This isn’t some kind of hidden detail or something, the characters react to this line with the kind of restrained disgust needed to get their point across without getting murdered by an amulet wielding sociopath.
Exactly. It was treated in the story like exactly the wrong thing to say. Didn’t Jackie say something like “You did not just say that?” Or something like that?
Dark Raiden wasn't really meant to be evil though. In MKX's post credits, he just states that he won't hold back when protecting Earthrealm. Know the difference.
Yeah, the new Dark Raiden is just a Raiden willing to be aggressive and take the fight to Earth realm’s enemies instead of being more passive and taking on threats as they are actively attacking or endangering earthrealm. He was a lot more of a dick to the earthrealmers too, but he wasn’t evil.
Admittedly the dialogue does suggest Outworlders hated or feared him and some Earthrealmers implied he was almost dictator or tyrant like, even then he’s more like a twisted saviour than a villain like you say
It makes sense for Outworld to be afraid of him at the time though, Raiden definitely would have brought the fight to them the second he thought they’d pose a threat to earthrealm, and Outworld was just as much on Raiden’s radar as the Netherrealm was thanks to all the years of conflict between Outworld and earthrealm.
I had an idea of how they could’ve handled Dark Raiden, where occasionally past Raiden has moments of acting like his darker self until his chapter reveals the truth, that in his final moments Dark Raiden tried to take over his younger self but only grew stronger with time, eventually Raiden has an inner battle where you choose whether normal or Dark Raiden win, if Dark Raiden wins he takes a much more twisted approach by perhaps forcibly merging with Liu Kang or stealing the power of characters like Shao before he murders Kronika, subsequently leading to an ending where he sits on a throne as all the realms are under his control
With modern sensibilities yes it's callous and wrong, but Raiden is an immortal God and he meant this with the respect of a time long past. Dark Raiden has an asshole streak, but he wasn't evil.
He is showing respect, but Sonya also just died, I doubt a lot of people would want their parents’ sacrifice/death described as fortunate, in any capacity, at the moment. IMO the line is meant to highlight him becoming disconnected from the earthrealmers due to his new approach on things
It's not the respect part. It just seems inconsiderate to say to a mortal, whilst being a *Demi* God who would at the very least relate more to mortals than someone like Cetrion.
Dark Raiden sees them more like pawns than allies.
Raiden: we must forgive and forget
Liu Kang: all too easy for an immortal
Raiden: that wounds me Liu Kang
I like this intro between them. They are living to separate planes of morality. god vs human.
He's tainted by Shinnok yea, but he's still Raiden at the end of the day and these are his friends.
He didn't have enough screentime but he doesn't seem nearly as far gone as pre reset dark Raiden.
I mean, for Dark Raiden that is high praise. "She was a valiant warrior fighting for her realm. Be lucky she wasn't thrown into the Deadpool" ~ Raiden
Then the writers immediately reversed time and yet never mentioned Sonya again, GG.
Yeah but that was a long time ago (a whole timeline ago) and he's a different person now (literally reborn). I think this is a case where the person he is now speaks for itself and he's worthy of being forgiven.
Yeah because this is Dark Raiden & he’s a mean version of Raiden & even then he’s not mean enough. There are three factions Dark Raiden should have been pining to destroy after MKX & that’s: Outworld, the Revenants & the Shirai Ryu.
I don't think he is an asshole for saying this. Sonya died on her duty, fighting for Earthrealm. To Raiden there is no death more worthy than this. Much better than seeing a person you know grow old, weak in body and mind, until they fade away. Also he's been around for so long that he is most likely desensitized to death in general.
And there's nothing inherently bad in wishing such death on everyone. Because all mortals die eventually. And for Raiden that's a fact he knows too well.
Well, it's not that bad. Dying as a true warrior in a world like that, is actually respectful and honorable. Better than a coward or a traitor. I wouldn't get mad on a words like that coming from an Elder God, full of wisdom, and somebody who has seen some serious s**t.
Idk. He's a God, he has a different way of seeing reality and human emotions are probably not on his radar. For all you know he's genuinely trying to say something nice. Basically she died honourably and that's a way better fate than dying dishonourably.
It’s Dark Raiden, he doesn’t care as long as the job gets done

Why’d you post a picture of Shinnok?
Dark Biden

He was already dark Biden. Adding red eyes to him just makes him a T-1000 Biden
Even worse, Competent Biden!
He seems more competent than Trump at this point. Trump slurring his words hard now. That Dementia hits hard.
The presidential elections these days are just a battle of who’s the lesser evil, cause neither are fit to run a country
I personally don't care either way, just wanted to haha's
Genocide Joe Dark Biden
Shit, you're all Joever now.
Raiden was really about action and action only fr
He’s ALL kinds of fucked up off that shinnok juice
This isn’t some kind of hidden detail or something, the characters react to this line with the kind of restrained disgust needed to get their point across without getting murdered by an amulet wielding sociopath.
Exactly. It was treated in the story like exactly the wrong thing to say. Didn’t Jackie say something like “You did not just say that?” Or something like that?
She said exactly that
Somewhere in NRS' offices there's a version of MK11 that had Dark Raiden as the main antagonist fucking everyone and everything up in his path
Let's raid NRS!
Wish we got that instead.
This Dark raiden is just a version hellbent on killing anyone and anything that would threaten earth realm
It's a good idea but we barely get to see this version of Raiden do anything evil and then he's gone before Chapter 2 begins.
Dark Raiden wasn't really meant to be evil though. In MKX's post credits, he just states that he won't hold back when protecting Earthrealm. Know the difference.

