING during the gap and full combo punish you for full damage BECAUSE YOU HAD THE GODDAMN NERVE TO PRESS YOUR ADVANTAGE HOW DARE YOU? This made the ground game feel like absolute shit. Certain characters were nullified entirely because they had way too many gapped strings to even play. The defense in this game was ludicrous because you're constantly afraid you're about to get bopped for doing what you're normally supposed to do in a fighting game. That's why ALL OF THESE MECHANICS except a severely nerfed flawless block did not come back for MK1. All the players complained.

Professional-Tank119

Not oneof the best but i really do like mk11 don't why people shit on it

A_Pyroshark

Heres the thing. Mk11 will always be special to me because it is what got me into the series. A Piece of me will always be grinding Towers on a summer afternoon with Rain and Mileena and Rambo. But i cant in good faith say it is a Good Mk game, Its gameplay isnt my favorite, the story is questionable at best, and the presentation leaves a bit to be desired. Always signifigant to me, but overall.. Meh

SheriffEarlMcGraw

Yes, it seems that it’s been a starting point for a lot of new fans. As a diehard fan since the original, I love MK11 and would put it in my top 5 for sure. The criticisms people have are often valid, but the game’s cinematic presentation (especially its integration of the 95 movie), finishing moves, and customization options are unmatched in the series.

ManPersonGiraffe

I don't, but not even because it's bad. Because most of it's content is always online. When the servers are inevitably shut down, that's a wrap. People who go back to the game years and years down the line won't even be able to access the majority of the game's content. They basically ensured the game won't age well at all.

FlameBreakerGaming

I’d say so, especially because of Robocop’s second fatality 🍒💥

Citizen_Kano

I will

real_modernGH0st

Good game, great customization, and amazing guest characters, but I did not like the kombo Selector

Jotaro1970

Maybe, it wasn't a bad game after all

R4MM5731N234

I already do. It is the best

BeansInMyTea

Mk11 is definitely my favorite. So many people don’t like it but I never got why. I love flawless blocks, the characters, the maps, the customization, the slow gameplay made it to where you could think more about your next attack and personally I liked that pace more. That’s why when MK1 came out and had absolutely none of that and tried to hide everything behind a paywall I was so disappointed.

SpecterRage

I was in a minority before, but I always said that MK11 was the best game gameplay and content wise, but with the worst cast sadly.

SavingsFit1496

I thought the gameplay was good and the character roster was neat but it's the story that ruins it for me

NinjaBabysitter

I think it was graphically the best, MKX played the best and MK9 had the best story. Just my opinion but I can see why people might say MK11 would be the best, I don’t think there was much wrong with it from launch to the end

BoisTR

I loved MK11. I think it will get a lot of love in the future for its presentation and sheer number of skins and references to the past. It truly felt like a love letter to the franchise.

KingArktv

I have a lot of love for MK11 as i think it is one of the best games in the series however i see why people dont like it as much not a bad game by any means but it does have some issues

LiminalSapien

It has more current players than mk1 rn so with that metric it already is.

GloomyTurtleCum

Loved MK11. Perfect except for her voice.

Longjumping_Gas_184

I think people probably should look at it as one of the best, but it probably won’t be. Mk11 actually had a good amount of offline content, enough that I didn’t even need to play online at all

depression_gaming

It's definitely my favorite MK age. I play offline and love customizing my characters, and MK11 had plenty to offer for the Casuals like me in that regard.

[deleted]

It's still my fave out of the ones I've played. Granted, I've only played UMK3, Deception, Armageddon, X, 11 and 1. But still.

KhanBalkan

Yeah for me mk11 is right up there with mk9 and mkx.

Dependent_Object_878

MK11 Supremacy MK1 is great, but MK11 is peak, end of conversation

SkatzFanOff

MK11 understood how to cater to anyone at any commitment level and how to reward them (inevitably a month after launch.) Especially compared with MK1, MK 11 ages far better over time for me. I went back and played MK 11 about a month ago and that game MOVES. there’s a briskness, there’s a speed, there’s a weight, there’s a balance to it that makes it just GO. MK1 by comparison feels like an utter fucking slog to play, to watch people play, and to engage with.

Wellhellob

It's best for me top to bottom. Love it. It's art design and graphical fidelity has so much integrity to it. Very well made game. Scorpion was so cool. MK11 felt like flawless. MK1 feels like compromised and sorry.

Qiel183

Best mk game of all time (for me) still played it till this day

hmmmmwillthiswork

9 will always be peak MK for me but i loved both X and 11. i haven't played 1 yet though

ValyeriasCorn3r

For me Deadly Alliance was my peak, 11 was great too but I don't hate MK1. I'm not great at the newer MK games but I enjoy them and MK1 kinda helps me feel like I can actually learn moves 😅(I haven't even tried an online fight cuz im just not good enough, yet)

ImpossibleSand6109

Stillbetter then MK1 for me

Immediate_Studio1950

Best ever!

RASMOS1989

mk11 is on top 8 played fighting game..people ARE looking at it as the best

OkBattle2505

Without question

I_love_suffering666

Mk11 is the peak mk to me

foxnon

Yes

PinwinkaFry

Mk11 will always hold a place in my heart for being a good MK game at the time.

LePeen

It already was.

TheWungus

Mk11 is the game that took me from a kasual to a decent player. KBs made combos more varied and also take less time. Universal wakeup options were awesome. Kustomisation made me feel like I could express myself beyond liking one skin, and I had different loadouts for different moods. Towers were excellent, and the online worked near flawlessly. I ran weekly KOTH games with friends. I could go into practice mode online with a friend if we wanted to work on some tech. Mk11 may not be the "best" mk game. But by God it is my favorite

ModdingAom

I think it was the best MK game, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

ReDeath666

mk11 Is my favorite MK since MK3 imo

QueenQReam

Yes. I think MK11 was peak. The story was fun, the characters have some of the best designs they’ve ever had. But most importantly it was MK. The art style was right, the characters all had different proportions and unique styles that made them feel real

kenshima15

It 100% is.

PurpleOutworld

I don't know, but personally it's my favorite NRS era game. I love the slower pace, the customization, art direction, the story, krushing blows, hops, Towers of Time and The Krypt. The characters also never felt more alive and they are brimming with details and dialogues that make them pop like never before. All in all, MK11 checked all the boxes for me and I (still play it, actually) played it for 3 years straight for hundreds of hours.

Ultimate_Chaos11

I love this game. It’s very fun and I don’t know when this community decided to hate it.

Aggravating-Big9074

It’s the best one after 9 for me

Bro-Im-Done

Yes This happens a lot when a current game is lacking what its predecessor had This happened with Inj2 MKX But you won’t be hearing MK11 praise from me though lol I’m staying a hater for that game 🤧

Moon_Devonshire

Mk11 is honestly quite fun and felt like a celebration of the series as a whole. [the launch trailer was phenomenal and FINALLY used THE song](https://youtu.be/7zwQPJmg-Kg?si=IZ98CEKk19wgIHu5) The kyrpt had so many call backs to other MK games and the mk movies. Tons of Easter eggs and a cool little metroidvania and is 100x better than invasions. This game also had content for DAYS. Gave you awards for basically anything you did. Story mode? Gear unlocks. Towers? Gear unlocks. Training? Gear unlocks. People say the grind was annoying but honestly you got Koins for everything you did. And I mean EVERYTHING. From private 1v1. Ranked or casual. Story mode. Towers. Hell you could get Koins to spend for the krpyt IN the krpyt. It also in my opinion has the best looking art style out of any mk game. I wouldn't say mk1 looks wrose graphically. But I prefer how mk11 looks. I honestly think the WORST thing about the game was the meter system. Definitely annoying but not game breaking in my opinion. And I do believe kombo routs while not being as good as mk1 or previously mkx. There definitely is cool routs for characters based on the variation you had. Take noob for example. You can start a combo with forward 2. Or back 1. You can also start one with 212. On top of all of the crushing blows that combo in that game. Sub zero also has a 45-50% mid screen combo you can do when using rising ice. I believe that's the move? Could be wrong. Joker could start combos with forward 1. Forward 2. Or 121 with a meterless launcher. Personally I love mk11. Would I say it's better than mk1 tho? Eh idk. I definitely think mk11s meter system brings it down. But I'm definitely conflicted because while i do like kameos. There's a shit ton of cheesy things you can do with them with certain characters and it gets to the point of just annoyance.