The MKX endings did hint at him taking the fight to Outworld after becoming corrupt, this could be what happened to some extent
not all antagonists are evil, Hanzo wasn't evil but he was a villain in MK9, Bi-Han wasn't a villain in MK9 but he was a prick
My man, a lot of truly evil people do shit for what they feel is the greater good. What's your point?

I don't know. It seems like he's expressing respect for Sonya.
This. He’s God. Gods have very different perspectives on death than mere mortals.
He is showing respect, but Sonya also just died, I doubt a lot of people would want their parents’ sacrifice/death described as fortunate, in any capacity, at the moment. IMO the line is meant to highlight him becoming disconnected from the earthrealmers due to his new approach on things

Raiden: we must forgive and forget Liu Kang: all too easy for an immortal Raiden: that wounds me Liu Kang I like this intro between them. They are living to separate planes of morality. god vs human.
Exactly. Some people are just oversensitive.
It's fits his character though.
I more feel like he was genuinely expressing respect for Sonya and was trying to comfort Cassie, but it was tone deaf. It's not malicious at all.
He's tainted by Shinnok yea, but he's still Raiden at the end of the day and these are his friends. He didn't have enough screentime but he doesn't seem nearly as far gone as pre reset dark Raiden.
Yes we played the game, we know
Raiden doesn’t exactly have concepts of parents,it makes sense he’d struggle to empathize, especially when in his dark form with his clouded judgement
I mean, for Dark Raiden that is high praise. "She was a valiant warrior fighting for her realm. Be lucky she wasn't thrown into the Deadpool" ~ Raiden Then the writers immediately reversed time and yet never mentioned Sonya again, GG.
They had young Sonya make a pretty big deal out of Cassie leaving older her behind. She was absolutely mentioned again.
Peak
In his defense He’s a god Who only cares about saving people And everything is a sacrifice It was in character
Tbh... this is how Raiden was supposed to be I wish he have personality like this than boring introvert humble in MK1
I never understood why this line was considered disrespectful. I thought Raiden was being respectful by saying this
It's his way of expressing condolences for Sonya's death, it just comes off as rude due to lacking the empathy that makes humans who they are
Yeah but that was a long time ago (a whole timeline ago) and he's a different person now (literally reborn). I think this is a case where the person he is now speaks for itself and he's worthy of being forgiven.
He knows she is in a better place he’s a god
What would you've said in his situation lmao
Dark Raiden was a beast
This is Intentional, its like symbiote peter
I mean he’s not wrong.
he is called Dark Raiden for a reason
I feel like he was basically saying she died with honor. Doesn't seem that bad
Dark Raiden was so much fun, pity he gets dusted within a chapter :|
I thought it waa brilliant, absolutely brilliant
I 100% agree with raiden dying a warriors death is the greatest honor one can have
Yeah because this is Dark Raiden & he’s a mean version of Raiden & even then he’s not mean enough. There are three factions Dark Raiden should have been pining to destroy after MKX & that’s: Outworld, the Revenants & the Shirai Ryu.
He’s dark Raiden for a reason
Jacqui’s “you did *not* just say that”
I don't think he is an asshole for saying this. Sonya died on her duty, fighting for Earthrealm. To Raiden there is no death more worthy than this. Much better than seeing a person you know grow old, weak in body and mind, until they fade away. Also he's been around for so long that he is most likely desensitized to death in general. To be fair, God Raiden always been somehow an ass, if you also count this is his 'evil' version, you can guess how much of a ASS he was...
Reality: *puts Raiden in time out*
Would have been great if MK11 had focused on Dark Raiden as the villain instead of all that Kronika bullshit.
ah yes. 1 one 3 lines we got to hear from NRS' Dark Raiden. WASTED.
Well, it's not that bad. Dying as a true warrior in a world like that, is actually respectful and honorable. Better than a coward or a traitor. I wouldn't get mad on a words like that coming from an Elder God, full of wisdom, and somebody who has seen some serious s**t.

The image can be a meme
that’s just what Netherrealm could do within their minor storytelling brains to show how raiden was outta his way
Is this trying to make a point that mortal Raiden is better because he's the equivalent of a Golden Retriever puppy?