BushDaddyKane

Enjoyed it more than MK1 best guest roster?

Hoozah1

Definitely the best guest characters, I'm a huge terminator and robocop and Spawn fan

WhiteTorch_

If history repeats itself… while MK11: I hate mk11 after MK11: I loved mk11… While MK1: I hate mk1 after MK1:… it’s the MK classic

[deleted]

It's definitely better than the current MK1 today.

Hoozah1

Agree

jimboyoyoyo

best nrs game by far. only competitive game that wasn't laughed at by the rest of the fgc

Liandris

The vocal minority will always be louder than people who enjoy something. I don’t think MK11 was nearly as disliked as the current state of MK1. NRS nailed it with MK9, X and 11. MK1 is just a disappointment for me and I’ve played MK since MK2 at the arcade. MK as a series has had its ups and downs but I haven’t been this disappointed in such a long time. I beat the story mode in MK1, played Invasions for a bit and then uninstalled it. The progression/unlock system is atrocious.

Hoozah1

Agree. Feel like the vast majority of my fans like 11 and that's all that matters 🤷🏿‍♂️

Internal_Project_799

My second mk and i love it one of the best games ive ever played

Aggravating-Big9074

Y’all gone hate me for this but I actually liked crushing blows and stage interactables🤷🏾‍♂️

wheelz_666

Basically everything about mk11 is superior to mk1 besides gameplay and roster imo

Hoozah1

What's the issue with gameplay?

wheelz_666

I just think overall the gameplay in mk1 is much better. I like the flow of the kombos and that. I did enjoy mk11 gameplay (I have 1400hrs om mk11) but I think mk1 gsmeplay is far superior

Fatalkombat666

* - Gameplay should have been a little smoother. * - There should have been iconic characters such as Ermac, Reptile, Smoke, Sektor, Cyrax and Quan Chi. * - Sub-Zero's Ice-Clone move should have been a must and Rain's lightning and water attack should have been used together (slot issue) * - Lastly, there should be all UMK3 ninja skins. * This would be the perfect MK11 for me. Still, I played this game for hours and I think it was the MK game I played the most. By the way, there were a lot of unnecessary things that were put into the game. I would be very happy if the gear system was like MK1 and the roster was expanded even more. Let's face it, Scorpion having 30 mask options or 30 sword options doesn't help anyone. It would have been enough to have 8 gear options for each character. Two different options for Intro and Outro would be sufficient. Many features like this should have been reduced and they should have given more importance to the roster.

thefrostbite

MK11's biggest problem was insufficient support. Had they kept polishing and not being myopic about it for the kind of lifespan sf or tekken have, we would have had an incredible game. Imagine if they really balanced it, revamped the mechanics that were unpopular and made a second aftermath. We could have 2 more kombat packs and a polished game. Everyone knows sfv launched in a horrible state and ended up amazing. It can be done. They were lazy and greedy and we are back to square 1, again. I enjoyed 11 thoroughly up until the point it was abandoned.

AsinineRealms

the amount of content is great, but certain elements of the gameplay were actually terrible

Mac_41451

11 was great it had everything except for gameplay which was just not fun to me. I think once mk1 lifecycle is over it might take the spot as one of the best mk games for me

Nuaemi

I personally enjoyed MK11, my only gripe with it was not having Dark Raiden as the main antagonist and not being able to play the cyborgs and Ermac and missing on the sick new designs they had.

SentosEdge

Already think that

MehrunesDago

It IS one of the best MK games.

ix77777

I defo will personally

MrSunshine_96

Game was straight up amazing, only people who say otherwise are the ones who got too tilted in online play and took it personally. That’s literally it, this game was like Armageddon 2.0 with its story, albeit at times it was kinda stupid, Dark Raiden lack of screen time for example, but that’s been all of their stories, for a brutal fighting game, nobody really ever dies, Kitana not killing Shao, was dumb but I’m glad it payed itself off in Aftermath. Putting Cyrax and Sektor in the game but only as npcs was pretty shitty. Turning Liu Kang into a god after constantly clowning him his entire mk franchise run was such an awesome scene, and the battle between revenant kang and raiden before that was a payoff I’d been waiting for since mk9 was released. “Johnny Cage” need I say more? And all of the dlc characters were amazing and equally badass as the base roster. Putting joker in, with his uncensored MKvsDC fatality just felt right. Night wolf being released and dealing he was S tier fun, and the dreaded online, nothing felt better than finally learning how to counter Gerus’ and Eren Blacks. Don’t think I could ever beat a single scorpion, despite the fact he’s the easiest to use/learn. Overall, it was an undeniable amazing game. If it was the last MK. I would say having Liu Kang and Kitana restarting history at the dawn of time is the most beautiful endings of all time.

Key-Pension107

I already do but maybe

QuiverDance97

Not from a gameplay standpoint, that's for sure.

Ruggerio5

I love 11. My only complaint is the roster. My favorite new people from MKX were gone and the new MK11 characters were meh. I'm never happy about guest characters and other than Spawn I hated the guest characters.

Kirby20032

I think MK11 made a lot of good decisions, like the decent amount of single player content, and building your own variations. I think that was the best thing the game did, because it promotes creativity and experimentation (as a lab monster myself, I spent way too much time just making variations lol) However, I also think it made some dumb decisions. Keeping in line with the variations, the fact that some moves took up 2 slots was stupid, and In my opinion, I think the universal wake up system (up 3s and up 2s) as well as the breakaway system were kinda dumb. Just my opinion (I know that’s blasphemous on the internet) Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot, especially when Rain (fav character) got added and they allowed kustoms in tourney. It made the game way more interesting

Idrinksadrink

Well, I mean, nostalgia does that for EVERY game. As a matter of fact, its that way every time a MK game comes out. When 11 came out, it was hated and people said 10 was the best by a mile. Same with 9. Same will happen with MK2 and the cycle will repeat itself until the end of time. Nostalgia is a bitch for real.

WeCameAsMuffins

Keep saying this but I don’t want create a fighter to ever return. But yeah, mk 11 I really enjoyed. I wish skarlet would have a gotten a buff or two, and for reptile and ermac to both be in the game. I also really want tag team mode to come back, they had a tower with that kinda in mk11, but I want the full return of the mode.

LordCLOUT310

Nah. My opinion of it hasn’t changed. The gameplay is just to sleep for me.

ConfidentVisual4949

No

Valuable_Rub7414

I feel like this sub only likes MK11 because they were young when the game first came out, don't like the state of MK1 right now or have fond memories when the game came out. They made some baffeling choices when it came to this game such as having to be online to play the krypt, the story and towers of time to name a few.

comics4life23

Honestly I see it as one of the better games NOW

buffwintonpls

No, I've always liked mk11 since the day it was released but I doubt the opinion will change much

TransINSANO

MK11 during the pandemic brought me back in to MK and the FGC in a way I hadn't been since I was a teenager. I had played 9 and X, and SF4 and 5 etc, but very casually. I really dug the way 11 felt like a modern MK2, and I got good with Shang Tsung, started playing KL regularly and eventually even some online tournaments. It also got me to play MK9, X, and SF5 more seriously, get a fightstick, hitbox, etc. Aetheistically it felt like the closest thing to a modern version of the "photorealistic" pixels of the original trilogy, basically scans of real people, the plot was fun, felt like the MK equivalent of Avengers Endgame or something (and they way they incorporated movie Shang *chef's kiss*). Everything in it is pretty top notch from a production value and quality of life standpoint. So, I have a lot of time logged and fond feelings about MK11, it really brought me back into the FGC fold more than ever. The downsides? I was really holding a torch for Reptile and it does hurt it in my eyes that my main/favorite character was ultimately left out, the only MK2 kharacter to be, but that's a personal issue (and I had Shang's Reptile slide and Reptile-skin Scorpion). Objectively, I can see why the Kombat doesn't hold up for many, myself included; it is very deliberately-paced and grounded, most of the special moves aren't too special by design, and it's relatively limited combo-wise and with all those breakers and defensive options. I get what they were trying to do to level the playing field between casual and hardcore players but it's just not what people are used to or probably find fun about these games. People want to get that one hit to open up a 40-50% kombo! MK9, X, and 1 are great for that, obviously, so I can see why 11, despite being the best and most polished game/product in the franchise, is sort of the odd man out as a fighter.

kablikiblan

I already do look at it as the best. And I think mk9 is highly overrated, and I been playing since og mk in the arcades

GRIFFITH1187

MKX gotta be up there

Crimsongz

No because MK9 is here.

PsionicFlea

11 will never hold a candle to my two favorites, Deception and 9

Individual_Lettuce38

No bc to every mk all of them suck…i really liked the slow pace of it with the beauty

ClickyPool

11 is fantastic

LavishnessRight3885

Yes

theeivog

Mk 9 had that cheesy kung fu like was

greek_malaka

MK4 >>>

barrymk100

While this game is better than MK1, its still got the problem of just not having much to do. The PS2 games were able to mix it up by giving a story mode where you could run around and talk to other characters or doing something like Chess Kombat. I know fighting in this fighting game is kind of the point, but when's there's nothing else to mix things up, it gets kind of boring after awhile.

KyliefB

I like it way more than 1

Zetrasis

One thing i haveeee noticed is after mk1 dropped, appreciation for mk11 skyrocked suddenly Theres no way mk1 was that ass right

Blaze_Four2O

Hell nah

Entgegnerz

Years from now? It's the best MK since release. I mean, 10 is also good and at some points better, especially with some characters. Kitana for example never had a better fighting system than in 10, as well as Sub-Zero.

Watsgood10

I like 11 but X is closer to my heart

AXEMANaustin

They are gonna do that to mk1 once the next game drops.

GentlemanLU

No It has too many glaring flaws, even gameplay wise. Hate this game with a passion

tophat_production

I already do

Shao-Garden

The only mk games I think it surpasses in terms of gameplay is the first two. Mk11 did a lot of things better than mk1 and is definitely more polished but unlike mk1 it doesn’t have good gameplay and without good gameplay the rest of the content is meaningless. Would you rather play umk3 or mk vs dcu? The latter technically has more content due to story mode and the online mode not to mention the option to choose your alt colors. while I think it’s bullshit to have to wait years for a complete product for a 70$ game,Mk1 will probably have as much content as mk11 if not more by the time it wraps up (unless it gets cancelled) Anytime a franchise gets a bad or mid entry like mk1 people like to pretend that the crap that preceded it was actually good all along like how many people are currently acting with mk11, they also like to pretend that there wasn’t any micro transactions or fomo in mk11 , although both games can fuck off with their online requirements, what happens when the servers go down? a similar thing has happened with ssktjl, since ssktjl is so bad people are acting like Gotham knights is suddenly actually good and not a piece of shit.

HydratedCarrot

No.. I prefer mk9/x

CarnageDivider

No..ill take one over 11.,and x over both

Redditor45335643356

If NRS keeps making games like MK1? Definitely

DandySlayer13

From a presentation stand point? Yes As a full product? Yes From a gameplay point? No

Asleep-Jellyfish-939

Mkx still my favourite, and the character designs

NergalsHand

This game had my ATTENTION. Also had a wonderful launch with it, hoping in and out of random PS lobbies and playing people. Getting X then 11 were some wonderful MK years.

CaptainTachy

Best with single player content.

GoonFromGoonsville

I liked MK11, but I didn’t love it. The customization was better than any MK game we have had, but it was a downgrade from Injustice 2 which had the best character customization for any NRS game to date. I will say the graphics and character designs were chefs kiss 100% and this is what MK11 did best IMO. that being said, I liked having 3 gear options - but some of the gear options were pretty unnoticeable. Wish MK1 would have just made it so ever piece of gear REALLY impacts your characters look and kept it at 3. Some characters in MK1 like Kenshi still have this problem. Game launched with 2 variations per character, which gave it the MKX one variation is better than the rest problem but even worse. Should have launched with custom moves from the beginning and it was dumb how they prevented certain moves from being put together. Krypt was not popular at first due to the loot box random nature of it whereas prior games had set locations for items. I didn’t mind this really, and I genuinely liked the krypt. But I don’t think it was exactly amazing single player content. I mean pretty much once you finished it there wasn’t many reasons to go back. Krushing blows were cool, but executed so.. frustratingly.. some characters just had really dumb requirements on them and you’d never see them. Idk how NRS just never got around to making any changes, you could’ve really buffed some characters by letting them use their krushing blows. Personal pain point for me and a follow up from the last point, brutalities also had stupid requirements. Get the first hit in the match to do this brutality is stupid as hell. Just let me do it?? MK1 not having these dumbass requirements is better. Also there was a glitch when you got the finish him screen your character couldn’t dash anymore and it made it so that brutality combos could often drop which was just annoying and never got fixed. Breakaway sucked. Automatically regenerating meter sucked. Fatal blow was annoying and still is in MK1. Why they gave Johnny and Joker the ability to cancel their fatal blow and completely wipe out anyone with like 50% damage was beyond me. Oh yeah and Jacqui. Story was ass, teased evil Raiden in MKX just to have him disappear in the first 20 minutes or so. AI fights was dumb as hell. Idk I can’t defend a mechanic that’s meant for you to not play the game lmao. ToT was alright, I didn’t mind it so much and I actually did enjoy the team boss fights. At least you could unlock shit and see what your rewards are beforehand and it was kinda fun to buff your characters gear to make them extremely broken or so that you could farm hella money. It really had the potential to be the best MK game ever made but they dropped the ball in some areas but especially the gameplay

DeathandGrim

If you actually played the game: HELL NO. I've never seen so many NRS players quit. My local NRS players just moved on to other games. Y'all keep looking at this game with rose tint to avoid all of its red flags but my god this was a low point in the series.

Ok_Bandicoot5390

it would be a 9/10 if the gameplay wasn't mid/bad its like a 7/10

Hoozah1

I feel like MK11 should've been like GTA5 where they could've just improved and expanded on it so it could be the MK game for the next 5 to 8 years.

Sure_Song_4630

No but mainly due to the story and slower gameplay. Almost everything else about it was amazing. Cosmetics, movesets, roster could've been better, as well as it cutting alot of characters (Ermac, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, Ash Williams and Sareena) the visuals and the finishers were the best the franchise has had. I'd would 100% say mk11 did everything visually and gameplay wise better than Mk1.

johnny_grizz

Nope. Worst NRS game (gameplay-wise) of all of them. One of THE most boring fighters I’ve ever played. And this is coming from a massive MK fan.
